What a wonderful range of different (and new to me!) selections. I especially loved hearing about the collection that is meant for new readers--what a great idea. I also define short as less than 200 pages, 250 feels like a regular book length to me.

Thanks Ketevan. The Reading Agency books are a great idea and they are good for short reads. Yes 250 pages feels like a regular size book for me too.
I like that we often get to see different parts of your home in the background Debra, it always looks so lovely. Really enjoyed Small Things Like These. Hope you have a great month.

Thank you Demelda 😃 The rest of the house is not that lovely 😂 We have quite a lot of work to do. Lots of adulting jobs 😞 I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Small Things Like These.
It's always good to have short book recommendations to help you get out of slumps! Sometimes quickly finishing a book gives me a boost to pick up the next one!

Absolutely. I've been feeling really slumpy with my reading so I'm hoping these shorter books will help.
I absolutely love this idea of Shorty September!! I may have to join the fun bc short books sound lovely at the moment 😅 There is so much variety in these prompts which is definitely great for mood reading :) "Boxer shorts: a comfort read" is the best. I hope you enjoy every book that your heart takes you!

Hi Leandra - apologies for the delayed reply. It's a great idea for a readathon. Things didn't quite go to plan for me. I've ended up having to take a break from reading. I am hoping to get back to my reading and Booktube. I have missed it. I hope you are keeping well.
I prefer short books, so this readathon works great with everything I'm already reading!!

That's great 😃 I'm hoping some of these short reads will help get me out of my slump. I occasionally like a chunky read but definitely not at the moment.
What a great pile of possibilities! I hadn’t heard of many of these. Enjoy your short works in September. 😊

It's a great idea for a readathon. Maggie Smith is such an amazing actress. I'm looking forward to watching the film again after so many years.
Ooooh I've not seen a lot of books by Johanna Sinisalo on booktube really!! I went to Finland for holiday and wanted to read a Finnish book while I was there, so I randomly found The Core of the Sun, and it was so weird and fantastic 😅😍. I definitely wish more people would read her books. And I read May Name Is Why for Shorty Sept last year!! It was so good!! ❤️ Thanks for jumping on to Shorty Sept!

It sounds like Sinsalo likes the weird 😂 I've heard so many good things about My Name Is Why. Shorty September is such a great idea for a readathon. I hope you have a great reading month.
My Name Is Why is so wonderful! I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by the author and it was brilliant. Good luck with Not Before Sundown - definitely the strangest book I've read this year! Move sounds really interesting. With the exercise I do - tai chi and zumba - I get so many benefits from them other than the obvious ones from physical exercise. Breathing is an important part of tai chi and it makes such a difference.

I'm gearing myself up for the strange and weird troll book 😂 Good to know you had a good experience with My Name Is Why. I've only read a short amount of Move so far but it is proving interesting. I've just started back at pilates but managed to move my class to a different day. That means I can try Zumba again. Going tomorrow night. I used to go regularly and really enjoyed it. But I've realised it's years and years since I went. Feeling a bit nervous about how hard I'll find it and uncoordinated I'll be 😬 but I'm going to try. I really want to get into a 'move more' routine. Stuck at a desk ALL day for work and it's really bad for my physical and mental health.

I added Six Foot Six to my TBR as I adored My name is Leon by Kit De Waal!! My Name Is Why works along side that actually so if you haven’t already read that one it might be worth picking it up if you have time (My name is Leon 288 pages) 🥰❤️ Hope you enjoy your September reading 📚❤️

So many great books! I read The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie last year and enjoyed it and went on to watch the Maggie Smith film too! It’s fascinating from a feminist viewpoint, but as a teacher, we wouldn’t be able to do today some of the things she does with her pupils! 😂 Graham Norton is on my list of authors to try in 2022, but I still haven’t read any yet! X 😊📚

I love Maggie Smith as an actress. Yes Miss Brodie would not make it as a teacher today 😂 I think it will give me more to reflect on about feminism and teaching, following on from our buddy read. My favourite of Graham Norton books so far was The Keeper. I found it really engaging. Atmospheric and quite dark. The premise of the book is loosely based on true events that the authors Mum told him about.

Hi Debra, Wonderful array of books! I would look for "My name is Why." I might have to buy it as it won't be available in the US easily. I showed a bunch of short books in my latest video and I'm getting excited finding some books in booktubers videos I want to read. Much Aloha.

Thanks Emily. I agree, I'm expecting My Name Is Why to be a difficult read.
I'm a big fan of 'short reads' - especially when I need some quick reads to keep my monthly reading average up. The great thing is that, even if you end up not liking a book, you don't feel as if you've wasted a big chunk of your time on it, which makes it easier to be more adventurous and to select some 'maybe/maybe not' titles. Unfortunately I'll have no time in September even for some shorties, as I'm still struggling to finish Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park' and am determined to get over the finishing line before Victober arrives. I'm tentatively planning on having a go at 'Middlemarch' as my Victober read and as I'm sure you know, that's a 'right chunky read' - to steal someone's phrase 🙂 - and I can't have Mansfield Park or anything else distracting me when I pick up that giant tome. Some short reads that I've enjoyed in the last couple of years are Edith Wharton's 'Ethan Frome', Kate Chopin's 'The Awakening', Jean Cocteau's 'Les Enfants Terrible' and Jeanette Winterson's 'The Passion' (which was so good I immediately re-read it). Thanks for introducing us to your selection of short reads (including Claire Keegan's which somewhat amusingly actually made this year's 'short' list for the Booker Prize!). Best wishes, Brian.

Hi Brian - I am so sorry for my delayed reply to your comment. I had to take some time away from reading and booktube due to some health issues. I am hoping to resume things again, even if at a slower pace than normal. How has your 'right chunky reading' being going? 😂 I bought a copy of Ethan Frome from a local charity bookshop, on your recommendation recently. I was pleased to find a copy. Thank you for the other suggestions. I hope you are keeping well and life is being kind to you.

Awww, sorry to hear about the health problems but it's great to see your return - and yes, I think it's very sensible that you move forward at your own pace, even it's a tad slower than previously. Hope you enjoy 'Ethan Frome' - my own reading slowed down when we got hit by Hurricane Ian at the end of September (fortunately it made landfall about 80 miles south of us, so we avoided a direct hit - even so we lost one tree from our garden). After that the wife had a trip to Ohio and came back with a bad bug (Covid test was negative, but who knows?) which she kindly 'shared' with me and we were both quite bad for a couple of weeks. However, I'm now at last nearing the end of 'Mansfield Park' and am already starting to plan my chunky and not-so-chunky reads for 2023! Best wishes and welcome back, Brian.

@@btwilks thanks Brian. Sorry to hear you and your wife have been unwell too. With all the social distancing there's a few awful colds doing the rounds now. I'm relieved to hear you avoided the worst of the hurricane. Shame about the tree though. Glad to hear you have made it through Mansfield Park. Another proper chunky to cross of your list 😃👍
Hope the translated fiction doggie book is as heartwarming as it sounds :) Move! sounds super. I still need to read something from Graham Norton, I've only heard good things about his writing.

Yes I'm hoping so Katja. My favourite of Graham Norton's so far has been The Keeper. It's quite a slow burn and it gets a bit dark. It's loosely based on a true story that the authors Mum told him from someone she knew which makes it more interesting.
I should have The Swimmer in an unopened parcel (I try to collect QuickReads when I can, from the Netherlands, I can't always find them, but I try to get them every year). I have Six Foot Six on my general TBR. Ooh I didn't know the main character from Six Foot Six was maybe neurodivergent! I may have to read it soon-ish haha. The Dog Who Dared to Dream sounds good. My Name is Why should also be in an unopened parcel. I think it sounds really interesting. I think there is also a full length version? I may buy that if I like the QuickReads one. The New Science of Body Over Mind sounds interesting. I'd love to know if it works for you when you read it! I hope you like this pile of possibilities!
