An intriguing selection of books - I hope they give you an interesting reading journey throughout Pride month. Sadly, I have no 'Pride' books on my list for June - in fact I only have two books, as I tend to read in first and second gear only and really must try to progress to using the turbo-drive option at some point in time!. I've just started 'The Fortnight In September' by R C Sherriff and have Hardy's 'Tess Of The D'Urbervilles' awaiting my attention as this month's classic read. I'm sure you'll be covering all your books in future videos and if you have an especially favourable reaction to any of them, I'll have to see about sneaking an extra item onto my TBR list later in the year. Thanks again for continuing to take the time to record, edit and upload these videos; they're truly appreciated. Cheers, Brian.

Thank you so much Brian. I am planning to actually read less in the next few months. There are so many books that I want to read but I think I am trying to read too much sometimes. I have enjoyed reading just one book at a time recently and it's been a good, immersive reading experience. I'm interested to hear how you find Tess Of The D'Urbervilles. I have not read any Hardy as yet. I always appreciate your lovely comments - thanks again and I hope you have a great reading week.

So wonderful to see some love for On The Red Hill, it’s such a fantastic book 😍. A Portable Shelter is amazing, I love Kirsty Logan so I would literally read anything she writes, and this collection is great.

Fab recommendations! I just re-read The Night Watch and loved it! Trans Like Me sounds good, added to the tbr. Also The Proof of Love, I noticed the sticker comparing it to Sarah Waters and Daphne du Maurier, I need to read it! Loved The Henna Wars, I just read Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating which was great. Felix Ever After is also on my TBR, hoping to get to it very soon!

I really enjoyed The Night Watch. I really appreciated reading a book set during the 2nd WW that was from such different perspectives. I would definitely recommend Trans Like Me for a broad overview. It gave me a lot to reflect on and a very good counter balance to all the 'media debate' in the UK! I hadn't noticed the sticker in the image. I haven't read any Du Maurier so couldn't comment on that. It's a little while since I read Proof of Love. I did really enjoy it and it's slow paced. I am not sure how it compares to Sarah Waters, except for the LGBTQ main character and it's historical fiction. Maybe don't get your hopes up - possibly just a marketing ploy 🤔 I don't think it's Sarah Waters standard. I've heard so many good reviews about The Henna Wars. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Felix Ever After.

The Night Watch sounds so good. I love reverse timeline aspect. When he lists all the queer historical characters in the end. It was so powerful. I love life long stories and Red Hill sounds so good for that. Good luck on these books 🏳️‍🌈

Thank you. I got into reading The Night Watch. I listened to On The Red Hill on audiobook and it was a great combination of memoir, gay history in the UK and nature writing. I hope you are keeping well 🙂

I was startled by the description of a 1976 setting as “historical fiction.” Makes me feel old! Set 50 years ago is generally the cut-off for fiction to be considered historical and 1976 is approaching that mark. The alternate criteria is that a novel is set before an author’s birth and I guess Catherine Hall may be young enough to qualify in that way too.

Catherine Hall was born in 1946. I hear what you are saying about the criteria for historical fiction. Like you say, it's nearly in that bracket. When I read the book the setting felt much earlier than 1976.

I bought a Sarah Waters for Pride month but haven’t managed to get to it yet - Tipping the Velvey. I loved Fingersmith - she is a great writer. Lots of wonderful suggestions here. I really enjoyed Felix Ever After last year.

You're welcome. I am still waiting for Pride: The Story of the LGBTQ Equality Movement from the library so it might be carried over to July. I've been patiently waiting for more than 6 weeks. I have not read that much non-fiction generally this year so hoping to read more in the second half of the year.

Silly-but-sincere question: Is *Trans Like Me* by chance a nod to *Black Like Me* ? I've not yet heard of a non-trans guy or gal dressing as someone gender-nonconforming in order to report how they were treated, but that would be an interesting premise?
