Watch how this female Eurasian Great Tit builds her nest up piece by piece to make it the perfect place to lay eggs and raise a brood of chicks. She does this all by herself, without help from her male partner, making it difficult work. The end result is rather spectacular!
Our nest box in Hainaut, Belgium, sees its second year of action, this time with a pair of Great Tits. Previously, we saw a pair of Blue Tits successfully raise a brood of chicks, but this year sees a different specie take over. The Great Tit started inspecting this box in early March 2024, and she started building her nest on 21st March 2024. The build took several days, and the first egg was laid on 31st March 2024.
Typically, these birds lay between 8 - 12 eggs per brood and usually only breed once per year, although several broods are possible in warmer climates in southern Europe.
