Private Orchid Collection Patio UPDATES April 2024 | Week In REVIEW

#orchids #cattleya #dendrobium
A brief update on what all transpired during the 3rd week of April 2024. The glamcamping season is underway for my orchids, but there was so much more to this week than just moving 100+ orchids into their outdoor grow positions. The orchid shuffle is not complete, but for the most part, the hardest and most physically challenging part of this operation, is complete! #orchideen #orquideas #orchidcare #orchideenpflege #tips #tipsandtricks #tricks #exotic #plants

    🌸🥷🏼 Samurai Sherrii San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 they indeed ARE on the East Side!! Have already put the curtain down because the wind has a chill to it, so.... the next couple of nights are going to be a little interesting to say the least 😅 again!😅 and you are quite right about the being careful thing! That is what I am afraid of, dropping orchids without dropping myself, ok, while I hate when it happens, the other part is a huge consideration and a big no no! So.... hakuna matata and pole pole (slowly slowly in Swahili) reset, get things done and done properly, even if it takes more time 💪🏼👍🏼 to see Rick L back in action, is amazing!! Maybe one day I can get those kinds of views as well.... that is what I am trying to achieve, so he is an inspiration for me and many many others 😃 hugs right back at you, 🌸🥷🏼 Samurai lovely lady San ❤️ hope your Friday is already fabYOUlous! 🦒💝💐 My body hates it too when Mr weather does it, one day very warm and dropping 3 or 4 degrees on the next. I assume orchids don't hate it so much, giving them a chance to slow down and have a temporary rest 🙄 Your patio looks glorious with so many beautiful blooms !!! Very enjoyable to watch. Get better soon amiga mia 😘😘😘😘

    FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, meine liebe Freundin! I don't know wether I am coming or going! Is it my head that is struggling because of my body or is it my body that is struggling because of my head. 😓 anyway!! This part is done and while there is still a lot of work to do, I am going to have to pace myself even more. I was doing spring cleaning in the house, as well as the patio, this week. I thought I had it all broken down into small sections that would help me cope, but I miscalculated BIG time! 😵‍💫 I appreciate your watching, thank you so much for your time, support and above all, friendship! Guess who is headed for bed, soon?? Yup! The sooner I get to bed, the sooner I can get up and hopefully things will be better mañana!! You take care of you, vecina favorita and have a cozy evening 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Monica 😍💐 so far so good! We are almost there. Work has stopped because the temperatures have dropped 🙄, but now they are outside, I am going to have to bite the bullet and hope that everything will be ok. The most delicate ones will come inside again, but not the mother load. 🤞🏼I just can't see how having the orchids inside until the beginning of May. Crazy that we are going down to 53ºF in the last week of April... meh! Blankets, towels and curtains will have to suffice for the coming week. Pity that it is cloudy because I could really use the sun to warm up the terracotta to get some help. The indoor growspace sounds echo-y 😆 thank you so very much for watching, lovely lady! Don Miguel 🥰💐hola jefe! I hope that your day is already off to a great start when you read this! 🫶🏼 she does look better, but these kinds of dens... they attract thrips, mealy bugs and it is annoying me to no end! Still, she is still around, considering that there was nothing but a rootless rhizome left of her. She will get a makeover when the time is right. Of course some roots grew through the winter 🙄 and she probably won't bloom for me for a while, but... considering what she was like several years ago, at least we have come this far. I am kinda looking forward to orchids not being in bloom because the stress levels of buds not blasting or hoping nothing happens to a spike, well, I have to tell you, that I am so close to breaking that even that kind of anticipation is too much for me. So... just give me new growths, and new roots and I will be happy! While this is going on though, I am enjoying it to no end, trust! 😅 thank you so very much for watching!! Richard, hi 😍💐 crazy!! Freezing temps in Mid April! I remember that happening in Germany... I used buy flats of spring plants because the weather was starting to warm up, the garden centres were filled with color, so ... containers and borders were planted up with spring color and I was always told to wait until mid May because the temps can drop again etc etc. I did not wait! Why bring out all the spring plants, offer them for purchase, and then we should not plant them? By mid May I felt it was too late for spring planting 😅 but I get it! Especially this time of year when we are all so desperate for the temps to warm up!! I was gutted to see the 10 day forecast, which would require orchids to come inside again. I thought I was done! 🫤 today, I am not going to think about it. I am in so much pain, that thinking of the coming cold snap makes me want to scream, but who needs that in the neighborhood? 😂 thank you so much for watching, Richard! So appreciate you and your support 🫶🏼 have a fabYOUlous Friday ❤️🌸

    I hope that your night temperatures stay on the safe side! This time of year is so unpredictable. It’s pretty cold here in the UK , with a northerly wind that whips right through your bones! Hope you’re getting a bit of rest after all this action , brain fog is such a frustrating experience. You know what you mean to say, but there’s a lag between brain and mouth! At least that’s what I always find with my brain when my health is bad. Hope you have a lovely week ahead 💕🌺

    😍 Holly, hi 💐 so far so good! Not on the safe side, but I did bring the dowiana and the Chunyeah Goodlife inside, because ... not sure about them, even behind the curtain. It really is an unpredictable time of year, and I was caught off guard when I saw the next forecast updates. BUT, I am glad that I have done this because I was getting tired of waiting as well. Methinks even if overcast, they are better off outside as the angle of the sun does not come into the grow space at all anymore. 🤞🏼it snowed in Germany 😳🤯 I am getting some rest, yes, thank you! And thank you so much for your kind, understanding sentiment. You know the saying 'where there is a will, there is a way', well, right now there is a will, but no way 😤 so, rest it is and continue working on trying to optimize my channel in the hopes to get some reach, more eyeballs on my videos 🤞🏼 you also described the lag between brain and mouth really well, because, yes, that is exactly what is going on atm. My brain talks normal speak, but by the time it reaches my mouth, I am stumbling over words. Mucho frustrating 😤😅 thank you so much for your kind words, and wishes for the week ahead; wishing the same right back for you and what you have planned, that everything falls into place nicely 🫶🏼 thank you so much for watching ❤️🌸

    4:33 The Sweet Memory is supposed to be a really old hybrid. It's supposed to be really fragrant. I think it may be related to the Younghome Fragrance Love which I purchased and repotted recently. Bryan has the same one. 7:11 Nice color combination with the Phaius. It's too bad about the blemishes and aphids though. 9:00 Oh, the Rene Marques is still in bloom.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    HI Joe 😍💐 It is one of the oldest hybrids out there, yes, and it comes with a gorgeous fragrance that increases as the temperatures get warmer 🥳 mine isn't as fragrant because it doesn't have the ideal conditions, but the mere fact she made it through another winter, that is all I ask of these novelty hybrids, and I am grateful! These little fragrant phals, I have 3 and with the exception of the peloric ones, their colors look very similar. They are so delicious!! They easily knock the Sweet Memory out of the park when it comes to intensity of the fragrance. If I had to choose between Sweet Memory and these new fragrant mini phals, I would always opt of the mini phals. I know, they are not as fancy as a Sweet Memory, but they are so much more forgiving and potent when it comes to pushing out a fragrance, and that for me is a double win! The phaius looks really bad. I thought I would be ok in my climate with this orchid, but it is too harsh for her on the patio and she is too big to have inside. Last year, she was aphid free, this year, I have some but I am trying to stay on top of them, at least to ensure the ants are not going to stand a chance. It is possible that this buds which have yet to open, will be clean 🤞🏼the Rene Marques is one of the parents of this hybrid, the other parent is dimerandra emarginata. The Rene Marques itself has long finished blooming and this one always comes into bloom last. Takes a long time for the spike to develop and I know that once in bloom, the orchid can be outside, even if I see the spike starting in February. Long lasting blooms, and they add a nice touch in the corner down there. What surprised me is the Epidendrum multiforme already being in bud. That one usually blooms in June, but I already have buds now! Thats new 😊 thank you so much for watching, Joe! So appreciate your support!! And thank you for commenting, I get to wish you a fabYOUlous Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Loved the mini tour all corners have something blooming and if I had a blooming alley like that I would not get any work done. I have only 20 orchids of various hybrid species and taking care of them is enough for me. The collection you have is very impressive and must be very time consuming, take your time and do the projects which need to be done. Your health and well being is more important. For your Re-potting projects...have you considered UV treated pots?? They are much more sturdy and last many years. Bloomers for me this winter/spring were Phal Hsin, Catasetum Fdk Bakers Dark Hole, Epidendrum Red, Catt Pratumma and about 5 Hybrid Dendrobiums. Anyways from the roasting summer in India, take care of yourself and have a Lovely Day.

    HI!! 😍💐 It is SO good to see you!! I hope you are doing well 🫶🏼 your feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you so much for your kind words. Guess what? The orchids in the blooming alley have had the most attention because I just wanted to hang out there and enjoy the blooms and all the fragrances😅 any excuse I can find to now fuss there for other reasons, that is what I end up doing 🤣 such a relief to be in this phase of the year. I am so done with worrying when its cold and dark. Luckily, my set up really helps me with the work load. The lifting, cleaning, inside and outside is what does my body in. But yes, I am reached my limit with this week, I bit off more than I could chew. I thought that if I broke the chores down to different small bites, I would be able to get through without any negative effects. I was wrong. So, I am going to slam on the brakes, my head needs to realign. Hard to function through the pain threshhold and I do not want to be taking pain killers every day. 😵‍💫👎🏼 the pots that I bought came from a garden centre and are supposed to be UV treated. I am annoyed, because the large ones are expensive and my smaller pots last a good 5 years (when I don't sterilize them with bleach) and 5 years is a good time for a pot dealing with the harsh dry heat. But the big ones? They are inly 3 years old, so yes, I am well annoyed. I have been thinking of planting the cymbidium and phaius in large terracotta pots that I have, which are void of plants, being that they can take terrestrial conditions, a good draining mix. Maybe once the cymbidium is divided one part can go into one of those pots. 🤷🏼‍♀️ stay tunes, I have not made my mind up yet! 😅 Note to self: do not make decisions while dealing with brain fog! 🤣 You had a beautiful variety of orchids in bloom! NICE! your collection number to bloom ratio, is impressive!! 👍🏼 congratulations!! 🥳 thank you so so much for your kind words, once again, they are ever so much appreciated!! I would love to have a fraction of your heat sent over to me because the wind here has a bite to it today. Humidity is nice though 🤗 have a wonderful evening, and thank you for watching, Nilesh 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina, I killed my Phalaenopsis pulcra, unfortunately; I think it was my 2nd death lol. I was shipped a Phaius I purchased in Puerto Rico but the USPS crushed the box bad and it went to orchid heaven as well. Have a great weekend.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    3 ай бұрын

    HI 😍💐 this pulchra is in a league of her own, from the years that I have had her! First of all, I find her a hard candidate to grow in a pot, that is why I have not even attempted it and mounted her straight away. The almost 2 years she was in the nursery pot that she came with, showed me how her roots grow and well, the answer to that is 'they grow everywhere!' Potting her up would have been frustrating to watch and much harder for me to even think about growing her well. Also, a happy keiki machine, so the challenge is to get her to bloom. Definitely a wonderful species, but I have my work cut out with her. NOT temperature tolerant either 🤪 that phaius shipment! USPS should be ashamed of themselves!! That is insane and I am so sorry to read this sad news 😩 I hope that you find another phaius closer to home. She is a beautiful orchid and while mine does not look the part, that is conditions related, NOT the fact that the orchid isn't something amazing to behold with the right conditions. Really hope that you can find one closer to home 🤞🏼 thank you so very much for watching, lovely lady! You have yourself a fabYOUlous weekend as well 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Our weather here in the Midwest USA has been loco. As we say often in Indiana, you may get all four seasons in one week! Lol. Just curious, do you grow any other types of plants besides orchids? -Bennie

    😍Heeey!!! 💐 Thank you so much for being here and yes, I have been following the weather over in your part of the world... goodness me, what on earth?? I hope it settles down sooner rather than later. When I lived in Texas, I was so taken aback as to how a single day can bring so much mayhem into daily operations because of the weather. I am not used to those kinds of conditions, so... I hear you and I feel you!! I have one set of houseplants in the same set up as my orchids 😅 I used to grow a jungle in Germany, also in self watering with leca, and it was there that I had a huge garden which I tended to during all seasons. I miss gardening, but I suppose just as well that I do not have that responsibility anymore, because my body is just not having it anymore. If you have any specific questions about plants, please let me know and maybe I can be of some brainstorming help 🫶🏼 thank you so much for watching and for your continued support! You are truly appreciated and I wish you the best of days with wonderful calm spring conditions😃 ❤️🌸

    Lovely patio Nina! I love the Phaius! I think I need one of those. Do you think it will do well in Miami Florida?

    😍HI Melissa 💐 you have to have a phaius in your life, and it is going to LOVE Miami!! You can, as a matter of fact, plant it in the ground where you are at. No direct sun in your area though. If you can find a spot that had dappled sunshine all day, then you can plant it directly into the ground and it will form a gorgeous cluster, get bigger and bigger every year and in your conditions, it will hold on to it's palm like leaves, and not look as nasty as mine. It will also keep the dark green color, which is much more desirable than the light green you see with mine, kzread.info/dash/bejne/mm131KaritKdZKw.html this link is the repot of mine. Maybe it could be of interest for you to see what the roots look like, what it is capable of and in the video I talk about how to amend the soil / patch if it is planted in the ground. They are so beautiful when they have the ideal conditions, and you have them! 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady! I am trying to do better at commenting under videos I watch. Usually I go about my business, and have the video playing while I do that, and peek over to see what happens / blooms etc while I do stuff on the side. I don't comment, though, but I have to do better to support you and others, so... I hope I can keep it up 🫶🏼 really appreciate your support here, thank you so so much for watching! 🙏🏼 have yourself a beautiful Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Nina, can we talk about Silicon as a Fertilizer? It’s 41-43C right now with 55% average humidity. I water twice a day, as in drench it with a hose. But the plants are still dry a lot.

    Hi 😍💐 wow... you are really dealing with tough conditions atm. Not just for your orchids, but for functioning through day to day tasks! Incredible, make sure you stay hydrated as well, lovely lady 🙏🏼 if you are going to administer silicon to your orchids, then do not go above 100ppm, recommended ppm is between 25 and 50ppm. Even if you apply more, it is going to take a couple of months to have any kind of visual effect as it takes the orchids some time to metabolise it, for us to then notice any benefits. If you are going to add it into your water for drenching, foliar feeding, then do not go above 25ppm. Now, the reality is that, usually it is ideal to prepare the orchids for the tough conditions in our seasons, a few months ahead of time so that when the conditions arrive, they are armed and ready. But, no matter what we give our orchids, when the conditions get that challenging there will be signs of stress at some point. Harsh conditions have that effect. Same as with us, we can hydrate, make sure we have all the electrolytes and minerals in our system, but they are only there to help us through, we still feel sluggish and the conditions drain us of energy making us feel more exhausted than we normally would be. Same with the plants. We can arm them, give them what they need and it will carry them through, but if the conditions are persistent, then all we can do is help them cope until there is a break in the temperature. So, if you can, start with the foliar method as you are giving your orchids the moisture so regularly, no more than 25ppm and the pH needs to be no higher than 7. Know that, usually any product that has silicon in it, that will raise the pH of the water dramatically, so you will need to drop it down to the preferred pH range. Let me know if you have any questions, I am here for you and your 'chiddos! 🫶🏼 thank you so much for watching. I hope you are having a restful and relaxing evening 🫶🏼❤️🌸
