An intriguing interaction takes place between a Male Bluebird and his female counterpart. She starts bringing in nesting material to build her nest, but the male takes it out again. There are clear disagreements between them both. But why is this happening in the first place?
It’s not the first time this pair of Eastern Bluebirds have visited this box in Virginia, USA . They successfully raised several broods of chicks in previous years and are back again. Nest building typically starts early in spring, and this started on 19 March 2024. The female is the one who builds the nest. However, this video shows how the male is less than impressed with her efforts. She starts by bringing in nesting material, but then the male takes it back out again. Does this mean he’s not ready to have chicks yet?
