The Entire Process of a Bluebird Laying an Egg

Watch in real-time how this female Bluebird regulates her breathing and delivers this beautiful blue-coloured egg. This process shows how much concentration is needed, and the challenges they face once the eggs arrive.
Eastern Bluebirds typically lay a clutch of between three and six beautifully coloured bright blue eggs in the springtime each year. The formation of each egg takes around twenty-four hours from start to finish, and you can see in real-time the final stage of laying this egg. It may look uncomfortable to humans, as the female can be seen breathing heavier and heavier as the egg is about to arrive. She feels little or no pain during this process as her muscles help move the egg. Once the eggs arrive, both parents must keep close guard as many predators, such as squirrels and snakes, would not pass on the opportunity for a cheap meal.
