Hi Debra! January is my least favourite month too. The Past and Future Readathon is such a lovely start to the year. So glad you’re joining us for Jamaica Inn! I read my first EM Forster last year and want to read more. I want to join in on The Three Musketeers if I can as well, but after War and Peace I feel I need a break from big classics. But the FOMO may get me! Happy reading!

Yes January is a tough one. I am giving myself permission to do quite a bit of hibernating this year. I am still quite intimated by big classics. I think you appreciate them more when you commit to one every now and then. I found Jamaica Inn very atmospheric.

January is also the hardest month of the year for me. I have Lonely Castle in the Mirror on my Jan TBR.

Hello 😀 it's a tough time of year. I hope you are doing okay. I hope you are enjoying reading the Lonely Castle in the Mirror. I have enjoyed it. It was not quite what it was expecting overall but I thought it was good.

Sounds like some wonderful reads. The Book Woman series sounds so interesting. I really want to get to Jamaica Inn soon. Rebecca has been a favorite for years.

As soon as you held up Lonely Castle I was like 'ooh I love that book!' 😂 I hope you enjoy it. I am going to be joining in with Jamaica Inn as well, it's a reread for me but a really long time since I first read it! I like what you said about not wanting to make plans in January, we are all programmed to do that but actually you can make plans any time you like 😊

I enjoyed The Lonely Castle in the Mirror. Something really different. It wasn't quite what I was expecting overall but I enjoyed it. Jamaica Inn is very atmospheric - great for reading at this time of year. January is all about hibernating for me this year. Absolutely - we can make plans whenever works for us.

Although I presently have no room at the inn to fit them into my January reads, the Forster and du Maurier books you mentioned are both on my 'long distance' TBR list and I'll definitely be interested in hearing how you get on with them. I've told Emily that I'll try to make an appearance in the Past and Future Readathon by posting on my Instagram page (with the relevant hashtag) for a couple of books I plan to read in January. My monthly reading plans always tend to be the same - read an oldie classic and a modern classic and try to fit in an extra item when possible. So, for January, I've made a start on George Eliot's 'Middlemarch' and Albert Camus' 'The Plague' - and I'm really enjoying both of them so far. The 'extra item' is also to hand, but I'll keep that hidden until I post it on Instagram a bit later in the month as part of the readathon :-) Thanks for the video and I'll close by wishing you good luck with the mightily chunky 'Three Musketeers. All the best, Brian.'

Hi Brian - Jamaica Inn was very atmospheric. A great read for this time of year. I had no idea what to expect from my first E.M Forster. It's my first novel by him and it's a short one but I am not sure overall. I didn't realise you had an Instagram acc. I don't use Instagram. I tried but then I gave up. I couldn't get my head around doing the stories etc. You'll have to start a booktube channel Brian 😉 I am interested to hear your thoughts when you finish The Plague. I hope you are keeping well.

The past and future readathon sounds great, those prompts are great! You are taking part in so much in January haha, good luck with it all :) I had to read A Passage to India at school, we only read part of it but it was enough to put me off E.M Forster for life 😂

I've read the E.M Forster book. I went in with no expectations but I'm not sure his books will all be for me. Jamaica Inn was very atmospheric though.

Hi Debra. I look forward to hearing what you think of Lonely Castle in the Mirror. I am really interested to read it! I am also taking part in the FOMO bookclub, but I read Jamaica Inn relatively recently so won't reread but will follow along. My reading plans for January are: I want to read some Greek Mythology retellings, starting off with Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes and also her Pandoras Jar, which is non fiction ( so might take me a while!!) Also, I read Moonheart by Charles de Lint last year and loved it! So I want to read some more books by him in January. Also, every new year in our family, we all pick a book for the other family members to read ( a recommendation). My son has picked for me to read..Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif ( which actually fits in with my Greek retellings in a way) ...that's what I am currently reading 📚

It was very atmospheric. I am also really interested to hear how you find your Greek Myth retellings. I feel like I need a basic background on the Greek Myths, which seem to have passed me by. Then I would like to try some myth retellings. I love your family book recommendation idea. What a lovely idea and a great way of sharing a love of books.

Great list to kick off the year! I started Jamaica Inn at the weekend and am loving the writing and intense atmosphere! I want to read some Forster books as I keep seeing them pop up in people’s favourite videos. I have heard great things about The Troublesome Creek book; have you read The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes, as it’s also about women delivering books on horseback? 🥰📚💜

Jamaica Inn was very atmospheric. I really enjoyed the writing style too. I read The Giver of Stars - a few years ago. I actually enjoyed the The Bookwoman of Troblesome Creek more. I found the history of the Blue People very interesting to learn about.
