We had House Wren Birds nesting and breeding in a flowerpot in the wardrobe. This is now the 2nd brood in a year. Luckily the young animals are very safe!

Maybe to dry their down feathers? Some birds throw their weak babies out of the nest, and even worse, will have “extra” chicks to use as an emergency food source….eating it alive and feeding it to the other hatchlings. Hatchlings will also eat siblings, but usually only if it died. I learned this the hard way while watching a bird nesting my garage on a shelf between a box and an old cuckoo clock. I went to check on the babies one day, and was horrified to find one of them tangled in some kind of fiber from the nest. The fiber also caught on the edge of the clock, and the baby was dangling, scalp torn off so that the skull was exposed…. The body was ripped open at the tummy area, and all of the internal organs were gone. A leg was pulled off, and tangled in the thread too, dangling a little lower than the body. One morning, a baby was just gone from the nest. I didn’t see any body anywhere, so I assume they ate it and mom flew the carcass away. She likely tried to get rid of the other one, but couldn’t free it. I couldn’t break that little string either… had to cut it. Birds are probably used to predators eating their babies/eggs. A few species do seem to mourn by circling bodies for hours… most just move on with life.

Fully agree. It's a trend that came up like a storm. I usually watch video's with the sound off. Such a shame as the sounds of nature are gone as well then. And they are surely enough!!

Fascinating when it came to the actual nesting spot, she started bringing in the insulation materials.

We have a bird box 30 feet from our window. Have been watching them fly back and forth for days. I was busy elsewhere for the afternoon, came back and they were all gone. Thankyou for showing me this. Incredible 😊

Porque o filhote não engole a comida? Ele permanece com a boca aberta sem engolir...e parece que o pai ou a mãe precisam dar um " empurrão " pra isso acontecer 😮 Eles precisam aprender a engolir?
