During the 2023 Spring breeding season, this House Sparrow pair were building a nest when unexpectedly, the female laid an egg. As the nest was incomplete, it was laid on the bare floor of the nest box and did not have any protection. When the male saw this, he immediately removed it, much to the female's surprise. Shortly after the incident, both birds abandoned the nest site and never returned. We struggled to offer an explanation for this and welcome your thoughts in the comments section below.
