That looks like a great haul! I totally agree about needing to have a balance between more challenging books and comfort reads so that you can pick what you feel in the mood for.

I'm definitely going to try and have more balance with my reading this year. More mood reading too. Also going to be dnf-ing more, following the example set by Queen of DNF's 😉😂
I also added Feminism Interrupted to my wish list because of Charlie - it sounds fascinating. When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is a great book. I love the look of Witch’s Garden - gorgeous. Great haul! Sorry to hear you’ve been having health issues Debra - sending lots of positive thoughts to you x 🤍

Thank you so much Jack. I'm trying to improve my health and get some balance in my life while my medication is settling in. I think Feminism Interrupted will be a really thought provoking book. The Witches Garden is such a beautifully made book - full if fascinating facts and beautiful illustrations. I've only ever heard great reviews about When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. It's nice to have some comfort reads to hand.
A ‘comfort reads only’ book shop trip sounds lovely, we should all do that more often 😊

It was really nice to have a day out looking around charity shops only looking for comfort reads. This year is definitely going to include more comfort reads.
Hi Debra. You have some real gems there! I haven't read any of them but my children read the Inkheart books when they were younger and loved them!! I find children's fantasy literature perfect for comfort reading. Also, The Witches Garden looks like a brilliant book, I will see if my library has a copy next time I am there.Sending best wishes to you! 📚 🌞

I've just got to make time to read them all now 😃 I'm glad to hear your children enjoyed Inkheart. Books about books are usually great and I think it will be lovely and comforting. The Witches Garden is a lovely book to dip in and out of. Full of factual snippets and it has some lovely illustrations. I hope you are keeping well. All the best 🤗
How great to find a good book on a hospital visit! You have a really diverse and interesting set of books there. I was lucky enough to be slightly involved in a project with Pluto Press a few years ago, they are nice folks.

It was so lovely to leave hospital with a book from my wishlist. Pluto Press have some really interesting books exploring some interesting issues.
Certainly a wide range of books in that haul - you should easily have something to suit every season and mood in 2023. I'll be interested to hear how you get on with 'Ethan Frome' later in the year. It was my first Edith Wharton book and i was so impressed that I recently bought her 'The Age Of Innocence' and it's on my TBR for 2023. I also bought 'Silas Marner' - which is in your own haul - but at the moment it doesn't have a slot for 2023; however I might be able to sneak it in as an extra, given that it's not a long work. Thanks for taking us through your selection and I wonder for how long the 'no more book hauls' resolution will withstand the temptations that constantly arise for all book lovers? ;-) All the best, Brian.

I've been told Ethan Frome is a bit bleak so I'll need to wait until I'm in the mood for tackling that one. I'm interested to hear what you think of The Age of Innocence and Silas Marner when you do get round to them. My main temptation to buy books comes from a local Oxfam second-hand bookshop. I often find good books in there.
You got a wonderful selection of books Debra ☺️ Thank you for the shout out. I love Pluto Press, such a great little publisher. I have seen Mask Off before and it is one I want to get to. Behind Closed Doors also sounds like an interesting read. I need get a few more comfort reads for my shelves as a lot on my shelves are hard hitting/historical at the moment 😅Its a good idea to keep a little stash of comfort for when you need it 📚🥰❤️ Great video as always and I hope you enjoy everything you get to xxx

Thanks Charlie. Pluto Press have a lot of interesting titles. But I'm going to try and read these before I buy anymore. I really I needed a supply of comfort reads. A lot of my books deal with challenging issues too. Sometimes it's nice to just read for comfort.
I may have just gone shopping crazy but they are added on to February book haul.. I have no shame 😂😂 Hope you love all your books 😊

If buying books makes you happy - go for it Emily. You read so many books Emily that you have to keep buying them 😂 I'm looking forward to your video to see what you have.
You hauled so many books of great value! It’s hard to find books set in Malaysia. The one in Senegal sounds quite a tough read. The Judith Kerr book is still liked by kids today; one of my Year 6 pupils was reading it the other day! 😊📚💜

I'm pleased to hear Judith Kerr's book is still being enjoyed. That's a good sign. I will one day tackle the Senegal book. It's sounds hard going so I'm quite relieved it's short.
Yay! Silas Marner! George Eliot! Enjoy. 🙂

I feel like so many people are going away from book hauls which I understand, I've said the same! I've read Hold and I actually have an individual book review of it, funny as I don't remember anything about it now but I didn't love it so that's not surprising. Pluto Press sounds really good, I've seen that book by JJ Bola but I didn't realise it was from an indie press. The Reader sounds like an interesting book, I will be checking this out. I also have When Hitler store the Pink Rabbit, I got it for free but still haven't read despite having it for like 3+ years! Wonderful haul, I love the variety of genres and types of books!

That's a shame about Hold. I'll give it a go at some point. I've heard really positive reviews about Feminism Interrupted. Pluto Press have some interesting non-fiction. Pink Rabbit is supposed to be a real comfort read so I'll be keeping it for when I need to escape into some comfort.
Wow you got some great deals! Love those picks from Pluto Press, I'll have to check them out. The Reader on 627 alsosounds so delightful! I was pleasantly suprised by Ethan Frome! It was something my classmates had to read for class and they moaned about it so much it got stuck in my head that it wouldn't be good, but it was! Very depressing for winter months though 😬 I'm on a strict book buying diet right now so love living vicariously through haul videos 🤣

Pluto Press have some really interesting non-fiction books and they often have sales if you look directly on the publisher website. They are UK based but a lot of the books are available as e-books as well if you use ebooks. It's amazing how school reading impacts us later in life. Thanks for the tip about Ethan Frome. It's definitely not a winner read for me then.
So many great books, hope you´ll have fantastic time reading them! Love the cover of Hold. the book about feminism sounds really interesting. Will try to find it somewhere... I haven´t read Inkheart yet but saw a movies few years ago and was thinking about it actually few days ago 😊 love the witchy book 🤩

Thank you 😃 The publisher often does sales if you wanted to buy Feminism Interrupted so it's worth checking the publisher website directly. I do like a gorgeous book cover. I'm looking forward to dipping in and out of The Witches Garden. Once I've read Inkheart, I'm going to watch the film.
Hi Debra, I hope you’re feeling much better in 2023. I have actually been ill in January but I am much better now. I was in emergency twice so I know how anxiety producing that can be. I love that you read independent presses, Especially Memoirs dealing with Social issues. Believe it or not I’ve been to Northern England as far as Hull. I loved the people there and I went to visit a friend. I am also reading comfort books but mine are mostly mysteries. Sending you warm Aloha.

I'm really sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Keep looking after yourself. I really like living in the North. It's very friendly and 'down to earth'. Hull is quite a way from me and I've never actually been there. I'm lucky to live in a lovely area in land with lots of beautiful countryside but within a town. I'm definitely looking forward to more comfort books this year.

It can be hard to find comfort reads. Sometimes it's just too hard to read what I like to read because of dark moments.

Hi Tammy 🤗 yes I know what you mean. I recently choose a middle grade book as a comfort read. But it had some really dark stuff (for middle grade) in it. It wasn't what I was expecting.
Witches Garden sounds lovely

It's such a well presented book. Full of lots of interesting factual snippets from history and folklore. It has some really beautiful illustrations and art work. I'm looking forward to dipping in and out of it throughout the year.
The Reader sounds so lovely! And The Witch's Garden looks intriguing. I bought myself a beautiful book off Etsy for my birthday (A Compendium of Witches by Natasa Ilincic) but unfortunately it's coming from Scotland and was caught up in the Royal Mail fiasco so I have yet to receive it 😔. And btw, I am still interested in doing a buddy read of Kindred with you, I even picked up a copy at a secondhand shop a couple of weekends ago. you name the time and I'll be ready 🤗

A Compendium of Witches sounds interesting. I hope it arrives soon. Oh yes I'm definitely still interested in buddy reading. That's great that you have managed to get a copy of Kindred. I'm trying to only do 1 buddy read a month with physical books. That way I can manage the reading without adding pressure to myself. It also leaves me space to have an easy, comfort read before I go to sleep. Which I will need with reading Kindred. I've only heard great reviews of the book so I think it will be really good to buddy read. Would May work for you if we read the book over the month? I know that seems like a long time away but I've got buddy reads already arranged for the other months until then.
