I probably would have done the same thing by leaving the spike. If the orchid was in recovery for that long, I would have thought it would have been healthy by then. It's too bad we have to make these kind of decisions, but it's for the best.

@@NinjaOrchids proper grief is still important and necessary in the process of committing those strong and difficult lessons that are not so happy. But I’m sure you caring as much as you do(as is obvious in your plants happiness and your thorough videos) that you don’t need anything other than a sad orchid to teach you anything. I’m sorry things went the way they did and knowing better definitely can make the hard things harder to accept. But you can’t win them all and without these reminders, I believe that humans have a tendency to forget the seriousness of losing our loved ones whether it be plant person or animal. One day you will most likely save an orchid because of this specific reminder in your memory. (If you have not already) and !! You will save other orchids you do not even know through the information on your channel. I find it endearing that you’re so hard on yourself about this as I can relate to that. But just do not let it be something of a habit. Or something to hinder you from being the great orchid grower you are. While she bloomed well, I always had issues with some fungal spotting she came with. So, if you have a healthy plant, and you have blooms... there is not need to cut a spike because the orchid is capable of dealing with the blooms. This video is only to show what can happen to an orchid that has been in recovery, doing much better, allowed to bloom for the time the blooms last, and the energy expended was too much 👍🏼 not at all comparable to a healthy orchid 🥰 I hope that this puts your mind at rest, 🌸🥷🏼 Nina San! Yes, cutting spikes not only allows the orchid to rest, but will trigger the hormones to get a move on and start another growth. Either it starts relatively quickly, OR the orchid gets to conserve energy. I look at her several times a day to see if the decline has at least stopped. She got a shot of calcium nitrate in her reservoir and I hope, I really really hope that she will forgive me! If not... ce la vie!! So sorry that this happened with this orchid. Hope that you will be able to get it to recover. I firmly believe that "weak" plants shouldn't be allowed to flower. In bonsai, for instance, we tend to remove new growth in favor of strengthening the entire plant and root system. Think that method will carry over to orchid growing in the removal of flowers. I believe that you will try everything within your power to get this plant to survive. On another note, I did decide to leave the crumenatum on the mount, as you suggested. I've moved it to a little higher light as well. We'll see how it does. The orchids that I have moved to new pots with small lava rock, a wick and saucer are really doing very well. I am beginning to see new growths on plants that have been "sulking" for the past couple of years. This is such an encouraging development for me. May you have a pleasant, peaceful and happy day in your orchid garden. Take time to enjoy a hot tea and watch the birds and wildlife.

You are absolutely right that I need to mention this more, and I have in the past, in specific videos.... only 3 during the course of my channel, but I have made mention of my situation, and the videos were not well received. People express their understanding and support, show compassion and kindness for which I am so so grateful. It took me a while to get used to even saying please like the video, and subscribe! Only in the last year did I pluck up the courage to say that in the videos... then I got comments that pointed out 'me begging' which I am NOT 🙃 Being honest about a situation seems to backfire, so I am very hesitant to put that kind of pressure on anyone. The reality is though, if nothing were to change with the numbers as they are now, I would need 30k subs to make a loose end meet here. I don't expect anyone to pay me anything, I know that if the channel grows, the adsense will take care of things, but in order for that to happen, my channel has to grow... being in Europe, starting in 2020, this channel did not have the right frame to get off the ground (shadow banned because of EU internet legislation getting stricter since 2020 and new laws have been implemented on a yearly basis since for all big social media platforms) YT has so many other demographics where they are not as restricted in their operations, the EU is of NO interest to them... After all my research as to how to get my channel to come into the algorithm, that is the only conclusion I can draw (also from feedback from other channels, not orchid related, that have been on the platform longer than me, with 60k+ subscribers.... they noticed a massive drop in their views since 2020, and their channels have not returned to the previous performance.) Anyhoo... It is important for me that YOU know just how much I appreciate your kind words, the encouragement which supports me mentally 😘 thank you so so much, Suzi! Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! There may be something else going on with this one, but still, I had 2 years of nursing it out of the fungus situation, not eradicated, but at least the leaves were cleaner for longer than they had ever been before, and then I do this ....! Let's just say, had I cut the spike and then this happened, I would have been moaning about the flipping 2 weeks end April, however, I think that the energy of that spike, it was too much. Now... I really do NOT want to loose her, but if I do, I hope that whenever I have another similar situation that I never forget this example and be all complacent! This sucks, BIG time! Its freaking me out that the bulbs look just like my oerstedii, the leaves did the same thing, but nothing was touching this orchid, as most of the collection was already outside. She was top shelf (hot air rises and if there were some warmth indoors, that is where I felt she was going to get any warmth there may have been in the air) ... the oerstedii and her bulbs, same appearance 😤😞 meh! Let's see what happens. I don't think she will be long for this world, but... yeah! Oh well!! Thank you so much for watching, Michael 🫶🏼 I hope you are waking up to a fantastic day ❤️🌸

Liz, hi 😍💐 I hope so too!! Thank you for also hoping for this orchid. I suppose I would 'deserve' to loose this orchid after knowing full well that I said I was going to cut the spike and then... got complacent 😤🤦🏼‍♀️ we shall see! Meanwhile, I need another 48 hrs to not feel as though I was punched in the gut 😬 really appreciate you watching this video, thank you, also, for your comment 🫶🏼 have yourself a beautiful Sunday, lovely lady ❤️🌸

You have some beautiful arcade plants and we all have our problems at the moment. I’m facing lather lock don’t be doing too much in my plants at the moment. Very many leaves growing on them and one has got a spike on it but you will believe it the oldest that I have and it’s coming out in flower hope it will come. It’s the only one I got And I have a very small synopsis and I’ve had it for three years flowered when I had it and haven’t done anything since all it seems to be doing is growing roots and leaves very healthy say that but no flowers are tied it in different places light not light warm temperatures that it off but no nothing seems to help any questions on thatthanks for the update of your video but we all have our problems at the moment with our plants. You have some nice flowers. I don’t.

😍 Andrea, hi 💐 I am sorry to hear that you are lacking blooms, please do not take it that I am complaining with what I have doing well. It is important to admit mistakes and the consequences of the mistakes, not just gloat about successes! I hope that your orchids have an amazing growing season, and that you will be majorly rewarded with blooms in the fall 🫶🏼 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady, I hope your day was beautiful 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Ciao Nina.

Ciao Luciana 😍💐 Hai assolutamente ragione!

😍Desire!!! HI!! 💐 it is so good to see you!! Goodness me! I have had you on my mind for a couple of weeks now and was hoping that you were ok and by the sounds of it, you are! I hope you are enjoying the work 🥹 wow!! Thank you so much for commenting! I was 'always' looking for your pic / avatar, and here you are with a completely fresh look... beautiful!! 🙏🏼 maybe your orchids are still not 'there yet', Desire! I know that is not so encouraging to hear, but you are doing something very very right because they are growing what they need and should grow, so... consider this... they are building up energy to get ready to be big enough to bloom and support blooms 👍🏼 it took me 6 years to get an orchid to bloom for the first time this year. 😘 thak you so much for watching this video, lovely lady! I sincerely hope you are doing well and having a beautiful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

🦒❤️ So sorry to hear that!!! Sometimes, no matter what we do, does not work as antecipated 🥲 Btw, did you go livestream yesterday? Although I had activated the notify me button I did not get any notification so far!!! I could've used the link but as I was relying on the notification, I got distracted with the time. When I remembered it was already too late. So sorry about that 🥹

FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good afternoon, meine liebe Freundin!! I won't finish this comment in time to still stay good morning 😆 I did not cut the spike.... if she had declined after me cutting the spike prematurely, then at least I know that I did right by her by cutting the spike. Now? I am just very mad at myself for NOT having done what I said in several videos 🤬 face palms over and over again! I did have the stream, yes and it is sad to hear that the notification did not go through. Even after all the time that the live was scheduled ahead of time 😞 but! Thank you for activating the notify me button and for your feedback. I blame YT! 😡 but, it has finished processing and will be up for replay at 1pm your time. At least you can scrub through what you want to listen to 🤪😅 really appreciate you, vecina favorita! I hope that you are already having a beautiful SUNday 🫶🏼❤️🌸
