    😍 Sandra, hi 💐 she is doing what she does... and I get a little weepy when I stand back, stop and stare 🥹 just magical!! Oh, trust me, when I was writing down what I do as a routine for all the winter resters, I thought, this sounds crazy!! But, I don't think about it anymore, it just happens. If it wasn't for the request, I would not have been so acutely aware of how these types of orchids are just go go go and fast paced with what I do. Same with my bensoniae, that one gets the same as this one. So, I do not expect anyone to do exactly the same as me, but I did not want to tone it down either, (for fear of sounding over the top)... I was asked how do I feed this orchid and after putting it together I thought 'people are going to think I am nuts!' 😆 oh well.... 😂 thank YOU so much for watching and for your time leaving a comment, Sandra! Always so good to see you 🫶🏼 have yourself a great weekend as well ❤️🌸

    😍 Sir Rick 💐 how very kind of your to also watch this video, thank you!! 🙏🏼 I appreciate your encouraging feedback very much. When I sat down and actually wrote down what I do for this orchid, I thought... 'really?' 😆 crazy! But I don't think twice about it. It only came to realization when I had to actually put it into a care card.... I love this orchid so much, and I have other winter resters that get the same routine, so it is not as if I have to mix the nutrients exclusively for her, because that would then be doubly nuts 🤪😂 have yourself a wonderful weekend as well, Sir Rick!! Dare I say that the blooms on the aphyllum look even better than the Phal schilleriana. 😯 Seaweed seems to be the best booster at the beginning of the growing season. The altenation of different nutrients with the flushes sounds like a good idea for any orchid. I finished setting up an 8 tier plant stand today with LED lighting. I have it on top of an old TV stand in front of a western facing window.

    😍 Hi Joe 💐 I agree! This orchid... it brings a tear to my eyes when I stand in front of it, and just stare at it. The beauty is insane! The sparkles when the sun hits the blooms and they move in a light breeze, all of it! Just mesmerisingly beautiful 🥹 as you say, the different nutrients are a good way of providing for any orchid, however, it is not as fast paced with potted orchids as it is with these winter resting ones. That is what makes these types of orchids so exciting. Its just go go go and watch it grow. Like Stanhopea, or Catasetinae, or Ansellias. However, having these kinds of orchids on mounts, makes it even more satisfying because there is no need to wait for any media to dry. So much fun! Sounds like you have had a busy and fun day!! I loved getting new shelves and putting space in place. So satisfying and I wish you very happy growing 🫶🏼 thank you so much for being here, Joe! For watching and your comment. The support is .... thank YOU!! Have a great rest of your Friday... feet up and enjoy the fruits of your labor ❤️🌸

    @@NinjaOrchids It's funny that you mentioned how it sparkles because I noticed sparkles on the new roots of my young schilleriana. I think any plant that is outside needs less fertilizer than a potted, indoor one.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    2 ай бұрын

    Yes! They sparkle as well... when the velamen looks like its white peeled off stuff, before it turns into velamen proper and has that uniform silver metallic sheen to it, the little speckles of velamen look like someone sprinkled silver glitter on them. It's amazing! Depending on the humidity levels, outdoor plants need to be fertilized in such a way that dry air doesn't evaporate the moisture too soon, whereas, with higher humidity in the air, I push my fertilizer or supplement levels to higher amounts. Had some superb days last summer, where I went all in on high humidity days without having to worry about anything burning because the roots stayed wet for so long. Even more fun 😆 85% humidity and higher... I am that mad scientist and add another scoop! 😂

    I started with Rainmix to get rid of the seven bottles of mono nutrients which was a lot of work and now I have to go back ? 🤣I just started with seaweed to get roots started on basically every orchid, and it works. Getting them dormant is a bit of a problem because of the temps in winter (i don't have one) My Aphyllum and Anosmum are a good example, I've never had them blooming or growing well. maybe a few new bottles is a good idea

  • @NinjaOrchids

    Hi Ynse 😍💐 I know what you mean! Having all these different bottles flying around can be a little over the top! I have the arsenal, as mentioned in this video, plus silicon and that is it. This orchid does not need silicon, so its one less application. 🤪 I know that the steady temperature can make it complicated to get the dens you mentioned to do what they are capable of. However, they should be able to grow well even if they don't bloom. I mean, of course we want the blooms, but it is strange that they are not 'growing well' 🤔 my anosmum isn't growing well, because it came in that order from the German nursery that shall not be mentioned here. I have canes with only 2 viable nodes for blooms ... I have another dud from that order, but I am going to keep trying until it has totally depleted itself. 😤 really appreciate you watching, Ynse! I hope that you are already having a great day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    I haven't fed any of my outdoor orchids at all this year. You know what? Doesn't seem to matter to them at all. The Catasetinae are growing nice fat growths without one drop of food. I'm seriously considering cutting feeding down to almost nothing on the indoor orchids too.

    Don Miguel 🥰💐 well... there must be magic in your air or... your presence makes them perform the way they do. I know that if I did not fertilize anything on the patio, I would be in more trouble than I am now with some of mine 🥲 the cheaper option would be favorable for me, trust! 😆 keep me updated on your lesser feed because, I am super interested how different climates can make a huge difference when it comes to orchid care. I mean, I never did anything for mine in Kenya, a) too young to care and b) they grew anyway if it wasn't for the monkeys doing damage on occasions. As far as I can remember, they grew really well which is what made me a learn a lot with my second collection when I had to grow orchids in pots. I was surprised they weren't doing the same thing 😅 really appreciate you watching, thank you so much for the support! Hope you are having a great day already 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    😓 horrendous!! Absolutely horrendous!! And they are not out of the woods yet. The area where I went to school, Kijabe, got hit hard. I thought it would... those slopes along the train track are not made for so much rain. I have to say one thing though, and this is not important to the catastrophe happening there, to see that red dirt, the rivers run red, the lush greenery, even seeing the train tracks that are up on the side of the mountain that back my high school campus, I was homesick all over again. I know that culvert that they were talking about. One of our secret hideouts back in the day. They are in for a tough time getting all that sorted out again. Naivasha, Nakuru... well, everywhere really! I hope that there won't be a big spread of disease, and well, all the poisonous snakes are now everywhere as well! This is a nightmare and will be for a while, the rainy season is not over yet 😓

    To refresh your memory, about a month ago I asked about storage of fertilized water and how long it can be stored without losing efficacy. I have done an, admittedly, unscientific tracking of storage over the past month. It appears that the TDS changes LITTLE from week to week, over the month. However, the pH DOES drop about 20% week to week. I have used a "pH up" solution to return the pH to my desired levels, each week when I water/fertilize. Does this sound like a reasonable practice? I only need to store my fertilizer for a month, at most. Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts.

    Hi Bruce 😍💐 yes, I was hoping to hear from you at some point, and thank you so much for your comment! Awesome 🙌🏼 much appreciated 🫶🏼 I would say that what you are doing to up your pH to the levels you want, is absolutely fine. Just to confirm that, you are storing your batch in a cool dry place, yes? Not out somewhere were the sun / heat has any effect on it with temperature swings? Also, when you say that your TDS changes a little from week to week, by how many ppm? TDS drop or higher as per possible evaporation of the water in your batch? I am glad that things are not radical, to the point that it does not work for you to store your batch because it makes life much easier for you, clearly, to do it this way. I forget the name but if I dig deep they had the name oak in them but did not look like classic oaks. They also bloomed in different colors and before their leaves for the season had as yet to flush. It was the most beautiful thing I had seen. A tree in bloom with not that small blooms either, contrasted by the darker bark, backed by the fresh green of the woods showing spring growth with the dappled sun filtering through. I was just mind blown. BUT, the winter conditions... no Sir, they would be the end of me, unless I would not have to move from indoors and can just keep the fire, hot chocolate etc going. Then, I can enjoy the snow .... only from indoors 🤪
