Meet Kitty and Blue, a Kestrel pair with a history of successful breeding seasons in their cozy nest box in South Yorkshire, UK. In Spring 2021, the anticipation was high as Kitty laid a total of six eggs, with the first chick hatching on May 30, followed by four others. Unfortunately, the last egg didn't hatch, likely infertile. Blue, the devoted provider, did an amazing job securing food for the growing chicks. By June 28, all the fluffy youngsters took their first flight from the nest.
Post-fledging, Kitty set off on her Winter migration, but, sadly, she didn't return the next year. Blue lingered for a while but, regrettably, he also went missing.
Now, a new female has taken over the local territory, though she's yet to find a mate, resulting in no breeding in the nest box for the past two years. Despite this, we remain optimistic, hoping for the return of a new Kestrel pair and the joy of nesting activities once again!
