Strangely enough, I only heard about the July/Jane Austen tradition very recently (under a rock, apparently - in case anyone wants to know where I've been). I had 'Silas Marner' penciled in for my July classic read but have now gone for 'Mansfield Park' as a last-minute substitution, to ensure I get my 2022 Jane Austen membership card. I hope you like Cranford - it's a light and charming work which, for some reason has kept bringing me back over the decades - I think I've now read it four times, most recently last year. 'Persuasion' is a special book for me, as I studied it about 45 years ago as part of a two year A-level Eng. Lit. course that I did at night school with a young lady with whom I worked and on whom I was rather keen. The A-level worked out very well - I got a grade A pass - but sadly I eventually ended up getting somewhat lower marks from the young lady. Thanks for the video and I hope you enjoy all the books/videos that await you in July. Best wishes, Brian.

Hello Brian 😃 up until now I've never been drawn to Jane Austen but I got pulled in by Booktube. I'm now interested to find out more. Glad to hear you're going for your Booktube Jane Austen Badge 😂 I loved reading about your experience of reading Persuasion. But if things had been different you might not be relaxing in sunny Florida now. I'm looking forward to Cranford, which I'm planning to start reading today. I hope you are keeping well. Take care

I hope you like Thin Places! It sounds interesting. Black Mamba Boy sounds nice, I haven't read much about Africa in World War II either. Yes it makes sense you don't want to watch or read a retelling before reading the original book. Happy reading in July!

Thanks Heather. Yes I feel like I'll be able to dip in and out of the poetry in between all the different books I've planned to read. I might have over-committed but we'll see how it goes.

Thank you. The woodstove is lovely in winter, especially when our boiler broke last year and we had no heating in the house 😑 It kept us going for a month. I'm looking forward to the Naturalists Book Club.

@@bookinwithdebra I just posted a video review of the new movie and a few other Jane Austen July books I'm reading. My feelings are mixed on it - there were parts I liked and parts I didn't. If you look at it as an adaptation it's awful. If you look at it as just a film - it's a bit better.

@@bookinwithdebra Yeah me too, although I think I liked it more than some have - just as long as I don't look at it as an adaptation, then it's fine.

Look forward to seeing if Jane Austen is for you or not. Hey, while you're looking for Readathons/reading groups that might work for you, have you heard of Invisible Cities? It's run by a bunch of KZreadrs including Stephanie at Time to Read! And Nicole is here to learn - they read different novels from around the world, 2 new countries each month, it's low key you don't have to do anything and there's a discord where they share recommendations. Just figure that's you're thing.
