When did you first go to the library/get a library card?
How often do you use your library?
Have you ever had a late or lost library book?
What’s your favorite thing about your library?
Are you a browser or do you plan what you’re taking out?
Name a book you took a chance on from the library.
What is the best book you’ve read from the library?
Have you ever taken the same book out multiple times?
Have you read a good book that takes place in a library?
Have you used your library’s ebook or audio options?
What is the best library you have been to?
What would make you use your library more?

Thank you for tagging me! As you know, I love my library and I was, in fact, there yesterday, picking up a book that I had reserved for a buddy read. I’m so grateful to my mum who took me regularly to the library as a small kid. It’s such a wonderful service! 😊📚

Great to see a video supporting the invaluable contribution that libraries make to our communities. I don't use libraries much nowadays as I tend to buy any books that interest me. It's the collector instinct in me I guess - I also do postage stamps but that's enough of the embarrassing confessions from me. In my earlier years, though, I used our village library (Ainsdale, near Southport) on a weekly basis and always had two or three books on the go. It was a decent-sized library with a reading room, a reference room, a childrens room and the main adult room - all now gone, sadly, as a consequence of local council and national government cuts (Oh how I wish I had an 'angry raised fist' emoticon I could insert here!). I'm glad to hear that your own library is thriving, though, and that you're making exceptionally good use of it. I probably have enough books in my own personal library to see me through my remaining reading years but (whisper it quietly!) I do still sneak in the occasional additional volume (or two or ...) when the wife and the dog aren't looking! Thanks for another interesting and thought-provoking video; best wishes, Brian.

That's such a shame that your old village library was closed down. I know the village libraries in my area all rely on the support of volunteers to keep running. A house full of books helps to make is a home in my eyes. My partners Dad collects antique stamps. I think it's wonderful to be passionate about something that you collect it. I have a collection of vintage ladybird books some mainly from the 60' & 70's. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks Brian. Take care

I have always loved libraries and wherever I live it’s one of the first things I join. Librarians knew me by name as I was there so often.where I live now in Australia it’s free and I can take out 100 items - I can also order take out and return to any library within the state. They also have great sales

As someone from the Netherlands I sometimes can't tell the various UK accents apart. I had no idea you had a Yorkshire accent as I have no idea what a Yorkshire accent sounds like. I know what a Scottish accent sounds like since recently as I started watching a couple of other BookTubers who are Scottish and talk about it. How nice you can reserve any book from the county for a pound! It costs more here if you want a book from a library further away than the local area here. Oh yes I am always careful with my library loans too. In the Netherlands you have to pay for a library subscription (except for children under 18 I think), so that could be a reason here but I don't know. Some libraries make you pay a certain amount of € per book, gladly mine doesn't and it's just the yearly fee. How cool, I don't think they deliver to your house here at all, that is not a thing. I love my library though. Oh yes I love browsing at the library! The Stopping Places sounds interesting. I couldn't pick one best book either! The Reading List has a nice cover! It sounds like a nice concept for a book! Ah I was just about to put it on my wishlist, and realised it was already on there. I didn't recognise it because the cover on my wishlist looks different. Glad you enjoyed the book! I can't listen to audiobooks. I prefer reading paperbooks over ebooks too. My library does have ebooks, but I can't read them on my Kindle (it's not a supported format), so I'd have to read them on my phone (or perhaps website) which I find very uncomfortable reading. Wow 13 million printed items! Oh wow how cool there is a virtual tour! I will bookmark that so I can explore it some time. I have been to Oxford on holiday once but we didn't go into the library I think.. hmm. Yes I use my local library, but I only go every now and then. In 2015 and 2016 I went very often, but nowadays, especially with the pandemic, I like to also read some of my own books and not feel the time limit as much (I'm also a mood reader) so I go every now and then.

There are so many very different accents in the UK for such a small island. It's such a shame you have to pay to use your libraries. Our libraries only delivery to people who are house-bound. It's a wonderful service. All supported by volunteers. The Reading List was a nice was read. Such a shame you went to Oxford but didn't make it to the Bodleian. It's a really interesting place with lots of history.

Libraries are neat, though I feel like they must not all be created equal. The library where I grew up drew strange district lines for folks who lived in the country, so my folks and I would have had to pay quite a lot for a library card. So my love of libraries is largely from afar.

  • @bookinwithdebra

    @bookinwithdebra

It definitely sounds like not all libraries are equal. Such a shame that libraries have to charge people quite a lot. Not sure how it all works where you are but we all pay taxes on our earnings in the UK that then pays for local services like libraries. So I suppose we pay in a different way.

"What is your favourite thing about your library? Free Books" Is anybody saying anything different to this? I don't often use my library, they're not very good with New Releases, especially with BookTube being so international my reading tastes don't match their selection very well, also I feel that they're targeting youths (which is great, but not so great for me).

Yep free books 😁 It doesn't sound like your library is very good for your reading tastes. My library at county level has quite a good selection of translated fiction and authors from around the world. I think mine has a good balance between children and YA but definitely has more books for adults.
