I would recommend The Windrush Betrayal as it’s a non fiction about The Windrush scandal. The author had interviewed numerous people about their families experiences during that time. It’s very hard hitting but extremely eye opening. The Lonely Londoners is an underrated classic which was just superb. Love Dorian Grey ❤️ Great wrap up as always 📚❤️

I never watched or read To Sir with Love, but really want to now! Love Benjamin Zephaniah. So many despicable characters in Dorian Gray. Lots of fascinating ideas in it. Great month Debra!

I would recommend To Sir With Love because it's a short and easy read. There's some language and behaviour you definitely won't agree with as a teacher today but it does capture the era and the times it was written in. The film feels very dated but still interesting to watch.

I hope you enjoy reading Dorian Gray. I found it quite hard going because of the writing style and all the unlikeable characters. But it had some really interesting things to say. Overall I am really glad I made the time to read it.

I read This Lovely City by Louise Hare, without knowing it was mostly a mystery, lol! It was good as a Windrush book. My review is in my April Wrap-Up, in case anyone's interested! 😉

I don't think I enjoyed the mystery element of the book that much. I watched your review before I read it. I am intrigued by the premise of the authors next book - mystery on a ship 😀

Great wrap up, Debra! To Sir with Love sounds fascinating, as well as The Windrush Child. I read Small Island by Andrea Levy many years ago, but I think it’s due a reread! X 😊📚

Thanks for what was quite a detailed review of the various works you recently read! The title song of the film 'To Sir With Love' by Lulu was one of 1967's many great pop/rock hits (showing my age, I know) but no doubt I need to consider getting round to doing justice to E R Braithwaite and reading his novel, upon which the film was based. 'Young Mungo' has had many positive reviews (including yours) but a lot of them have suggested that it doesn't quite hit the heights of 'Shuggie Bain'; so, if I do make a start on Douglas Stuart's works, I'll probably go with his earlier novel first. 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' has spent the last 50 years gathering dust on my bookshelves in England and, more recently , Florida. At the beginning of the year I tentatively put it on my TBR list for 2022 and in view of your enthusiastic review (albeit with the reservations you mentioned at the beginning of your review) I might now have to consider upgrading it from 'tentatively placed' to 'definitely placed' on the TBR list. And, finally, thanks again for taking the time and trouble to record, edit and upload these videos for us all - hope you're keeping well, best wishes, Brian.

I would recommend To Sir With Love as it's a quick and easy read. I have to be honest and say I probably wouldn't read another book by Douglas Stuart. I appreciate what he is writing about in terms of giving voice but the abuse detailed in his books is not something I want to keep reading about. I did find Dorian Gray quite hard going at times because of the writing style and the unlikeable characters but it has some really interesting things to say. It's also very quotable 😀 I hope you and your family are all keeping well. Thank you for always taking the time to leave great comments. It's much appreciated.

I have read about Windrush Day in a non-fiction book about racism in the UK, but not any books that were fully about that theme. I'm not currently reading anything but yesterday I started and finished Starfish by Lisa Fipps, which is an amazing middle-grade contemporary fiction novel in verse, and I loved it. I have to pick a new book to read, I'll probably do that later today. Have a good day!

Starfish sounds great. Looking forward to hearing more about it soon. I am very behind on my booktube watching but hope to get caught up when I can. The treatment of the Windrush generation and the governments Hostile Environment Policy is another horrendous part of UK history 😥
