HI Lyn 😍💐 it is kicking off nicely on the patio now! I cannot wait until you get your beauties outside as well!! I have to get to tidying the perimeter though, which I dread. Its a chore with just me and my secateurs... and then my body rebels as well, so, my motivation will be to think of the top guns that need to go into that gap by the hedge and know that they are going to be so much happier to be outside again. As they should be 🥳 Mañana, though!! The benefits of living in Spain, mañana 😂 thank you so very much for your kind comment, your amazing support and your encouraging, motivating comment! Sir Rick, hi 😍💐thank you so so much for taking a moment to come and see what is happening on the patio, truly appreciate your time, your comment and your kind feedback, thank you 🫶🏼 we need bigger pots on the patio 🤣 they are getting hungrier and hungrier as well 🤪 I have lost so many orchids since I could not provide heat and light during the winters anymore, so, this collection is being whittled down to the strongest that can handle the natural surroundings, indoors and outdoors including the dark winter days when they are all huddled up inside without any supplemental light. The fact that I am getting some blooms... I cannot be more grateful. So, yes, I get tickled and emotional because I am grateful for what I have left and for what still performs against all odds! I love my Ansellias... they come from where I was born, so there is a lot of emotional attachment to them as well. Buffalo was my high school mascot and Leo my son's sta rsign. So, I had to have this orchid Buffalo x Leo .... no brainer to me and again, just so emotional when it blooms like this 🥲 Your words mean a lot to me, Rick, thank you so so much 🫶🏼 wishing you a wonderful week as well, amigo! Warmest regards to your beautiful camera lady 🫶🏼❤️🌸

HI Denise 😍💐 it is wonderful to be outside and getting some AIR!! I feel as though there are so many things happening during the winter months as well, but its depressing when the temps are chilly so it doesn't carry the same spark as now with somewhat warmer temps. I am still in double sweats and 2 triple layer sweatshirts though 😅 I have to be super careful with my back and it is easy to shed layers, stand in a draft and then be out of order for several days. My clothes do not reflect the season, but I am glad that my hands have stopped freezing 😆 I am actually going to have to make a count, Denise. Last year I lost so many, and recently I have also binned a few, so... I cannot tell you exactly, but if I were to guess, I may be around the 240 mark. Not sure. When I move them to the East Side, I will do a count 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Denise! I hope your Sunday was special 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Wow! And yet 240 doesn't seem all that many to us orchid addicts. I think that's a reasonable number 👍💖, but there is no denying the hard work that comes with a collection that size. I'm glad that winter is on its way out, however, there's still a chill about, so I'm putting off moving my collection back to our (unheated) conservatory - at least for another week or two. It gets nice and warm there when the sun's out and the light is amazing, but for the moment, they can relax on my plant stand inside since external temperatures are still cold at night and I don't want to risk bud blast or flower spikes stalling, or worse, dreaded cold damage.

Smart move!! (not to move them!!) 😅 I am itching to get my angraecoids out, but I have 2 more dodgy nights, so... besides, I have to clean their space up, so I am going to deal with that tomorrow and hopefully end next week, they can go outside WHERE they belong. The dreaded cold damage! I have lost a big chunk of a coilostylis which was close to a wall... because of the cold radiating from that wall! Meh! There is still plenty of the orchid left, but yes... that cold, no need to move your 'chiddos too soon ❤️

I love long videos, but the algorithm is ignoring me, so I am trying to do things the way YT suggests just to see if I have a shot to be 'found'. NO, I am not saying that you will be absent from your orchids for that long again, but it is nice to have some that come with a little grace when life gets busy 👍🏼 finally got the blasted bletillas to bloom 😂 they don't last long, the blooms do not open fully, but for me ... I can talk about them now 💪🏼 thank you so much for watching, Wingman!! Hopefully I will not loose any orchids this season 🤞🏼 I did not hurt a single one today, so, it was a good day 🤣🫶🏼❤️🌸

Hi Maria 😍💐 I am pleased to see that orchids are coping considering the conditions! I have leaf burn, cold burn to be exact, areas with cell collapse because of the temperatures and in some instances, new leaves from last year fail completely because of the winter temperatures but, for the most part I should not complain and I am just grateful that not more have 'left the collection'. You will see a video, when I get around to filming it, where even the cold temperature of a wall, took out 50% of an orchid. I think I have enough left to save it, but still... I am sure that your orchids are going to be just fine as they grow in your care, and you will not have to deal with conditions not being 100% 👍🏼 that is a huge relief when it comes to growing orchids 😃 I appreciate your feedback and your time watching the video, thank you so so much 🙏🏼 'tis the season to grow 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼 I hope that, since I wrote you last, your day as proven to be beautiful 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Do you know how many new growths I have on Dendrobium bensoniae? Zero. Twenty months after receiving it, still zero growths. I am now to the point that it isn't ever going to produce one, but you would think it would produce a keiki to save itself but not even getting that. I think you have some weeding to do in the Angraecum corner. And 'Buffalo x Leo' seems to be saying, "hey, if OG over there doesn't want to bloom, I'll give you all you could want." It sort of reminds me of a hyacinth bloom, with all the little blooms clustered together tightly.

Hi Nina. I was just watching the section where you mentioned aphids. They frustrate me because they sneak up when least expected. By the time I see them the damage is done, always on a brand new growth that I wasn’t expecting. Love the blooms of Christa Erdman, with that gorgeous yellow in the centre. Thanks Nina for showing us your blooming alley and all that’s going on, exciting times, for sure.

I have had aphids during some springs, that really appeared 'out of nowhere'.... even though I am on the patio a lot during spring to get orchids cleaned and flushed, I look at them often, have to schlepp them in and out... still... BOOM! There they are! Can't stand them 😅 pity that we are only going to get that single spike from the Christa Erdmann, but I am being petty!! Thank YOU so much for watching, lovely lady! I'm so jealous! Today in Virginia here in the US, it was freezing today. Still another week before I can begin to harden my orchids off at the earliest. And.. You have inspired me to make a horizontal moss pole/wall thingy full of dendrobium aphyllum (or was it anosmum?) so to speak that is like yours that you put all of your keikis on. I was deterred after remembering that I have to remember to water many moss poles already and one that hangs in the air that is large and wide would be difficult. But then I remembered after watching your recent dendrobium video that while I will not completely stop watering in the winter when it's inside, it won't be like the 4 times a week (at least) that I have to put bottles of nutrient solution on my poles. It could be much less. Can you tell me the dimensions of your dendrobium aphyllum/anosum keiki "curtain" that you are making?

  • @NinjaOrchids

Hi 😍💐 I saw that the US had another storm and even snow 😳 yikes! We had 10 days and nights of temps as cold as January and February recently, and are just coming out of that, so... I have trust issues with the weather, but wow, it is not as drastic as your's! aphyllum.... all aphyllum keikis since 2019. It is 2.6 ft long and kinda full but I still have space for the class of '24 methinks! It is 6 inches in width. I water the top of the curtain and let the water saturate downwards. I can understand the work load for many moss poles, but... sometimes 😬 even if the aphyllum only blooms for 2 weeks, it is so worth it! I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday and wish you warmer temperatures coming soon!! Thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Even if I tried to spray them in the morning, even when there is 35° it happens that I ALWAYS loose some orchid for cown rot. Even with oncidium if I spray them and the leaves rot. 🌸🥷🏼 Dania San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 it is so good to see you! I hope you had a wonderful week and weekend to make everything even more special for you and your cute family 🫶🏼 I am surprised to hear that, 🌸🥷🏼 Dania San! Especially at those high temperatures 🤔 meanwhile, what am I saying, I lost several new growths on my Dendrobium Berry 'Oda' summer 2023 because I flushed water through the pot from above without concerning myself with the new growths as it was mid summer. It was the first time that has happened to me, so... I learned my lesson. I rarely mist the leaves of my orchids unless my humidity is 30% and there is a strong dry hot wind blowing. I still get spotting on my oncidium alliance leaves though which is annoying, but those are environmental influences which cannot be helped. See if you can avoid spraying your orchids this season and observe what happens. Summer should be a season of everything goes, but maybe both of us have to take it easier on new growths 😬 thank you so much for watching! I so appreciate you 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Hi Debbie 😍💐 oh... these root tips are just to die for! They never get old 🥳 well, definitely my outdoor all year round growing conditions. That is top of my list now because of indoor space being so limited and challenging. Also, am I in the pursuit of specific orchids like the little rupicolous laelias, if I see one that I do not have, then it is 100% going into the cart. Also, Laelia purpuratas that can handle the outdoor conditions. Seeing as I tried them for the first time outside all winter long, so far, nothing negative has happened, they would fit that criteria and well, fragrance. Cattleya maximas, so many different opportunities with that species and also temperature tolerant. If you can grow outside... I am interested 😅 I do not know if that is of any help at all! If I were on the market now, I would not buy into the genus that are in the cattleya alliance that are bread for vigor and blooming multiple times / year. I find them to be like gummies, even though they come in all different colors, they all pretty much taste the same and aren't as rewarding as the species. AND they can be a pain in the derriere because if there is a single fussy parent in them, then 'good luck with figuring out which parent is making the orchid difficult to rebloom'. Species have their rhythm and in my opinion, are so much easier to figure out. 🫣 hope I did not step on any toes with this reply 😬 😅thank you so much for watching, lovely lady! Truly appreciate your support and I hope you had a wonderful Sunday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

As long as everything else is going well, that is the most important thing. It was really sweet of you to leave a comment, though, I appreciate that A LOT!! Hmm, I just left a comment but it isn't showing (even after I refresh the page). I hope you can see it, if not I will attempt to rewrite it just in case: Do you know how many new growths my bensoniae has? Zero. Twenty months after receiving it and still no growths, I am to the point that it isn't going to produce one. You would think it would produce a keiki to save itself but not even getting that. Looks like you have some weeding to do in the Angraecum corner. And 'Buffalo x Leo' seems to be saying "Hey, if your OG over there doesn't want to bloom, I will give you all you could ask for." It reminds me of a Hyacinth bloom, with all the little blooms clustered tightly together.

Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! I have seen that happen to me before with replies... I know I hit reply and the comment is gone. It is very frustrating. BUT, fyi, I have your first comment as well. So, thank you ever so much for being tenacious and writing it out again. Mucho frustrating but your support is just.... well, thank you, Michael 🫶🏼 nothing on bensoniae yet!! Wow!! Please please do not get rid of it 🥹 this is now something I am invested in and I really would like to know when it is going to come out of it's funk! I know it is frustrating, but please 😬 it is insane that there is not a sign of the wake up trigger! I have never heard of an orchid taking this long to come out of it's shock. I was going to tackle the deep south today, did not want to take a painkiller for that though, but my body is not responding to being without one. So, mañana! Instead, I have so much to do with the channel. I am trying to optimize videos for better SEO... somethings gotta give, and I don't want it to be me. And, I actually edited out the commentary for what I had to say about my OG. Which was similar to what you are saying: My OG Ansellia is not getting any designated airtime until she blooms, she is going to have to fight for her moment in the limelight 😅 that is what I edited out 🤣 LOVE the Buffalo x Leo! Living up to the name of these 2 animals that are 2 of the Big Five everyone wants to see when they go on Safari! 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Michael! Hope your Sunday is off to a fabYOUlous start!! 🫶🏼❤️🌸

It’s so nice to drop in on the patio, with temperatures on the up, I’m starting to feel at home again 😁🥰Have a blessed weekend Nina and thank you for sharing your collection with us. P.S- I love that little Dendrobium exile but it’s next to impossible to find 😂

🌸🥷🏼 Troy San, hi! 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 isn't that ansellia just a BEAST?? Totally living up to it's name. Buffaloes and Lions are 2 of the Big Five that everyone wants to see when they go on Safari, and well... this orchid is just perfectly named 💪🏼 the guanhaense opened it's first bloom today... I just can't!! When I say that I am going to cry because of the beauty of the blooms, I am not kidding 🫣😅 the temperatures are warming up... we have 2 more cold nights to go and hopefully I can get the patio set up for the glam camping season 2024. A LOT of work ahead, but I prefer this work to having to do the reverse. Keep looking for the exile. It has to show up somewhere again soon, because they are not difficult to propagate. Strange that it is hard to find 🤔 🌸🥷🏼Troy!! It is always so good to see you and I just want you to know that your support is so appreciated! Thank you so so much 🫶🏼 I hope you are already having a great Sunday ❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids It is a fantastic Sunday! I’m in elbows deep with repots 😂 but I love it. And the success I am having with lava rock is astonishing 😍🪴 I’m actually saving a Dracula from moss with lava rock and she looks awful still but is making progress. I can never thank you enough!!!!!! 🙌🏾 And I can totally relate to get so excited for blooms you just get overwhelmed with emotion and the tears begin.
