Nest boxes often make a good roosting spot for birds during Winter. It can be difficult during this period as temperatures plummet and varying weather conditions threaten their survival. Birds do not hibernate, so finding somewhere warm and dry is advantageous. To sleep, most birds tuck their heads into their wing. This blocks the light out and also reduces their energy consumption. During the night, they can become disturbed and are often seen waking up and readjusting their sleeping position. Some even use these spots to take a quick nap during the day.
