While we know plastic impacts the wider world, we rarely see how it affects nesting birds. Our camera in Orust, Sweden captured when a Tree Sparrow carried a large piece of clear plastic into its nest, mistaking it for a legitimate piece of nesting material. You can see how it’s woven into place, along with the other material, as it creates an entanglement hazard for the birds and the future brood of chicks. We have yet to fully understand the true impact of plastic pollution on birds, but this serves as a shocking reminder of our impact on the planet.
