I too love finding books in charity shops. I've been spoiled rotten in finding a great many titles on my TBR short list for less than a dollar 🙂

Whenever I find a book in a charity shop that is on my wish list, it's like finding book treasure 😀 Less than a dollar is a real bargain

It's definitely one of my favourite things too. I have to limit myself going into the charity bookshop because I really, really don't need anymore books 😂

I love finding bargains in the charity shops. I found some contemporaries that are new releases for £2 in a local oxfam which are great. Love the gorgeous classics that you got

Me too 😊 You can get some great bargains. Books that don't even look like they've been read. We have an Oxfam bookshop local to us and it's great. It's lovely weather here in North Yorkshire. I hope the sun is shining where you are 🌞

I've only ever seen clips of the film but I'm planning to watch it after I've read the book. I imagine Sidney Poitier played the role amazingly.

Wolf Den sounds like something I would enjoy. Generally, all of my books are bought second hand.

Yes I'm intrigued to read historical fiction set in ancient Rome. Good to know I'm not the only one who mainly buys second hand 😃

What a great haul! I've heard great things about Love in Color, hope you enjoy it. I had no idea that the film To Sir with Love was based off of a book, and that it was an autobiographical story - wow I need to pick that one up, it's one of my favorite classic films!

Thank you so much 🙂 I have finished reading To Sir With Love. It was good. Definitely captures the era in the UK at that time. I have not actually see the film, although I have seen clips. I been waiting until I read the book. I am hoping to watch the film at some point soon.

Great haul, Debra! I would love to get Love in Colour at some point! I liked Northanger Abbey and it’s one of Austen’s shorter books too! I watched a good adaptation of it with Felicity Jones as the main character! 😊📚

Thank you 😊 I'm glad you liked Northanger Abbey. After I've read each classic I am hoping to watch a screen adaption at some point so I'll check that one out.

It really is a calming experience to peruse bookshops, isn't it? Especially secondhand/charity shops because they usually have older edition covers which can be gorgeous!! 😍 I recently read a Jane Austen-themed Whodunnit (*The Murder of Mr. Wickham* by Claudia Gray) somewhat by accident 😂 And I had only read Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility prior, but I loved the book so much, meeting characters from Austen's other books, so I am very interested to read more of them, including Northanger Abbey! A great book haul!

Yes I really enjoy browsing in bookshops. They are a happy place 😀 The Murder of Mr Wickhalm sounds intriguing. I am going to give Northhanger Abbey a go first and then decide about Jane Austen's other books. It's good to know that you have enjoyed them. Thank you 😊

Ooh, recent classics I've bought from the thrift shop were Candide and Hound of the Baskervilles. There was a very pretty copy of Faust as well, but I thought I'd better leave it for a long-time lover of Faust, not condemn it to my "To-do List" where books sometimes stay for years.

The Wolf Den sounds interesting! I haven't heard nor read that many books taking place in ancient Rome, I've read a few and have another couple on my general TBR. I hope you like The Wolf Den! I have Love in Colour on my general TBR too, I've heard great things. Black and British sounds interesting, I hope you enjoy this bigger book than the other one you read. 520 pages, that is a chunky book yes! Seeking Silence in a Mindful World sounds interesting too. Yes dipping in and out I think is best for some of these bigger nonfiction books. I like to find great books in charity shops too! Unfortunately where I live we don't have as many of them as in some other places or like in some places in the UK.

Yes I'm intrigued to read historical fiction set in ancient Rome too. Black and British is definitely going to be a dip in and out book over time. There's a lot of content to take in with that one. That's a shame that you don't have many charity bookshops. It's a great way to find book bargains.

Some people produce rabbits from a hat but you improved on that old trick by producing a nice wide range of books from a bag! I'd not heard of 'Wide Sargasso Sea' until fairly recently and, having just finished 'Jane Eyre' myself (enjoyed it immensely) , I'm intrigued by the idea of a prequel. It might well be one to go on my to-do list for 2022. So far, I've read two Jane Austen novels ('Persuasion' and 'Pride & Prejudice') and I have a sort of vague plan to try to read the rest of her works by the end of next year. With its short length, 'Northanger Abbey' might be an easy one to slip in as an additional read one month. It would be interesting to hear your opinion of the book when you get round to it (and also of 'Jane Eyre' - you know you really want to finish it now you have the prequel LOL). The last bargain second-hand book I bought was about 10 years ago when I picked up a Dr Who novel - I'm old enough to remember watching the first episodes on BBC in the early 1960s - it was an enjoyable light read and I finished it in a couple of days. Well, I'm away now to see who else has posted interesting videos on KZread - thanks for yours, it was a pleasurable quarter of an hour. Best wishes, Brian.

Yes my book bag of tricks 😂 I am determined to get back to Jane Eyre and finish it this year. Then give Sargasso Sea a try at some point. A bargain Dr Who book sounds great. I love how every generation has their own Dr Who. Mine was Tom Baker and his long colourful scarf 😊 Thanks for the great comment. Brian. Take care

Nice, I've only read Wide Sargasso Sea, which I didn't like due to the writing style, but it had excellent themes and discussions. Also I think Jean Rhys is Dominican, which isn't an easy country to find authors from on account of it being tiny.

That's a shame that you didn't like it. It's only a short read so I'll give it a go at some point. It's a bonus that it fits with my Read Around the World challenge too 😃 I hope you are both keeping well

Hello Emma - I love exploring charity shops and second hand book shops for book bargains. It's like hunting for book treasure and it's so satisfying when you find something on your wish list 😀
