    Lyn!! hi 😍💐 still fangirling when I see you here 😆🥳🥰 appreciate your feedback so much, thank you! There are sooooo many species of Dendrobiums, they had to do something to sort them into some form of 'system' for the genus to make sense 😆 I hope that this video helps break down any of the confusion that hearing all these types come flying at growers, can cause. Really appreciate you watching and again, your ever so encouraging and kind feedback, and your time watching 🫶🏼 I hope that you and Hans are already having a sparkling Sunday 🌵🥰🌵❤️🌸

    HI Barbara 😍💐 it is so good to see you! I hope that life has been treating you well and that spring is giving you everything that this wonderful time of year has to offer! 🫶🏼 Hibiki falls under the section Pedilonum (not mentioned in this video, otherwise we would still be watching it 😅) as the parents are both in the section Pedilonum, Hibiki is a primary hybrid and would not be a hybrid between 2 dendrobium sections. I love Hibiki, and mine wants to bloom, but this year, I am not allowing it to do so. I need it show me that it wants to grow better than it has been doing because I am still wary of a fungus it got last year. So, we shall see how it does this season without being allowed to bloom. Please forgive me if you have already watched this video and I am assuming you were looking for a care card for the section it falls under, which is not included here kzread.info/dash/bejne/eGp-qcptn5Tcgdo.html here is the care video of Hibiki which has proven very successful for me over the years since the video aired. If it weren't for the fungus last year, I would not have any issues with mine. As we know, Dendrobiums hate anything pesticide / fungicide so, the recovery is slower 😊 thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to catch up with my videos! Truly appreciate your time / feedback and the support that comes with it 🫶🏼 wishing you a beautiful day, Barbara 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    😍 HI! 💐 There are only small nuances of care preferences and if your conditions fall in the range where they all kind of meet up, then you can treat them all the same. Which is awesome because it takes the 'confusion' out of the equation. To have all these sections would give the feeling that they are all different in care, but in actual fact, not really (in my opinion) so ... I appreciate your comment, just in case someone watches this video and feels a little overwhelmed. Your comment comes in clutch 👍🏼 thank you, also, for watching! Have yourself a wonderful Sunday ❤️🌸

I've changed lighting, location, fertilizer. Winter no fertilizer. Their kicking my butt. I don't spray anything on the leaves. I'd love to spray copper😮 but you know that's a no no. Hello Nina ... I think I've mentioned before that most of my orchids are Denphals (Bigibbum). We are currently in the dry season - which will soon end; I can't wait for the rains to start. Although quite a few of them are shooting and rooting like crazy. in spite of the drought, I water every other day - the heat is killing!! However, the Vanda Miss Joaquims are in full bloom with no end in sight. Thankfully our water has a good pH balance. Thanks so much for all the Dens tutorial. Take care and be safe.

    😍💐 Hi beautiful lady living in paradise 😎 your dens know that the rains are coming soon and getting a head start! If the rains were to happen too early, then the new growths may be under threat of rotting out, so they are starting sooner, in anticipation of the rain, so that when it comes, they will have grown a little more and the structures have toughened up a bit 😃 My papilionanthe is also starting to spike, a couple of weeks ago I saw the spikes and thought, nooooo tooo sooon!!! 😎 I will only get 2 spikes, but I am happy that she can survive in the conditions she has to deal with!! Thank YOU so much for watching 🫶🏼 I hope you are having a beautiful week ❤️🌸

    9:40 Really interesting tip about deciduous dendrobiums. The leafs will grow back and then you'll know what to do differently next time. 😊 13:43 Would the Formosae category include the tobaense or cruentum? They have the black hairs and are from southeast Asia. 14:14 The kingianum is supposed to be a very easy to care for cool growing Dendrobium from Australia. I have one since February, repotted it, but nothing so far. No new roots or other growth.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi Joe 😍💐 yes!! Same with catasetinae... if the leaves get burned because of sun, oh well 🙃😃 yes, toabaense and cruentum belong to the formosae section 👍🏼 and I find kingianum to be easy growing. I got some very tiny keikis a couple of years ago, they took a year to get their grow on, and only year 2 with me did they start to perform. So, give your's time. If it is of any help, I consider mine established and acclimated, and it has not started growing any new growths just yet. Consider the same may be happening for your's. As it is a new arrival, give it time. I don't see that it needs a full year to acclimate, but you will get the best response out of your's starting next year. Seeing as I started with tiny keikis, you have an established plant, your's should not take as long. However, keep me updated and let me know what happens in the coming 4 months. It may take that long for a new growth to start 👍🏼 if sooner, then all the better, but it may take that long! I appreciate your support, here Joe! Always wonderful to exchange orchid chit chat because of your super interesting comments 🫶🏼 thank you!! ❤️🌸

    @@NinjaOrchidsThe Dendrobium Peng Seng opened its first bloom today and it has nine more to go! 🥳🎊 This is the one that was losing some leaves due to cold temperatures it couldn't handle. It has been repotted and it came with a lot of good roots. It's the first one that has bloomed for me, but I only have one other one, the Kingianum which is also a new orchid in my collection. It was interesting to see how the buds developed. They get larger, droop, color forms, there's then a slit in the bud, and then it opens.

    This is a FANTASTIC video. A great reference point for growing dendrobiums. You did well to intersperse the care guides into the video. Must have taken a tremendous amount of editing. The final product is SUPERB! Great for use in an orchid presentation. I was surprised to see that I have orchids from almost every group that you describe. I do have a question for you on Den. crumenatum. I had mine growing in a hanging basket but found it too bulky. I moved it to a mount. Now I am wondering if the plant would be better served potted (for its water needs). I'm interested in hearing your opinion. Thanks for another great video production. Stay safe, healthy and enjoy your lovely garden.

    Hi Pat 😍💐 thank you so very much for your kind and positive feedback on the this video! Yes, it took a hot minute to put it all together. My main hang up was that I do not have dens in 2 of the sections I was detailing and without that, I thought the video would be a flop. So, your comment, thank you! Very encouraging 🫶🏼 My back appreciates the 'massage' of your positive response, as there were many elements to create and put together, so that eased the spasms 🤗😅 as far as your crumenatum is concerned, I have the exile and aurantiflammeum, which I find is very similar as far as the structures are compared with the crumenatum. (remember I have a very dry climate) I have the aurantiflammeum in a pot, because it is larger and I thought that it would need more water, it is not performing as well as I thought it would. It is in lava rock only in a semi hydro set up, sooooo, my exile on the mount is livin' la vida. Growing long skinny canes, and if there is an orchid that we can describe as growing like a weed, the exile is, while the aurantiflammeum isn't as happy. Yes, that one struggled with thrips a couple of years ago, but that was... a couple of years ago, I am thinking it would do better mounted, however, where to put it? Especially in winter. What I want to suggest with these 2 examples, is to leave your's on a mount. Yes they want a lot of water, but the daily watering, if you can accommodate that, is plenty for them, and on days when possible, a double watering does no harm. I hope that I could be of help with these 2 examples of orchids that I have with similar structures and growth habits to your crumenatum. Let me know if I have raised any concerns as opposed to helping 😬 thank you so much, again, for your kind comment and for watching this video! Hope your Friday was beautiful and wish you a great weekend 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Thanks for the info, Nina! I've always experienced low temperature struggles with my Den. Phals. • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi Denise 😍💐 low temperatures and Den Phals do NOT mix (long term) a glitch in our growing matrix is not going to do much damage, but it really needs to be a one off in order to not weaken them. When I say I can't grow Den Phals in S'ern Spain, it sounds weird, even to me, but the temps do drop below 20ºC for 6 months of the year, so it's not that crazy. I learned the hard way. I am so glad that you have one that is doing well for you, sometimes, that is all we need! To find that one 👍🏼 your policy is the smart and it will guarantee a lot more joy in growing your orchids! Just wanted to update you that it is doing very well!! It looks like we will be blessed with 2 spikes this year! Just one question, as always 😂, one of the leaves of the canes seems to have developed a fungal issue: It has black spots speckled on the leaves, however only one cane has this issue. Hi Shmuel 😍💐 thank you so much for the feedback on this video, I truly appreciate the kind words 🫶🏼 I am so happy to hear that your Den Phal is doing well, that is great news and I appreciate you letting me know 🙏🏼 One leaf?? I highly recommend that you remove that leaf all the way down to the cane, and then mist the orchid with Hydrogen Peroxide to hopefully stop the spread. I have had to do that with another den of mine, many months ago. No product stopped the spread of the spotting to other leaves, so it was a radical step, but for me, the safest. I removed all the leaves that had spotting, almost left the orchid bare, but new growths are growing clean. Now I spray Hydrogen Peroxide on that den on occasions and so far, so good! 👍🏼 really appreciate your time, Shmuel! Enjoy the beautiful blooms of your Den Phal 🥳 I love these orchids, but will have to settle in the realization that until I cannot provide the warmth for them during my winters, I will not have any in my collection!! Have a great rest of your Sunday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    OK, I would say there is something wrong with your anosmum. I'm not going to say F, but I am pretty sure it is F. The canes shouldn't be shrinking and it shouldn't be eating that oldest cane already. So, this got me thinking about your variegated Den speciosum. Seems it has been a minute since we've seen it.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! I think you might be right! This one is just not growing as an anosmum should and it came with the worst orchid order from the worst German nursery that I have ever experienced... together with a confirmed F infected orchid, back in the day. In all these years, she has never come out of the gates. This year, I don't have any nubbins for blooms, which is fine, maybe a new growth will come at some point... its just very disappointing. She was supposed to grace the space next to the aphyllum. That was the plan, back in the day. I will not give up just yet, she is not in my way. I live in hope! My speciosum is doing well, stayed outside during the past winters, has matured another new growth... no blooms 🙃 I will have to remember to give it some airtime as proof of life 😆 Thank you so much for watching, Michael! Gots me some sun today, but the temps are too low for me... have some concerns about the orchids being outside, some I have just brought back in, but most of the collection has to ride the low temps out 🤞🏼 have yourself a beautiful day in FL! 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hello Nina. Do you think spatulata, antelope type, are more resilient that Den phalaenopsis type in therms of temperature? You advice 18C -30ºC for antelope. But do you know if it can go down to 15ºC maybe 11ºC? thanks

    Hi 😍💐 they ARE more resilient than Den Phals, yes! I can vouch for that because my antennatum has no problem with my winter low temps, whereas, my Den Phals threw a fit and they are no more! For 'safety' sake I always recommend to cover the bare minimum of low temps, when it comes to giving advice, however, here in the comments, I can tell you that my antennatum is handling low temps of 14ºC really well. Maybe it would grow bigger if I could provide the higher preferred temperatures, but it grows vigorously, blooms on the regular etc etc. So, yes, I concur, the antelope types are much more temperature tolerant! I would however, not risk lows down to 11ºC. I have no experience for that low and dare not speak on it 😬 I hope that knowing mine is ok with 14ºC helps you in growing your's if you have any already, or if you are planning to get some 👍🏼 just one thing though, I am growing a species, test the tolerance of a hybrid and see if it responds the same way. Maybe a parent in a hybrid is not as tolerant. For example, I have lost my sutkinoi (species) and Jairak Horn (hybrid) because they could not deal with the low temps. Just an FYI 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching and for your comment! Wishing you a fabulous Sunday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina. I have 3 den nobile. They are in lava rock but only one has a new growth I live in south Florida, they are getting bright shade,good watering under 80 degrees daytime and around 71 at night. What am I doing wrong? Ps I also fertilize every other week.

    😍 Guapa, Hola! 💐 you are not doing anything wrong... not all nobiles will do the same thing at the same time. I would like to ask, however, are they new? If so, how long have they been with you? Are they recently repotted? If so, then it may have stalled the other 2 a little bit. When did they bloom? Did they bloom? Are the species or hybrids? If you have a moment to let me know a little bit more, then I can pin point in greater detail, but from what you have written about your temperatures, watering, fertilizing and light, you are doing nothing wrong! 😃 thank you so much for watching this video!! Look forward to hearing from you when you have a moment, in the meantime, I hope that your Sunday is going to be superb 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    I’m in Central Florida, but directly on the Gulf of Mexico. We get lows down to around 5° C in winter and my nobiles thrive. I’ve heard that some winters just aren’t cold enough for them further south of here.
