Watch the heartwarming moment as an Eurasian Kestrel lays her first egg of the 2024 breeding season. It’s this pairs third successive season breeding in this box and we are hoping that they will raise another beautiful brood of Kestrel chicks.
Our Kestrel nest box is located in Blackpool, UK, where this pair has returned once again to breed. They were successful in the last few seasons, raising a brood of five chicks in 2023 and four in 2022. The first egg in the video arrived on the morning of 16th April 2024, and we expect her to lay between four and six, which is typical for this species.
The female returns to the nest to excavate a small cup-shaped hole before laying the egg. It takes around forty-eight hours for her to fully create the egg before laying it.
