Hello and welcome to my channel.
My channel is mainly about books and book related things. The books I have read and the books I want to read.
I read paperbacks, hardbacks and listen to audiobooks. I mainly read historical fiction, contemporary fiction, non-fiction, memoirs. I occasionally read middle grade, YA and fantasy. I am also venturing into classics and modern classics.
Thanks for stopping by
Debra

Everyone's library should be different, but I love that you believe as I do, that the library is unread. I also unhaul/donate books I've read. My taste in reading has become more hardcore, meaning, I'm less tolerant of reading books I'm not enjoying, so I dnf often. Last year I unhauled over 100 books. I really enjoy "shopping" my own shelves and see which books I'm still excited to read. If I'm not excited to read the book, it needs to leave. The year 2020 was the first year I'd read 100 books. I don't like having a deadline from a library, so I don't like getting all of my books from there. When I worked and had younger children I set a goal of one book a month. They were usually from the library. I couldn't afford to buy books. Now I set a goal of 52 books a year and however many books I read in a month is usually the amount I try to unhaul. If I dnf, then the unhaul is higher. I think a target goal is good as long as it isn't obsessed over.
I know this is an older video, but I just found your channel. I really like your classic selection of books for 50 books before 50. Which Thomas Hardy book did you decide to start with?
I have come back to this tag again, to see if I could do it now - but I (a) don't read Margaret Atwood and (b) don't have great answers to many of the questions. However, you did well with it! And mentioning me in a tag has been great. I'll keep you in mind to tag for something interesting in due course. When you're least expecting it. When you're sitting with a coffee, relaxing. Bam!.....:-)
I have a copy of The Lost Bookshop, hopefully I'll get to it soon. Hope you're well and flourishing, all the best, -R
I read a meme once that stated: "I started to go through my unread book pile. I'm on track to finish in 576 years!" 🤣🤣🤣
Lovely to see you back. 2023 is a similar year for me and hence the irregular posting but like you I find that Booktube gets me motivated to. The lost library sounds fab.
As always: take care of you, we will be here! I Belong Here sounds lovely, I love stories that connect with the healing powers of nature.
It's great to have you back - even if it's just in a limited way. I hope you're feeling better. The Lost Bookshop sounds really interesting! I love books about bookstores.
Thank you Art. The Lost Bookshop also has some reference to the Brontës.
It's so nice to see you back on Booktube
So lovely to see you 😊 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Remains of the Day.
Always happy to see a Debra vid appear. I belong here sounds really good. Take care lovely ❤
Lovely to see you again on the screen! The Lost Bookshop sounds delightful! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Remains of the Day; I found it a quiet, but very impactful book 🥰📚
It's truly great to see you on here! Your current reads look really interesting. Take it easy.
Aw thank you so much Roy. Slowly trying to get back to reading. Look after yourself too.
Hi Debra. It's lovely to see you, I was so happy to have a video of yours in my feed this morning. I have also been reading very slowly this summer. I keep changing my mind about what I am in the mood for and therefore have several half read books by my bed that I would really like to finish at some point. A book I read recently. while on holiday in Portugal and really enjoyed , was Horse by Geraldine Brooks. A story set in 2 timeliness about a race horse with themes of racism and relationships. It was fairly heavy going at times, though, so not one to read if you are after a lighter read. It's wasn't really ideal holiday reading 😂. Sending love and best wishes up the country to you ❤️
Hi, Debra! Great to see you! I just read The Hound of the Baskervilles which I really enjoyed. Also, I read my first Agatha Christie, And Then There Were None. Loved it! I just picked up North and South to begin my Victober a little early 😊 Hope to see you in a couple of weeks!
Hi Amy - thanks so much for commenting. I listened to And Then There Were None on audiobook this year. Very atmospheric and a great ending. Hound of the Baskervilles is perfect as Autumn approaches. I have it on my shelves to read one day. I'm planning to do the Sherlock's in order. Hoping to maybe start for Victober. I'm interested to hear what you think of North & South. I enjoyed Cranford last year. I really want to read more Gaskell. Wishing you all the best
Oh my word - how nice to see a video from you pop up on my feed just now!. It's really late night/early morning here in Florida, so I can't linger, but I'll post a longer comment tomorrow when I eventually climb out of my slumber-pit. But for now, take care and kind regards, Brian.
Hi Brian - thank you so much for still being here and for commenting. I hope you sleep well and you and all your family are all keeping well. Take care
@@bookinwithdebra I'm sure you're making the right choice in not committing to a regular and/or frequent resumption of Y/Tube videos. while you're still navigating your way back to feeling fully comfortable within yourself. I had two good reads in September - George Eliot's "Silas Marner' and 'The Fortnight In September' by R C Sherriff (that so reminded me of my own family's holiday in Rhyll in 1967 that I bought an extra copy and sent it to my sister in England. I have Wilkie Collins' 'Woman in White' lined up for Victober - although I've made an early, sneaky start on it and am already 7 chapters into the book. We're doing OK here in Florida - except for the wife who fell recently and broke her wrist (could have been worse) and is recovering from surgery to put everything back together again. Best wishes, Brian.

Thanks for commenting
Heidi by Johanna Spyri; Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain; The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne; Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
Hello - thanks for commenting. Heidi was my favourite book as a child 🙂I plan to re-read it as an adult at some point. Thank you so much for the other suggestions.
Yay you're back! I'm coming back from a short break as well. I have the same edition of Frankenstein and I also used the audiobook. Love all the Frankenstein-related books on your tbr! I've never seen a single movie/tv adaptation of Frankenstein-- very curious to hear which one your favorite is! I've seen in my ads that they're selling a map of all the Frankenstein locations--so tempted but also where would I put it?? I hope you're feeling better and that you'll be up for making more videos xx
Yay! You’re back! Sorry, somehow I missed this with all the travel recently! I was very pleasantly surprised when I read Frankenstein recently; I’m sure I will definitely reread it at some point. I also want to watch the Mary Shelley film too! Happy reading! X 🥰📚
Hello 🥰 I came and then I went again 😂 Frankenstein was an interesting read. I am slowly making my way through the other things I had planned.
Welcome back 🎉
Thanks Katja - I came and then went again 😂Life keeps getting in the way of my reading and video plans. I hope you are keeping well
I'm glad to see you back! Frankenstein is such an interesting book. I think listening to an audio book while reading along in the book is such a great way to tackle classics, especially those you might have a hard time reading. I do that quite a bit. I haven't read or seen any of these books you mentioned except the original book of course. I did come across a Frankenstein book series written by Dean Koontz - The monster is in modern times, and he helps the police solve crimes, or something like that. I read the first one ages ago, and I remember enjoying it, but not enough to keep on in the series.
Hi Art - I really enjoyed pairing the book with the audio version when we read Great Expectations and Cranford. It really enhances my experience and can bring the writing to life. Frankenstein helping the police to solve crimes is a interesting concept. Frankenstein was a really interesting read. Lots to reflect on. I hope you are keeping well.
@@bookinwithdebra Always good to hear from you Debra!
Hello Debra, So wonderful to see you here again! I read Frankenstein last year as a buddy read and it was wonderful! I never thought that book would be for me but it was. I'm being kind to myself as well because of a sluggish few months and health issues. Wishing you a wonderful experience with Jack. She's lovely! Aloha.
Thank you so much. I have missed being more active in the Booktube Community. I am looking forward to kickstarting my reading with Frankenstein. I remember watching your video where you talked about how much you enjoyed reading Frankenstein. Please keep being kind to yourself. Looking after our health is a priority. Take care 💛
Welcome back! I hope this little project get your reading groove back! I've only watched Frankenweenie and all I'll say is that it is not a light watch...
Hello 😀 Oh thank you for the warning re Frankenweenie - I assumed it would be all sweet and heart warming 🤔 I hope you are keeping well 💛
Yeah for a Debra video ❤ Love that you are doing this project, such a fab idea 😊
Thank you so much. I have missed being more active in the Booktube Community. I enjoy making little projects for myself - they are a good distraction from life 😂
So good to see you Debra! Welcome back! So pleased you’ll be joining us for Frankenstein. Love the bingo board. Her list words sounds fascinating. I’ve not heard of the Mary Shelley film! Great plans! ❤
Thank you so much. I have missed being more active in the Booktube Community. Thank you for helping to inspire me. Her Lost Words intrigues me and I am looking forward to re-watching the film once I have finished Frankenstein.
Aww, so good to see you back - hopefully the health issues that have kept you away are starting to move in a positive direction for you. 'Frankenstein' is one of those books I've been meaning to read for ever. Almost the only thing I know about it (other than the basic story) is that the book is quite different from most of the film adaptations that most of us have seen over the years and treats the monster far more sympathetically than in the films. My 2023 'dance card' for books is full at the moment but 'Frankenstein' is in with a chance of making my 2024 TBR - particularly as it is such a short read. I'll be interested to hear your reaction to the book, as well as to all the other items on your bingo card. Thanks for the video and, once again welcome back. Take care - kind regards, Brian.
Hey Brian 🤗 - it's really good to be back and chatting with bookish friends again. Fingers crossed re my health 🤞 Yes the screen adaptions don't seem to have been faithful to the book. Look at you - filling your dance up when we're only half way through the year 😂😂 Thanks for staying subscribed while I was away - much appreciated. All the best
Frankenweenie sounds like it would be such fun! Sounds like an amazing read-along with some great supplementary materials!
Thanks Leandra. I hope you are keeping well. Another subscriber has commented that Frankenweenie is not a light watch 🤔 so I don't think it will be the light-hearted film I was thinking it would be. At least I will be aware of this going in.
Your Frankenstein bingo sounds fun! What a neat idea...I am imagining how I could do something similar for other books. I have only read the book Frankenstein, and that was when I was 18 (and we're probably close to the same age; I really should re-read it). I'm interested in hearing what your thoughts are on all of these books and films!
Hello Elizabeth 🙂 I am so pleased you like this idea and feel inspired. It's got me thinking too and I am already planning other bookish inspired bingo boards. I enjoy making little projects for myself - they are a good distraction from life 😂 But then I have to be careful that I don't overwhelm myself with all the things I want to do. I am really interested to read Frankenstein and it explore some of the other things the book and Mary Shelley has inspired. If you do re-read it, I would love to hear what you think of it now. Thanks for staying subscribed to my channel while I was away. It's much appreciated. Take Care
So lovely to see you! 😊 I love Frankenstein. I hope you enjoy it, it sounds like you have some great reading plans!
Thank you so much. I enjoy making little projects for myself - they are a good distraction from life 😂 I remember your video where you talked about how much you enjoyed Frankenstein. I am looking forward to immersing myself in over the next couple of weeks.
Good to see you again, Debra! I have Frankenstein as well, and I think I might read it in October. Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Hi Amy 🙂 thank you so much. I've really missed chatting with fellow book worms about books. I am looking forward to Frankenstein and then discovering how the book and Mary Shelley has continued to inspire other books, films etc. I would love to hear what you think of Frankenstein once you've read it. Thanks for staying subscribed to my channel while I was away. It's much appreciated. Take care
Lovely to see you sweetie 😊 hope you enjoy the books you get to 😊❤xx
Thank you so much. I have missed being more active in the Booktube Community.
That looks like a great bunch of books. I hope the readalong goes well. Although they aren't very faithful to the books I like the Boris Karloff movies, particularly the first two, for the pathos of the depiction of the Creature. Plus in the second one Bride of Frankenstein, there is an amazing prologue scene featuring Mary Shelley!
Hi Roy - thanks for the info re the Karloff films. I'm going to see if I can find them somewhere and add them to my list. Definitely interested in the prologue with Mary Shelley.
My first visit to your channel. I hope you made more progress since this video. Classics vs Modern Classics. There is no set definition, so I am glad you made your definition; we can work within those bounds. Suggestion: You read 3 shorter works by Gaskell, then went on to bigger works. This is a good way to introduce yourself to the authors and classics. Cranford - the cover is appropriate. Frankenstein is not a horror book. Don't go into the book with that expectation or you will be disappointed. Sherlock Holmes. Surely you have watched movies and/or TV shows. If so, no spoilers from what you already know and you can read in any order. Two types - singular novels, or collection of short cases/investigations. The collections you can read in any order (even within the book itself), but I'd suggest reading the novels in sequence. They are very easy to read. Alexander Dumas was half Black. The Count of Monte Cristo is 1000+ pages, but reads like a 200 pager. Really really easy to read. Three Musketeers is good, but The Count is better. 50 before 50 in 3 years means 17 books a year, or slightly more than 1.25 per month. Some of them you can blow through in a week (some, like Cranford, in a single day). You can do it!
Hello 😀 - thank you for visiting and commenting. I've read and really enjoyed Cranford. I will be starting Frankenstein this month. I would be less inclined to read it if it was a horror. I am planning to listen to Sherlock Holmes books in sequence as read by Stephen Fry. Thanks for the encouragement. Not all of the 50 books I was planning to read are classics. But there are so many classics I want to read now I will continue to make my way through them for many years to come, Alexander Dumas is an author I hope to get to one day.
I've had a copy of Lonely Castle for a while and really must get to it. Not read Jamaica Inn yet; it's good to hear how well (or not) it's aged.
Hi Katja - I am so sorry for the delayed reply. I have only now returned to my channel after a much longer break than I expected. It is so lovely to return and find some comments to respond to. I hope life has been treating you well and you have been reading some great books. I have so many videos in my subscription feed to try and catch up on. I did enjoy some aspects of Jamaica Inn but I don't think it's aged well in some areas.
I have hundreds of unread books which I find both exciting and a little stressful. During the pandemic, I went on a book buying binge (online). I work full time, fortunately through the pandemic, so I didn't have extra time to read..I am excited for the stories that await me and I LOVE my library.
Hello😀 I am so sorry for the delayed reply. I have only now returned to my channel after taking a break. I found myself with no books I wanted to read when we first locked down for months. But the search for recommendations brought me to booktube and down the booktube rabbit hole I went 😂 I am still a bit overwhelmed by all the books I want to read but I have been struggling with reading, which hasn't helped. I also worked full time, it was very stressful but grateful to still be employed. Outside of work, I spent hrs looking for books online that I might one day read. Libraries are just the best places. I hope you have been reading some great books.
i love the variety of your selection!!
Hello😀 I am so sorry for the delayed reply. I have only now returned to my channel after taking a break. I hope you are finding some good books to read,
Hey Debra, hope you're doing ok

I’m 37 and I’ll start reading these
