Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

#orchids #orchidcare #guide
This video offers a detailed guide on caring for the stunning Guarechea Black Comet orchid, addressing its price tag, growth habits, and blooming potential. Here's a breakdown for optimal SEO:
Keywords: Guarechea Black Comet, orchid care, orchid repotting, Leca media, high-light vs. low-light orchids, sequential bloomer.
Price & Value: While the Guarechea Black Comet can be expensive, the video emphasizes its vigorous growth and long-lasting blooms, making it potentially worth the investment.
Media & Repotting: The video showcases successful repotting from Coco Coir to Leca, a self-watering media.
Light Requirements: Guarechea Black Comet prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower winter light levels.
Blooming: This orchid is a sequential bloomer, producing multiple flower spikes with long-lasting blooms.
Fertilizing: The video recommends a conservative fertilizing regimen during winter with increased fertilization as temperatures rise.
Fragrance: Interestingly, the Guarechea Black Comet discussed in the video lacks fragrance, unlike its parent plants (Encyclia and Prosthechea).
Key Takeaways:
Guarechea Black Comet is a vigorous grower with beautiful, dark blooms.
Leca can be a suitable media for this orchid, requiring adjustments in watering compared to traditional mixes.
Light levels significantly impact blooming. Ideally, provide bright, indirect light.
This orchid can tolerate cooler winter temperatures but may require adjustments in fertilizing.
Bonus Tip: The video clarifies that the Guarechea Black Comet, despite its name, is not a true black orchid. #orchideen #orchideenpflege #orquideas #easyorchidcare #rareorchids #rare #tips

I like the color on it, I just can't bring myself to like the shape. I am glad that it is doing well for you. It actually isn't that expensive here, fairly typical price for a blooming size orchid ($30-$50). I know it has been available much cheaper around Europe but I don't think the US price is that outrageous. Especially compared to when Phal Mini Mark and Sweet Memory were first being imported and they were selling for well over $100.

  • @NinjaOrchids

Don Miguel 🥰 💐hola jefe! I remember that you are not particularly fond of the shape 😅 I have only seen one site in the US that offers this orchid around the $30 mark, the others are all over the place, with the most outrageous being $90. But, I am glad that you added that it is not that pricey all the time and a little shopping research needs to be done 👍🏼yeah, to hear the prices for Mini Mark and Sweet Memory... that is just exploitation! I don't know if I would pay that kind of money for an orchid, no matter what financial status I am in. I balked at some of the prices I saw here, if they were above 45€ 😆 I am a cheapskate 😬 and proud of it! Thank you so much for being here, for adding your knowledge about the lower price availability! Its very much appreciated, Michael 🫶🏼❤️🌸

I happen to be helping my aunt look after her Prosthechea cochleata and was looking for care tips as she's in hospital and I myself just happen to get my hands on this Guarechea Black Comet Orchid and in perfect timing :D I guess it depends on the breeder as mine is darker but of cause it shows purple in very bright direct sunlight and it does gives off very mild fragrance and only when you bring it near your face. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work :D

I appreciate that you commented, giving me the opportunity to express my gratitude for your time here 🫶🏼 I am going to send healing vibes to your aunt that she recovers fully 🙏🏼 it is a comfort to your aunt that she has you to watch over her orchid while she is focussing on her health and congratulations on getting a darker version of this orchid. I shall keep sniffing at mine, because, I am very surprised that I do not have a hint of a fragrance. But, I also have a maxillaria variabilis that is not fragrant, while others who grow the orchid state that maxillaria variabilis has a caramel scent. Mine does not and it is huge 😅 There is still plenty of time for my Guarechea to maybe develop a fragrance. However, if not, hakuna matata! She is growing well, and blooming... I am grateful 👍🏼 thank YOU so much for watching! I wish you a fabulous day and once again, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

First time commenter and new to your channel 😊 Thank you for the warm welcome 🙏🏻 Also thank you so much for the well wishes towards my aunt’s recovery 🫶🏻 I guess I’m lucky to get this particular one as it was from a previous owner who decided to give up the hobby and based off what’s already very limited info on this particular breed, it’s relatively new in the market and even from where I’m from(Singapore), I haven’t found this in nurseries nor orchid shows😅 None the least the fragrance is a little more obvious in the early mornings when I give it some water though very light and I have to bring it up to my nose to smell it. From what I have learnt from other orchids, the same properties are usually from cuttings as compared to some whom propagate through lab flasking which changes the properties from the exact clone weirdly 🤷🏻‍♂️ Hope this sharing helps and again thanks for your comment and keep up the great video and you’ve gain a new subscriber 😊

🫶🏼 I just ran outside to see if the fragrance was there. I usually get to this orchid around noon, so maybe you are on to something that the fragrance is evident during a certain time of day. I got nothing, but tomorrow, I shall check it out even earlier 😆 yes, it is true (and strange) that the same properties of orchids grown as mericlone will be transferred, but cultivating corms in flasks can have many different variations, results. Truly interesting... I suppose like identical twins, the DNA in mericlone cultivation is exact, whereas, there are twins that don't look like the exact image of each other. I don't know if I am even making sense 😂 hope that does not put you off being a subscriber 😂 thank you so much for subscribing and the support that comes with it. The Guarechea was pretty popular at one time, now, I am not so sure it is as readily avaialble. BUT the fact that you have something which is not so common in Singapore, that is special. Happy days. Sigh!!! Singapore!! where orchids grow curb side, on roundabouts and in the landscape... I think I would cause a traffic jam if I were to commute in Singapore 😅 I grew up in Kenya, so my orchids were all in the landscape. Growing in pots was a learning curve of epic proportions. I could yap away .... don't want to take up more of your Saturday evening. Know that I really appreciate your support 🫶🏼 thank you 🫶🏼

5:35 This one reminds me of the Clam Shell Orchid from Cuba. 🤔 0:40 🤣 1:55 I can see the Coconut Orchid in the background. I was recently having regrets not buying more than one to get a bushy plant. I'll see how it does first. It would be interesting to have the Tenufolia in the same pot as the Yamada. 3:13 Coco coir is probably good for a Zygo. It's one that I haven't tried yet, but I'll see how my new Miltoniopsis does this summer.

  • @NinjaOrchids

    @NinjaOrchids

    2 ай бұрын

Hi Joe 😍💐 one of her parents is that orchid, soooo good eyes 😉 Oh, when it comes to the tenuifolia, it depends on how long you have had your's. My findings with the tenuifolia are, that the first year she sleeps, the second year she creeps and the third year, she leaps! Just like when you plant a perennial in a garden. Mine took 3 years before I started seeing some substantial action and now I can't stop it. So, I have a feeling that you are going to be grateful, one day, that you did not buy a second one. I could be wrong though ... also, which one do you have? I have the more compact, smaller growing variety, so that variety grows slower to begin with. It is starting to show spikes, though, so, I hope to have a nicer blooming this year, than I did last year 🤞🏼Coco coir is great for Zygos!! It is kind on the roots for any orchid that has problems with root disturbance. Also, for terrestrials. If I were in a position to have orchid in organic media, Zygos would be in coco coir as it is super forgiving, and some of the smaller rooted oncidiums. Miltoniopsis and coco coir are a great match 👍🏼 thank you, Joe, for also watching this video! I hope your day is going beautifully for you 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids I have the Maxillaria tenuifolia 'Haupia' and it seems to be a normal size one. The roots are kind of the same as the Miltoniopsis, but the Maxillaria was packed in sphagnum moss so it took a long with the tweezers to safely unpot it. They're both in a mix of coconut husk/chips and bark, but the Miltoniopsis has a little more leca.

However, it is not that unpleasant either even though I what I am now going to describe is going to sound like I am some kind of weirdo. 😬 Hear me out, please 😅🙏🏼 what I am picking up is akin to the smell of odorized cat litter. There is an acrid smell of ammonia at first, and then a hint of perfume that tones the ammonia smell down. Please do not get me wrong, the cat litter resembles one that is well kept and well attended 😅 so, not too partial with the fragrance of this one, but I do really like the fragrance of the parents. Hi Rian 😍💐 just thought that I would mention the price for anyone seeing this orchid but is hesitant about getting one, in the US. With a price tag like that, well, it better be vigorous and worth the money, but buying something expensive blindly is a little sketch, imo. Considering all the selection the US market has, well, I suppose you are right, it may be more common of a hybrid here than in the US. If I were in the US, I would definitely divide mine and sell it for the lower end of the price bracket 😅 I have enjoyed the performance of this orchid. It is pot bound, so depending on how many new growths your's has, the size and if there is space in your pot, you can repot after 2 years or wait for the 3rd year. Keep in mind, though, that, with a pot bound orchid that is as thirsty as this one, when there is space in the pot, once pot bound, it is going to be even thirstier, and with that, I encourage a lot of flushing in between fertilizing, just to keep the gas exchange in tact for all the roots, so they don't suffocate. I hope that this helps answer your question and what you decide you may need to do with your orchid. Hope you are having a beautiful Saturday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

So HAPPY to see your video on this orchid. I purchased one this winter. I think it is currently potted in organic mixed medium and growing indoors. Should I repot it in a self-watering small lava rock medium or Australian tree fern bark? I bought this because I love the flowers and wanted to add a "rare" orchid to my collection. (As my collection has grown I have begun buying only rare orchids. That's my justification for an additional orchid in the "fold". LOL) I do have "luck" with encyclias. My Encyclia tampensis (a FL native orchid) is finally growing new sprouts since it was repotted in tree fern bark a few months ago. Your Guarechea Black Comet is looking GREAT. Perhaps mine will look that beautiful in a couple of years. Thanks for this video. It is extremely helpful. May you have a great weekend and enjoy your beautiful garden.

Hi Pat 😍💐 oh!! I am so happy that you have this orchid in your collection now as well. Truly remarkable colored blooms and I have nothing like it or similar on the patio 😃 congratulations on your find and like that you are honing in on which orchids now make it into your collection. Great stuff, being selective and then also sourcing the orchids! Very satisfying 👍🏼 so, what I suggest is that you choose the media mix that works best for your environment, keeping in mind just how thirsty this orchid gets. I filled the reservoir on mine 3 days ago, and today during the live stream, the pot was empty again. Ok, mine may be a bit bigger and more needy, but it does not take long for this orchid to get needy. I like the idea of small lava rock. To my understanding, Australian tree fern bark does not retain moisture as readily as lava rock would and small lava rock is even more water retentive than chunky lava rock is. Also, if I did not mention it in this video, this orchid produces roots like crazy!! So, when repotting go bigger in pot size than the orchid size. Think of it this way, your orchid could potentially look ridiculous in a large pot, because of the proportions, but you will not want to mess with her for at least 3 years, and that will give you all that time and possibly 4 years at that. If you would like to watch a video in which you can make a judgment call as to when it may be a good time to repot your orchids, based on new roots growing, kzread.info/dash/bejne/loJom8Vrg9DScc4.html here is where I repotted her, after having kept her in coco coir for MANY months. Thank you ever so much for watching this video, I truly appreciate it 🫶🏼 have yourself a beautiful rest of your weekend, lovely lady ❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question about potting medium on this beautiful orchid! I like your suggestion of selecting a larger pot for this orchid. And I will follow the suggestion of using the small lava rock in lieu of the tree fern bark for it. I have been using the cone type plastic pots successfully. (I've pretty much switched to using them exclusively with my orchids.) I was able to get an unnamed variety of the Guarechea near the time when I bought the Black Comet. I will probably repot it as well in the small lava rock and a cone pot. I find that the small lava rock is working much better than organic medium for my orchids here in s.e. Florida. The plants are producing much more new growth since the switch. Of course, this result makes me a HAPPY orchid grower. I have come to try the tree fern bark recently as so many growers think it is the ultimate growing medium for "small root" orchids. I'm not totally convinced that it is a better choice than the small lava rock for my plants. I am trying it with some phals, dendrobiums and oncidiums but not overly excited about it as a medium. I don't like using sphagnum at all. I find that it gives only the two extremes of totally wet or totally dry for me. So, that leads me to another question: Do you have a video in which you compare/contrast all types of growing medium for different types of orchids? Thanks again, for devoting so much of your time to communicate your thoughts about orchid culture with so many other growers out there.

The feedback you share after switching to lava rock, makes me so happy! 🥳 wonderful news!! Tree fern bark and or just a tree fern pot (as I have seen are sold in the US) are great if you want to leave your orchid alone and it can grow outside, through all conditions. It will take over the pot and root in, never needing to be disturbed. And that is important, because the roots will be so entangled in the tree fern that repotting damage is nearly unsurvivable. It also retains a lot of water, which in your high humidity climate, is not always ideal. At least lava rock will dry out at the surface to give new growths a chance, tree fern not so much. But, if I could get my hands on some like that, I would use them in my super dry climate as the water retention will be cancelled out because of the low humidity conditions I have. Before I forget, I am sorry that I may be confused... I don't know why I think that you are in Australia!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ you have mentioned time and time again that you are in s.e. FL, and I should know that by now. Something must have happened with my dyslexic wiring early in our exchanges here, that makes me still think you are in Australia. So, I have written this out, as an apology but also so that my eyes and brain can see the information and make the connection, hopefully to never forget it again 😓 my apologies. I did not like using moss either. Hence the failure of cultivating my speciality neos ... I have to keep my moss so wet all the time and within a few months it was so algae riddled, that I had to change it out 2x / year which, yep, not going to happen. Unfortunately, my experimenting with other options was not exactly successful, so, I hear you on the sphagnum moss!! Same here! I have 2 live stream seminars on the pros & cons of different organic media and inorganic media, separate streams from each other. I have another video, posted recently, on different root sizes that determine how much water an orchid needs if cultivated in a pot and to make it easier to assess the culture of the orchid based on the root size. So, I am not sure if you would be interesting in the links to any of these videos. I believe that they all touch on the subject but are scattered in the playlists. Let me know if you think that one of these, or all of them would be of interest to you and I will post the links. 🫶🏼 hope you are having a beautiful Sunday! Thank YOU so much for the support ❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids Thank you again! Yes, I would appreciate the links, unless it involves a lot of work for you. I will watch each one. I suspect that my current evaluation of the different media will bring me back to the conclusion that I have stumbled upon: the fact that the small lava rock is probably the one that will provide the most success in my climate and cultural conditions. Appreciate all your help and your videos and comments. I have been growing orchids for many years, but not quite as long as doing bonsai. I've been into that since the 80's and have a bougainvillea bonsai which dates from 1985. May you have a happy Sunday. Staying indoors here this morning as it is very hot/humid here today. At least they are forecasting a break from this current weather condition in the next few days. Stay safe.

I am so envious of your conditions 😆 AND, my eyebrows went up when I read about your bougainvillea! Wow! I graduated high school in 1985 😱 that must be some beautiful bonsai when it blooms! Wow!! Just wow!! It is super windy here today, I have 45% humidity and Stan the Man needs his 4th watering of the day, so... 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️ please let me know if my links were of any use at all. I have one that is scented. It won't fill a room but is noticeable nearby. Maybe it smells of honeysuckle? It's already been blooming for a month.

Hi Anne 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly a big thank you for being here, for watching and adding your knowledge / experience with this orchid. I appreciate that I am getting confirmations that this one does have a fragrance, just in case someone where to check the comments for additional information. I may just have a dud when it comes to fragrance. 😊 my other prosthecheas are intense. Some would say headache inducing, so, knowing now that this one is not as heavy on the nose is also a plus for anyone who likes a fragrant orchid but does not want to get a headache 😅 thank you so much for watching and your information. I wish you a fabulous Saturday and once again, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Mona, thank you so so much for thinking of me! It is truly a frustrating situation... I just cannot believe that more and more nuggets of my landlord's shenanigans come to light as issues arise in the property I am in, and now with the property his has opposite this one! How is it possible that 2 homes are connected to the same water supply? The fact that they have problems, should not affect this property at all, but here we are! 😡 the inconvenience is insane! And, who has a plumber come in on a Saturday, thinking that the work will be done on the same day? I mean, I am not being rude, but we are in Spain and people here value their weekend, their siesta ... spare parts needed, shops are closed. Just crazy and yes, my landlord is Spanish! He really should know better 😓 I am trying to do things here so that my daughter has a clear and free mind for her work. I want to be the friendly ghost so that she has nothing to do, nothing to focus on but her schedule and getting rested before the next day. So, I did some laundry by hand today with some of the buckets I have stored since yesterday. It is kind of a nostalgic situation because I am used to this from growing up in Kenya 😆 however, I am now not in Kenya, and I am paying rent to live in a property that is supposed to function as per what I am paying for. BIG difference! Not trying to moan at you, just explaining ... trying to take the circumstances in stride, but the facts behind what is going on have a lingering effect which make me mad. 😬 I appreciate your kind words, thank you ever so much! I hope that you are having a beautiful Sunday, Mona! 🫶🏼 off to water my Stanhopea for the 4th time today ... mucho windy here 😆❤️
