I have yet to get a Catt that survives but I always wait a few weeks (months) after the first repot and then de-pot them and take out all the old (dead) roots so the new roots have a clean place to grow in (at that point they usually go down for no reason) The one I have might make it this time 😁

Jambo sana, rafiki yangu!! 😘 it was a beast of a morning, but I am glad that I did what I got done, however, my body is already tell me 'go to bed!' 🙄😂 thank you, for commenting, and watching! Ok, so THIS ONE, is Fredclarkeara After Dark 'Black Pearl' (just in case the video did not specify it clearly 😬) and yes, you are so right!! Catasetinae that grow vigorously are one of the most insane and fun orchids to grow... I have to keep up! Same with my Stanhopea 😆 which, start my day off fantastically!! Even under his blanket, I knew he opened his first blooms because the fragrance that was coming out from underneath his protective blanket was so strong, cinnamon sugar... I had to add some cinnamon into my coffee, I was that inspired! 🥳 orchids are my nemesis! Know that I appreciate you for being so enthusiastic about them as well. I love meeting you under these circumstances, and your comments are always such a warm wave of kindness mixed with a wonderful dose of motivation! I first realised ruby roots were aesthetically desirable when I got into Neofinetia (Vanda...if I must) falcatas and realised that there are orchids that are admired for so many other features of the plant than just blooms. They're so lovely 😍 👌. Lol 😂, I love the poetry. ❤

😍Denise!! 💐 hi!! Hope you are having a wonderful day already 🫶🏼 root tips are my kryptonite! Honestly, I love the blooms on the orchids, but show me a whole bunch of root tips, and branching at that... from older roots, years old, and I go gaga!! 😅 I am NOT a fan of calling Neofinetias Vandas... and this orchid happens to have Neofinetia in her parentage, so if someone asks me I specify that because to say that it is a Vanda hybrid, honestly... NO! 😅 Meanwhile, she is a no ID. I bought her as Rainbow Forest 🙄 it was nursery in Germany that had fantastical names for their orchids... as if someone just went around while high on something and labelled orchids. I got Stan the Man from that nursery and he came with a name that I cannot even remember. It was Michael McCarthy who gave me the correct hybrid name 😅 I needs me a quill if I am going to pursue my poetry career 😂 have a great rest of your day, lovely lady!! Debbie 😍💐hello you wonderful human being 🫶🏼 she is a no ID vanda hybrid that has a neofinetia parent, just to be specific, even though Neofinetias are now vandas 🙄 but because of the shape of her blooms, and the fragrance, I wanted to distinguish between which vandas I am talking about. I bought her as Vanda Rainbow Forest, but that is not her real ID. Some viewers have said that she is Vanda Peaches, but I disagree. This one is much more vigorous in growth, how many fans she grows and the bloom spike count than Peaches is. The bloom shape is also different from Peaches. So, a no ID, but definitely my summer basket of goodness. This is her in bloom in 2022. Since then she is focussing on more root growth and additional fans, so this year, I can see 5 spikes, which is less than the previous years when she would give us 9 - 10 spikes. However, I appreciate the new fans and all the wonderful root growth and I am certain that, in a future season, we are going to have abundant spikes / blooms again. 🥰 hope you are having a wonderful day and thank you so very much for your kind feedback 😘❤️🌸

😍Robi💐HI! So good to see you!! I hope you had a beautiful weekend, got some good R&R and that your Monday is off to a great start already 🫶🏼 'tis true, 'tis true!! This proves that orchid roots do not need a specific pH to do well, as long as the water is clean and pure, free of any toxins.... just that these roots will not take up any nutrients. That is up to me to provide the orchid with them, by misting the exposed aerial roots. But the container is filling up nicely. I even got to weave more roots in there, that were aerial but had now grown long enough that I could direct them into the water without any tension 👍🏼 I happen to LOVE this container 😆 than you so much for being here, commenting and watching! 😍Hi!! 💐 so good to see you!! I hope you are doing well ...even though you are facing some serious challenges with your conditions and your orchids 🙏🏼 I hope that you are coping! Know that, I hear you and feel your 'pain'. I have that with my winters, and while I have not given orchids away because of challenging conditions, when some leave the collection for reasons of not making it, I do feel sad, but a sigh of relief comes over me because, I don't have to be so anxious about 'those' anymore. I hope that, as your collection is narrowed down to the ones that you can keep, that you too, will feel a sense of relief. BeBe 😍💐 I was exhausted afterwards 😂 my body was screaming... STOP!! 😆 I am so glad that this video gave you a nugget of intel to take into your collection and repots. The direction of the leaves is super important. Even if it doesn't really suit what we would like to achieve aesthetically for the visual of the orchid in the pot, if we want to avoid the 'stress' of the leaves either having to adjust to the new direction of light, or they don't do that because they are not the type to change their direction like phals do, then its a judgment call we have to make. This turned out pretty good in that regard, thankfully, because this orchid really does need to get her strength back in the coming months, so that she can handle the coming winter. So far, so good 🤞🏼 your time, your support, your friendship and encouragement are very much appreciated, BeBe! 😍HI Denise💐 Thank you so much for spending time on the patio during the live stream today! I so appreciate you 🙏🏼🫂 again, I am sorry to hear about your spike!! I saw that you also mentioned that no major structures were broken, and wanted to comment on that, but I was paying attention to Fernanda. Goodness me, lady! 😓 I bet that hit hard. I won't go on and on about it now though, I know the feeling and it is not one that keeps needing to be reminded about. 😘 whereas the fern.... Be Gone! 😂 thank you, for everything! 🙏🏼 you are truly special and I am blessed to have you here supporting the channel (and me) the way you do! Have a wonderful rest of your evening, and well... I am watching the penalty shoot out England v Switzerland 🤞🏼🫶🏼❤️🌸

😍Debbie, hi 💐 she is a tough cookie, and thankfully I have enough of her giving me the chance to not loose her completely. She does NOT like the cold temps in the winter though. There is no toughness in her for that time of year, soooo methinks she will do better this coming winter, and I will definitely not have her where I had her the past winter. I so appreciate you taking time out of your Saturday to jump on to the patio and check out the ongoings we had during the stream 🫶🏼 so appreciate the support as well as you watching this video! I hope you are already having a great day with all that you have planned, falling into place beautifully 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Laelias, brasilaelias, sophronites are labeled now as cattleya. I believe you have a hybrid.

HI Fabio 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank you so much for watching and commenting! I appreciate your time and the information you provided 🫶🏼 a hybrid... that is good to keep in mind, thank you so much! I have to ask the question that I am now asking myself, do we now have to call rupicolous laelias rupicolous cattleyas? 🤔🫣 I have a hard time calling my cernua cattleya, as I do with my purpuratas. I have to get used to doing so, because it is the right thing to do when posting videos. Laelia is such a pretty name though 🥲 really appreciate your comment, thank you! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and once again, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Does the water in the pot get algae? Do you change the water often?

😍Hello Val! 💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank you for being here, for watching and the support that comes with it! Truly appreciate your time 🫶🏼 the water does get algae in it after a long long time of the mask not being rinsed out. Usually takes 8 months for algae to accumulate to a degree after which I have to clean the mask out. When the reservoir has been fully absorbed, that is when I fill it up again, after flushing the pot through first. During the summer, with the size of the reservoir, I am filling it up once a week. During the winter, the reservoir stays dry and all I do is flush the pot to keep the gas exchange going. Please let me know if you have any further questions. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and once again, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 hello meine liebe Freundin!! I could really use the help after a repot like this because I was in a lot of pain afterwards... but, this batch of leca is now in storage containers, and I have moved on to the next orchid... that leca is now boiling and will be sorted before the stream later today... I am working toward being able to just sit with mi amiga ❤️ thank you, for being willing to hang out and help with the clean up ... if only!! And thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼 looking forward to later today, even though I am nervous if I am going to get you to join in etc before the stream goes live. I am always nervous, but now with a guest joining, it is amped up a litte 🤭😬 have a great day, and hopefully a great time on the patio later!! 🫶🏼❤️🌸

What a fantastic repot you have there you have done a real good job doing bit by bit and not rushing yourself. Hope she survives for you now and she’s happy in her new pots. Whether today is cold wet and windy. Not very nice out. We will catch you very soon.❤❤❤

😍Hi Andrea 💐 I am glad to get this one checked off the list! I have so many others that need the same treatment, but I cannot do them day after day after day, because it really pushes my body to the limit 🥲 after this repot, I was in a lot of pain BUT, I managed to clean everything up and into the storage containers by the next day. Onward and upward!! I am sorry that your weather has deteriorated 😔 it is super windy on the patio today, so I am very busy running around like a chicken without a head on! Hope the wind dies down for the live stream later on 🙏🏼 thank you so much for watching and for your kind words 🫶🏼 I so appreciate you ❤️🌸

You know what? I have been down this rabbit hole too many times and I'm glad you feel the same way. I HATE the mess that exists with the rupicolous Laelias. It's so hard to make differentiations - especially because individuals can differ in tiny details. Look at purpurata - so many flower colours, same species. My guess is that it is in the orchid nurseries' best interest to keep the confusion going because that way they can sell so many more plants than if everyone just followed a single standard nomenclature.

HI Matt 😍💐 I am glad that I have a partner in crime when it comes to being consumed with wanting and looking for answers! I cannot do it all in one go though, because it gets so frustrating. But, at least the supposed crispata bloomed, which made one piece of the 'puzzle' fall into place. Now, I am asking myself, though, should we call rupicolous laelias, rupicolous cattleyas? Many are cattleyas in that group 🙄🤪🥊 I have a long way to go to get my rupestris to bloom, but... even those structures do not look like what the supposed 'crispata' has on my patio (as per Cattleya Orchid Source) 😆 still, going down rabbit holes, time permitting, I find it just as fun and frustrating at the same time. Vielleicht wird eines Tages der Groschen fallen 😂 thank you so much for watching, Matt! I hope you are enjoying a relaxing Saturday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids Yeah, they've all been put into Cattleya in 2014 or so, right? I just wish there was a clear list of all of the known rupicolous Laelia species and their synonyms. It really should not be so hard, but apparently it is. Van den Berg made a list in his paper but it is still completely unclear what's the synonym for what. I have a Laelia marxiana that I have not found on any of the lists. Orchideen Lucke has Laelia cruziana for sale now - never heard or seen it either. Both of them are supposed to be yellow so yet another crispata/flava/flavasulina/flava var. sullina/...? My rupestris is also fighting right now. These imports have been more miss than hit in the last while...

I have the marxiana and cruziana on my personal rupicolous laelia list which I have compiled for myself when I first started buying them for my collection. I have a ? next to the cruziana though, just to make sure that I know to look for it as a possible synonym of others I may already have, for when the time comes and I get to buy the next load of ones I have missing. Rupestris is the longest in dire straits of all the ones that arrived on the patio. She is an OG in my collection and I am well impressed just how resilient of a fighter that little one is. Currently growing roots and I hope that these will be stronger than the ones she finally grew last year. 🙄😅
