A nice wide range of books in your early-2022 purchases. Always good to see the classics appear - I love 'Cranford' and have read it several times in the last few decades. 'Wuthering Heights' is a one-of-its-kind work that I admired, rather than liked, when I read it last year (although I do intend to read it again sometime). You've also got some intriguing books amongst your contemporary purchases. By the sound of the summary, 'The Offing' might well be the best of that bunch and I hope it will appear in one of your reading wrap-ups later this year. I've only made six purchases so far in 2022 - 'Middlemarch', 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall', Mansfield Park', 'Silas Marner', 'North and South' (which will be my second Elizabeth Gaskell work) and one slightly more modern work 'The Spire' by William Golding. The buying is the easy bit, of course, now I just have to persuade Mrs Two-legs and Miss Four-legs to give me enough undisturbed time to read them all before Christmas :-) Thanks for sharing your recent acquisitions with us all - take care, Brian.

Hi Brian - thank you so much for flagging that I had accidentally uploaded the wrong video for scheduling this morning. I really appreciate you letting me know. Technical glitch 😵‍💫 I've removed it now and put out a vlog this week instead. I will fix the modern classics video ready for next week 😀 I have Heard good reviews about The Offing. I have noticed a mixed range of feelings about Wuthering Heights. This week I got a second hand copy of Silas Mariner! I thought it would be an accessible way to try George Elliott. I hope you manage to get some good reading time in this week. All the best and take care

Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite classics. The Salt Path is wonderful, so humbling, I enjoyed The Wild Silence too although not quite as much.

So pleased to know that Wuthering Heights is one of your favourable. It's also really nice to find other people who really liked The Salt Path. I've heard mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it. I suspect I will feel the same about The Wild Silence because it was their journey walking around the coast that I enjoyed so much in the first book.

Thank you so much for the lovely, kind offer. I am not sure what I'm going to read for Victober. Going to see how my classics reading goes over the next few months. I'll put it on my list of possibilities. It does sound like a great book. Much appreciated 😃

Yes it's all based on the authors account of what they decided to do after they lost their home and savings and Moth got a terminal diagnosis. It had a lot to say about life in Cornwall and homelessness, which I really appreciated. They and their Drs feel the 630 mile walk and sleeping out in nature has been a huge contributing factor in slowing Moth's terminal illness.

I really enjoyed The Salt Path, especially listening on audiobook. I recommend it to a friend and she hated it 😐 I kept hoping my library would be get The Wild Silence on audiobook but not so far so decided to buy the second hand copy of the book. I hope you enjoy it too when you get the chance.

Used books from charity shops are the best. I've gotten spoiled rotten and struggling quite a lot when faced with paying full price for a book (even if it is worth it)

Me too. We don't have a 'new books' bookshop in my town but we have a great charity second hand bookshop. I have to limit myself going in there because I really do have enough books. When I do buy new books, I buy from independents but books have really gone up in price. The last new release book I bought from an independent was £9 for a paperback. The Wordsworth classics are affordable new so I was happy to support an independent by buying those. I mainly use my local library, which at least means the author gets some small financial recognition and supports an important local, community service.

I've just finished Black Mamba Boy. It was really good. I loved the writing style. It was really insightful about Africa during the 2nd WW. Harrowing at times 😥 Definitely want to read more by the author. Yes, I love researching and planning my reading, then I overwhelm myself 😂

Hello and thank you 😃 I have just finished reading Cranford and listening along with the same version of the audiobook. The book is really good. I think Gaskell is a great writer. I've managed to get cheap, second hand DVD of the BBC adapted drama series. I remember watching it years ago and really enjoying it. It's actually a combination of 3 of Gaskell's books. Something to look forward to in autumn/winter.

@@rebecca.reader Devon is a part of the UK I would love to visit. But our last drive back from Cornwall took 9hrs because of all the traffic and that was pre-2020. It puts me off going so far in our old, little car. I would love to live nearer the coast but I'm lucky to live where I do. The Yorkshire Dales is beautiful as well.

I would really like to be friends with the mischievous ladies on the cover of Cranford! 😂 I'm sorry to ask this on a comment but I'm not sure how else to go about it since you no longer have an Instagram to send as a message. I’m planning to make a video covering my favorite booktubers and of course you’re one of them! I’m not sure exactly how I want to edit it but I may like to include some clips of videos to showcase each of my favorites. But I would never do so without your permission. Would you be okay with me using a screen recording of one or two of your videos? If so, do you have any specific videos you prefer I used? And I absolutely understand if you are not okay with this. You will still be listed as a favorite either way!
