Thank you Demelda. It's one of my favourite mugs for tea drinking. I am definitely going to ty and read less books at once going forward.

Best laid plans Debra! I am so glad you’ve been enjoying all the group reads and readathons. I’ve loved hearing your insightful comments in the groups we’ve been in. I constantly promise myself I’ll mood read and then the FOMO gets me. We need to run a “moodathon” month where the only challenge is to mood read! 😂

Yes a 'moodathon' 😁 that's exactly what we need. I've really enjoyed all the readalongs and buddy reads so it's so it's always tempting to do more. Life would be so much more easier with more time to read 😀

Hi Debra. I found it interesting that you mentioned about just reading one book at a time....this is something I have been thinking alot about recently. I used to always just read one book at a time but then a few years ago, when I found booktube, I started to read multiple books at a time . I think it is down to....so many recommendations, always hearing of new books that I want to read, and the fact that most book tubers read so many books a month and somehow reading multiple books feels like I am keeping up...though in reality I only manage about 4 or 5 books a month. But recently I have realised that I enjoy a book so much more if I read it by itself. And so I have decided to go back to this approach. With the exception of none fiction. I like to have one non fiction and one fiction book onthe go. Non fiction I read much slower. It takes me probably a month to get through a non fiction...generally. I'm looking forward to book monogamy again 😁. Also, very much looking forward to your video about plant medicine! It's a love of mine too. I counted my unread books recently and it is somewhere in the region of 400 ! 🤯 that is just fiction. On the plus side, it feels like having my own personal library...which is nice. But I have a small house, so my library will only be able to expand so far! Yes, I would like to hear how many you have.

I am very much in the same place as you with my reading. I have so many books I want to read that it's tempting to try and read lots at once or too many a month. Booktube did it to me too 😂 I am going to try and read less and follow your book monogamy idea 😀 Great term. Your 400 fiction book library is making me feel better. I do think books help make a house feel like a home but like you, I have a small house. There really is no more space. I am now storing some in a big box under the bed. I've been accused of trying to turn the whole house into a library - as if I would - imagine 😂 📚

Love your chatty style for this video! And so interesting to hear your thoughts on your reading patterns for the year so far. I love that feeling of being so involved in a book, you can’t read anything else! That’s not happened to me for a while! Looking forward to our buddy read 😊📚

Thank you 😀 I am going to try and focus more often on one book at a time for my physical books. I am finding I juts get into the book much more and enjoy the experience more that way. I will be doing that with The First Woman because it's a but chunky. I can juggle audiobooks because I usually pick a different genre.

Lovely chatty video😻, I enjoyed hearing your plans and observations, I can relate to the "one book at a time", I also have times like this in a year, either because I'm not in a perfect reading mood or because I find a fascinating read that needs no competition 😁 I'm in total awe when hearing all the reading events you're participating in, congratulations ! Looking forward to seeing updates on all of them 👍 Alexandra 🌷

Thanks Alexandra. I am a mood reader so there are definitely times when just reading one book is a good idea. Then sometimes I'm drawn to putting one book down and picking up another. It's nice to have some reading plans but I need to give myself more space for flexibility.

I tend to read two books at the same time, because I like to read in bed...and I can only read my Kindle in bed :) And then I read a physical book when I'm out of bed. You take part in lots of readathons! That's something I want to do more of. I sometimes have trouble sticking to a TBR, but I like trying 😅

Hi Erin 😃 I've enjoyed participating in readathons. I've found so many books that I might not have read otherwise. But I have found myself trying to read too many books. I have so many books I want to read, it's easy to over commit. I listen to audiobooks to help me get to sleep at night and then a different one during the day. I can listen to multiple audiobooks because they are usually very different. Looking forward to see what books you plan on reading in future 😃

Thanks for sharing your chatty video with us all! You seem to have plenty of plans to get you through the rest of this year and it's interesting to hear you say that you don't want to overburden yourself with too many plans. My own regular monthly reading plan is also relatively modest - I aim to read one 'classic classic' and one 'modern classic' each month, with the hope of adding another random read if time permits (it rarely does). July's selection is Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park' & Hermann Hesse's 'Demian' and I'm reading them sequentially rather than concurrently. I do prefer the 'one book at a time' approach, as it speeds the progress through the selected book and this helps me to keep the characters, events etc clear in my mind .... an important consideration when one's mind has been hard at it for 69 years and is maybe getting a little worn round the edges :-) Hope you have an enjoyable literary July. All the best, Brian.

Yes Brian - I like planning and then get overwhelmed by all my plans 🤣 I have too many books I want to read and lots of other interests I want to pursue. I never get bored these days. I think reading one book at a time more often might be a good way to go for me. There are some books that are okay for me to read with other books but I really want to read less books at once. I hope you are enjoying Mansfield Park and Demian. Take Care 🙂

Yay for reading 37 books so far, yes if things go well you should be able to surpass your 52-book goal! I enjoy buddy reads too. Yes definitely don't over commit, I try to not do that either because it makes me feel stressed out too much. Maybe there is a book we'd both like to read and buddy read it, some day, (I don't mind using Voxr but I feel more comfortable typing out messages rather than recording myself talking, for myself, I don't know how you use the app and whether you prefer to hear people talk rather than read their words). Aww for not being on the exercise bike and watching BookTube videos, that sounds like a nice idea! It wouldn't work as much for me as I'd like to write comments as I watch the video (I wouldn't remember as much if I wait until after). I am a massive mood reader, glad you are enjoying all the read-a-thons and read-a-longs and themed things. I hope you can just mood read in September haha. There are so many things going on most months on BookTube. I usually prefer to read one book at once (particularly if it's a fiction book) but yes sometimes with nonfiction I read several books at once and dip in and out, and also if I do a buddy read or readalong and then want to read more that day then I pick a 'book for myself' to read. Yes some books I much prefer to just read just that one book and not others. It generally works best for me to read one book at once, but sometimes I do read multiple at once. Hmm.. it's a difficult question with the counting. I have a big TBR but I'm not bothered by it, I love having so many books to read (I could look up the number but it is always changing a bit, it is a lot). But if you think it'll help you to count them, feel free, I would watch the video (including what categories of books as that's interesting statistics I feel haha). Great video!

A buddy read together would be great 😀 I don't mind if other people prefer to type messages in the app. I just prefer to talk through my thoughts on books that spend ages typing long messages. I usually have a lot to say 😂 It's very easy to use for voice or typed messages. I really enjoy all the community participation opportunities in booktube but you can easily find yourself over-committing. I agree, non-fiction books can be good for dipping in and out of. I think I will count all my books and go through all the categories, mainly so I have a better understanding of all the books I have. I can then keep and eye on how many books I am reading off my tbr shelves and what I am bringing into the house. I'm not going to be strict with myself. I just need to read some of the books I own as space is running out now. I think reading one book at a time more often might be a good way to go for me. There are some books that are okay for me to read with other books but I really want to read less books at once.

I love these mid-year check-ins! Read alongs are definitely something I have yet to try joining. I couldn't quite hear the app you use for buddy reading. What was the name of it? Also - physical TBR is definitely a priority of mine (and one I'm not doing well with either 😂) I am very particular with which books I am willing to juggle. I'm a big supporter of reading one book at a time from beginning to end 😁 And finally I support you counting your books!

I would recommend readalongs if there is one for a book you are interested in. You get a out of hearing other people's thoughts on a shared read. I will leave the name of the app in another reply. KZread has a tendency to delete any comment where you use the name of another app so I won't include in this reply! I think I will count all my books and go through all the categories, mainly so I have a better understanding of all the books I have. Always a relaxing time with your videos. 😎🫶. Before becoming a BT watcher, I was always a book monogamist - but BT has made me greedy. However, I really want to get back to only reading one (or maybe two if they are very different books or one is audio) at a time because I really think I get more out of the experience and the book gets more of a “fair go”. Best book I’ve read this year so far is Still Life by Sarah Winman. Don’t understand why it was not on the Women’s Prize Longlist (unless Winman asked for the book not to be considered, which apparently something authors can do 🤷). Seems like a massive oversight IMO. That said, my favourite novel read last year is The Promise by Damon Galgut. I honestly don’t think a week has gone by since I finished it that I don’t think about it. Yet, despite winning The Booker, it seems to have received very little love and/or attention. So I guess prizes are…🤷🤷😅. Have you done a video on which countries you’ve read for your round the world long-term challenge? I’d be interested in that! I have a couple of lists (100 classics in translation and 50 modern classics in translation) that I am low-key trying to check off over time. And I’m also participating in The Bookishland / Meonicorn’s From and About Asia Project (started last year and very ‘chill’ Asian reading project). So always curious about people’s translated Reading adventures. Happy Reading. 🦊📚🤓

Thank you so much - I am so pleased you find my videos relaxing. Yes, like you Booktube changed the way I read and how many books I am trying to read. My tbr books and library wish lists are off the scale 🤔 I agree with you, it's good to give a book a fair go. I think you get more out of a book if you focus on it fully. I always have a couple of audiobooks on the go too but I feel that it's a different way to engage with a book so it doesn't impact on my physical reading. I have Still Life on my library wishlist. I have heard other people saying they felt it should have been on the Women's Prize list as well. There was a lot of 'unknown' books on the list this year. I haven't read The Promise but heard mixed reviews. I like to wait for all the hype to pass on book prizes. I did a wrap up video for recent Read Around the World books a couple of months ago and a specific video for Cuba quite a while a go. Not all of my Around the World books are translated as I am limited mostly to my tbr shelves and my local library. My criteria includes author now living in a different country or author family heritage being from the country. You're translated lists sound really interesting. I will try and put a link to my other videos in another reply if it will let me.
