I don't tend to make many reading plans because I prefer to read by whim, that's why I don't usually participate in readathons etc. If I set a fixed TBR I then just end up wanting to read all the books that are not on that list! I think a seasonal pile of possibilities sounds like a great idea. My main goal is to ensure that I'm reading books from my shelves alongside all my library books. I like the sound of increasing your comfort reading 😊

I totally agree with you. As soon as I've created a tbr I start to loose interest and then it feels like a pressure to try and read them. Easier just not to plan. I always read by whim before. I'm definitely doing more comfort reading. It's what my brain needs.

I love how so many of us, myself included, are stepping back and taking a more relaxed approach to our reading this year!

Yes definitely 😃 It's actually really nice to give yourself permission to do this and it feels really freeing. I think it will help reinvigorate my reading as well.

Hi Debra, these sound like good plans..I'm definitely a mood reader...although I usually have a little pile of intentional reads that I hope to get to over the next few months ...I also have two local book clubs that I am part of. One I go to every month and always read the books ( it's a bookclub for my local bookshop, so the books are generally fairly recent releases, paperback) the other bookclub I dip in and out of ( books are from the library) .. I also really enjoy following the women's prize, but will only read the books that interest me. I also plan to read much more off my shelves this year 🤞 I very much looking forward to our buddy read next month. Happy reading 📚 😊

Hi Rebecca - I'm really looking forward to our buddy read too. I used to just mood read so I really want to be doing that more. Your book clubs sound great. Especially if you can dip in and out. I like to see what's included in the women's prize but I usually tend to wait for the hype to die down before I read any of them. I like the idea of having a small pile of intentional reads.

Hi Debra, It sounds like you got a plan. Self-care is so important! We can get so Rigid with ourselves that we forget it’s a hubby. I Your plan for Reading books around a topic and a chatty Friday reads which I plan to incorporate in my channel as well. Warm aloha sent your way😮

Hi Marilyn - my reading plans got knocked off track but that's okay because self care needed to take priority for a while. Sending best wishes to you 💛

If I make a TBR for a Readathon and I am not feeling the books I just change it out to whatever I do feel like. Watching Gem (Gem of books) has helped me with that. You read whatever and however makes you happiest though 😊 Piles of possibilities is a fab idea ❤ The community tab is always really useful. Fab video lovely 📚❤️

Thanks Charlie. Besides my buddy reads I'm just going to go with mood and whim. It's how I always read before Booktube. I think it's the best way at the moment for my dysfunctional brain 😂 I do like 'piles of possibilities'.

I LOVE the idea of reading for your innner child! I feel the same as you, I read so many books that were 3 stars and under last year and I don't like that. I'd like to have more higher rated books and really fall in love with reading again. Your mention of having to read for certain readathons is why I've never really taken part in readathons, I just couldn't hold myself to it and it feels so restrictive to me. Even though I know there are tons that don't have set books, it still feels like I have to confine my reading. Also happy belated birthday? I think your birthday would have passed now as I'm watching this so late! I love the plans for the channel, they sound great and in line with your needs. I'm keeping my plans and goals and loose this year (as I have done in the past 2 years haha).

Thank you for the birthday wishes 😃 Yes I definitely want more quality to my reading and one way to do that is to reduce quantity and be less prescriptive with readathons. Readathons have helped me find books I might not have read which is good. But I have loads of books on my tbr that I need to read.

I wish there was a place you could share your 50 before 50 books! A Friday or Saturday Reads, I think, are very easy to make, which is nice and people seem to enjoy them. I really recommend that route. And the Community Board is a great way to let people know if you aren’t able to make a video one week or sharing a sneak peak of what is ahead. Good luck! Be well! 💛

Thank you. I'm definitely going to shift towards Friday/Saturday Reads this year l. My 50 Before 50 videos have had some really great and useful comments from people with suggestions for future reads. I really like the community board as an alternative way of keeping in touch and sharing. Take care

Great video! I love the idea of grouping together books of a similar topic! I seem to be reading a lot of books connected with grief right now! 😢😢😢 Hope you enjoy starting a reading journal. Seasonal TBRs are a great idea too! X 🥰📚💜

Thanks for sharing your approach to your book journal 😃 It was really useful in helping me work out how I might use mine. I'm still working out if grouping together books will work but something different to try.

Oh, I also wanted to say that I read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman last year, it is middle grade and has fantastic illustrations by Chris Riddell. It is a really heart warming tale and I would highly recommend.. I'm aware you may not be looking for more recommendations, but it definitely fits with cosy middle grade, so....if you come across it in the library ..😊

I'm definitely looking for more cosy recommendations. I listened to The Graveyard Book on audio a few years ago. Books like that are what I need sometimes to help slow down my brain, switch off a bit and relax. Definitely going to try and do more of that this year. I need it 😌

Oh dear, somehow this video seems to have slipped by me and I've only just noticed it. I really like your idea of easing the various pressures on yourself that can arise through trying to run a BookTube channel as well as fit in all the other priorities that our various lives contain. I follow a lot of painting/sketching channels and it's amazing how many of them regularly mention that they find their art becoming more of a chore than a pleasure when they allow external factors such as KZread and the demands of its algorithms to control the direction and nature of their channels. So, I definitely think that things like early DNF'ing of books that aren't working for you and putting out only content that you personally feel enthused about are going to make it much easier for you to put out content that you will enjoy making (and, of course, that we will all enjoy watching). Good luck (not that you'll need it) with the channel for the rest of the year - and, hopefully, for many more years to come. Kind regards, Brian.

Thanks Brian. Please don't worry if you don't manage to catch all my videos. I always enjoy your comments though 😀 Yes it's tricky getting a balance with having a channel to keep in touch with the community and support other channel makers. But trying to make enough time for reading, other interests 😀 and then all that boring adulting stuff and work 🙄 Definitely dnf-ing more. I think the best way forward for me will be to do a few less videos, which will hopefully give my channel longevity. I hope you have a good week so far 😀

I always make plans then never keep them and I end up doing something different lol! I’ve had to slow down on video production lately as I’ve been sick off and on this past month. It’s done wonders for my reading though 😂

So sorry to hear you've been sick. I hope you are starting to feel better. Definitely good for your reading though. I think I will be planning on a little less videos this year. I was to create a little more time for reading.
