Happy New Year Randi-Lynn 🥳 Wishing you all the best. Looking forward to seeing what books you read in 2023.
Great list! Yay for The First Woman and Pachinko! 💜 I also enjoyed Black Mamba Boy when I read it a few years ago. I’m adding the other 2 to my list of books that I want to read at a later date! 😊📚

Our buddy read was definitely a reading highlight of 2022. I hope you enjoy the other books when you read them.
I really loved The Once and Future Witches as well! Great books!

It was a great read just to escape into.
I enjoyed your thoughtful commentary on what made these your favorite books. I have added them to my TBR (well, Pachinko was already on there) because you made them sound so fascinating. Among my favorites of the year is The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw.

Thank you so much Elizabeth. I really hope you enjoy reading some of these books. Thank you for sharing your favourite book. Church Ladies is definitely a book I want to read. I keep checking my library in the hope that they get it. I've heard so many great reviews. Wishing you all the best for 2023 🤗
Happy New Year! I remember thoroughly enjoying Pachinko as well. I read her debut novel, Free Food For Millionaires, not long after it and think I actually loved that one more, but I don't think that is typical. Can't wait to see what books 2023 brings us!

Pachinko was so good. I just couldn't stop reading it. I'm interested to read something else by the author.
After seeing your enthusiastic reaction to it during the year, I somehow thought that 'Pachinko' would be in your list - and it was also good to hear about the other four books, all of which seem definitely to be good, worthwhile reads. Casting my memory back briefly over 2022 I think my own five favourite tiles were 1. Hardy's 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' 2. Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' 3. Kate Chopin's 'The Awakening' (although it's just possible I read that right at the end of 2021) 4. Dickens' 'Great Expectations' 5. Forster's 'Passage To India'. And there's an honorary mention for Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' - making 2022 predominantly a year of the classics for me. 2023 is starting out the same way, as I'm finally tackling George Eliot's extremely chunk 'Middlemarch'. Thanks for the video and Happy New Year wishes to you and yours from me and mine - Brian.

Thank you so much Brian for sharing your favourite reads. Jane Eyre is definitely one I want to read this year. Also hopefully a Passage to India. I really enjoyed Great Expectations but not quite 5 stars for me. Looking forward to chatting books with you in 2023. Happy New Year to you too and all your family. Take care
That is a fab top 5!! I loved Pachinko. I definitely want to get to Black Mamba Boy & The First Woman. My best book of the year is Maps Of Our Spectacular Bodies ❤️📚❤️

Thank you Charlie 🤗 I've heard so many great reviews about Spectacular Bodies. Maybe I'll read it one day because it does sound good. I'm just not sure about reading about cancer. I read Crying in H Matt this year and I found parts of that very difficult. I bought Black Mamba Boy and The First Woman books new. Now I've read them I was going to give them to a local charity shop. However, if you want me to post them to you, I am happy to do that. They're in a still in good condition. Just let me know if you want them.
Happy new year Debra! Sorry I'm so late catching up! Great list! The Once and Future Witches is on my tbr! I also keep hearing about Pachinko, I need to look it up and add it to my list :)

I really enjoyed reading both books. I hope you are having a good start to 2023
Hi Debra, You had a wonderful reading year. I’m actually trying to read less books this year with more Intention. The book that you mentioned I’m most interested about is the boy that walks across Africa during World War II. I know nothing about this topic and want to learn so thank you. Sending you healing vibes from Hawaii. Aloha

I have a very similar intention Marilyn. I found Black Mamba Boy very interesting. A lot based on true events and I learnt a lot. I hope you are doing okay.
Happy new year sweetie lovely to hear your top books. Will say shuggie Bain is in my favourites 😊

Happy New Year Emily. Wishing you all the best for the year ahead. Thanks for sharing your favourite read.
The Once and Future Witches sounds great, a really interesting concept. Thinking about my favourite reads - Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Walters was a great trip into the Victorian world of music halls & gay society - Lady Audley's Secret by M E Braddon was an enjoyable popular sensation novel written in 1862 - I also really liked the Ginger Rogers mystery novel I did a video about. The maddest book I read was a Mills & Boon where the bloke could be a vampire 🧛♂️ ... not sure what would be my fifth choice 🤔

Sarah Waters is one of my favourite authors. I really enjoyed Nighwatch and Fingersmith. Lady Audleys Secret is one of the classics on my 50 books to read before I'm 50. I'm really pleased to hear you enjoyed it. The vampire Mills & Boon sounds entertaining 😂
Haven’t heard of a couple of these! I had been eying Once and Future Witches, but never actually picked it up.

Once and Future Witches was just a fun book to escape into. I really enjoyed the audiobook.
Ooh, well this was fantastic, 4 books I've not read, 2 I've never heard of and 2 I may never have got to, but will now prioritise. I think Black Mumba Boy might go on this monthsbTBR 🙂

Thank you Scott 🤗 I hope you enjoy Black Mamba Boy. I got a lot from reading this one. Aspects of African history I was not aware of.
I've only read one of these - The Gifts - which I really enjoyed and haven't heard that many people talk about. I read The Fortune Men by Nadifa Mohammed which I enjoyed so I must read Black Mamba Boy at some point. Great to hear about your favourite books 😊📚

The only people I've seen talking about The Gifts is you, me and Katie. I thought it would be more popular. I started reading The Orchard of Souls by Nadifa Mohammed but I ended up dnf-ing it about 2/3 of the way through. I just couldn't connect with the characters and the writing style felt very different.
Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year. Wishing you all the best for the year ahead.
Happy New Year Debra!! I haven't read any of these, they sound great!! My favourite books of the year, in no particular order, are: Home by Marilyn Robinson Pirenesi by Susanna Clarke The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The Woodwife by Terri Wyndling Hamnet by Maggie O Farrell Moonheart by Carles DeLint Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead Still Life by Sarah Winman Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller The Promise by Damon Galgut Also, how do I access community posts? Whenever I look, it says " not available on this device ". Is it because I don't make videos? Or are there other ways to access community posts??

Happy New Year Rebecca 🥳 Thank you so much for sharing your list of favourite books. Unsettled Ground is probably my sixth favourite book. I'm interested to read quite a few of the books on your list - Hamnet, Still Life, Great Circle, Piranesi. So many books, so little time 😂 I've read and enjoyed The Graveyard Book. I'm making a note of the other ones to check out. I've checked and the Posts tab is available on my partners phone, can see posts of channels they're subscribed too and they don't have a channel. Not sure if you watch on a phone or another device? You find it if you are in Subscriptions. Then along the top bar it has options for Videos, Unwatched, Posts etc. I think you can set it to see Videos and Posts. It's not something you access from my channel page. It in your main subscriptions tab. Does that make sense? Let me know and I'll try and help you 😃

Also - I think you suggested in the middle of last year maybe buddy reading Jane Eyre sometime this year. If you would still like to do this at some point. Please just let me know. No worries or pressure at all if you don't want to though 🤗 It's just a book I'd really like to read in 2023 at some point. I tend to use the voxer app on my phone for buddy reads because you can leave voice messages and it works well. I don't know if this would work for you. Just let me know 😃

@@bookinwithdebra I would absolutely love to buddy read Jane Eyre. It will be my first ever buddy read. I will download voxer. I am happy to start whenever works well for you. Although maybe after January as I seem to already have a few things I want to read over the next few weeks. I also haven't read a classic since I was at school so it will be an exciting and slightly nerve-wracking experience! Thank you for remembering!!

@@rebecca.reader Great 😃 I can't do January either. Once you have voxer you should be able to search and send me a message . Look for Book in with Debra or try bdebra823 if you that doesn't work. We can chat on voxer and make a plan that works for both of us. I prefer to read classics quite slowly so we can just take our time. No need to worry - I am happy to be flexible on timescale etc. Chat to you on voxer. Any problems just comment on a video and I should see it via a notification and can try and help 😃
