Five Blue Tit chicks embark on a momentous journey as they leave their nest box for the first time. These tiny birds spent twenty days under the care of both parents until they were ready to fledge and fend for themselves.
This footage was captured inside our nest boxes during the Spring 2023 breeding season. A beautiful Eurasian Blue Tit pair moved in on 20th March and built their nest out of lawn moss and twigs. After fourteen days, the female laid her first egg, and she laid a new one each day for the following eight days, making a total of nine eggs. Only five of those eggs hatched, and we assume the others were infertile, which is quite common for these species. It took the five chicks twenty days to grow fully and finally fledge their nest.
