I am fairly new here, am enjoying the knitting discussion. I like knitting pattern roundups, seeing your UFOs and FOs, gives me ideas on what might be a good next project. Most interested in patterns you have experience knitting for specific seasons and you're experience with them and advice. I haven't sewn in years, would like to, but there is only so much time in the day. Thank you for podcasting, I like your cosmopolitan approach and positive appreciative attitude.

Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting! String piecing is easy to do on fabric too, like linen. it just makes the quilt top heavier. I highly recommend the book The Art of Classic Quiltmaking by Harriet Hargraves. She is an excellent resource.

Another wonderful podcast. Congrats on your finished quilt. As a long time quilter, I too don't like paper piecing. I did learn a new technique involving foundation paper piecing with freezer paper. The freezer paper I use can go through my printer so the design gets printed on the freezer paper (no tracing). The paper can be used many times and there's no paper mess or waste. I use the Gypsy Quilter applique freezer paper if you want to research it. I'm sure there are other brands as well. Good luck with the next quilt.

This is my first time to watch your podcast. So enjoyable to see all your knits. I don't knit (never learned) but crochet a great deal. I like using fingering weight wool to create a more knit-like effect in crochet garments. It works although people think I am crazy because of the cost involved. It brings me joy so I will pay more. I am also a quilter. I used to teach. Remember that your stitches are unique and your signature on your fabric. You did a great job with you first quilt. I hope the second is a joy to create. String quilts are fun. Not really sure why you would need to foundation piece a string quilt. Once you start about 3 strips in the correct angle, it will take off from there. Enjoy the process! Have a great stay at the cottage. Sounds wonderful! 🧶

Hi Selma! Regarding paper piecing your quilt, I highly recommend giving it a try. It would be extremely difficult to get the angles exact otherwise and having the fabric on the bias, the fabric would stretch out of shape very easily. I paper pieced a complicated quilt once and traced my pattern on to tracing paper which made it very easy to tear away

Hi Selma! I’m behind on viewing but had to congratulate and thank you for all those years of sharing and inspiration. I’m one of those that has been watching since the beginning having come from the Two Tangled Skeins channel. Our group is planning to attend Rhinebeck for the first time since 2018 as well. Met you then and hope to see you again. ❤

This episode was jam packed with beautiful summer knitting! Would you believe I have attempted to knit myself a pullover but it’s still a wip. So through a Vogue pattern book for beginners I have started a basic garter stitch cardigan. It’s being made with super bulky yarn in green and red stripes. Hah! I’d say it’s a Christmas cardigan being knit in July. I hope to get it off the needles and maybe I can attempt a summer top. Thank you for the valuable information you share. I appreciate you. ❤ StitchedbyMimi

Hi Selma: lovely podcast as usual. I LOVE sewing on binding on a quilt, but I'm a long time hand stitcher. If more quilts with hand stitched bindings are in our future you might think about using a thimble. You could push the needle through at an angle a little easier I think. Using a thimble is a lot like personal preference in knitting needles. I've used many over the years and have found the leather ones more to my liking for binding. Just a thought. Also -- I think you were trying to think of the term "seam allowance." I am in awe of thinking about having knit 120+ sweaters. I have knit 5 but I'm learning! Take care.

What will power to touch and drool all over the yarns and then not make any purchases! But I completely understand, my stash is out of control. 😊 StitchedbyMimi

I loved this episode! You made me chuckle when you were describing your issues with pronunciation. My eldest daughter, who will be 30 this year, pronounces things phonetically as well. In her teens a character in her book was named Phoebe. She pronounced it Pho-bee. She insisted that one day she will name her daughter Pho-bee! 😂

I love your quilt ! Unfortunately it entails 2 things that I despise more than anything sewing and ironing ! I feel the same way about my watercolor painting. Sometimes when I paint , I feel as if I am cheating on my knitting. Luckily for me , I have a dear friend who quilts. I have 2 beautiful quilts that she has made for me. she also made a quilt for each of my 6 Grandchildren.

I sympathize with the way to much yarn in your stash. My goal is to get this down. Some of my stash is inherited from my mother-in-law. I now have plans for a sweater with monarch dove yarn and I wonder if it is 50 yeats old. I have not bought any yarn this year and have made 6 sweaters and have 2 more on the needles. Also have 5 more in my queue. I have also made a few hats, several scarves socks. Am pleased with the progress I have been making at using stash. My friends thought I should open a yarn shop with my stash. Ha ha.

I admired your Ranunculus (while knitting the Nila Top) and thought: that yarn looks really similar to mine. Looked it up. We're knitting with the exact same shade of Tynn Line 🙂 I actually bought it 2 years ago and I was really on the fence till I started knitting with it. I don't love how marled it looks in the ball. But it sure does even out (no discernible marl) when knitted. Strangely, your complementary yarn didn't interfere with my ability to recognize the Tynn Line.

It is funny, but I’ve been watching for so long that you feel like a friend. I wanted to confirm that the mode that was used for the last video was difficult for me to see as I am legally blind. Also reading out the winner’s’ names is helpful too! I think that you could have a future in reading bingo balls in retirement 😂😂. Thank you for all that you have taught me. I would never have been able to learn to knit without KZreadrs like you! I don’t love pattern roundups, but underrated designers, shops, funny knitting stories all could be fun. You are bright, beautiful, disciplined and always professional. 💗💗

consider making a string quilt, you can cut 12 inch muslin squares and sew fabric strips on the diagonal ( starting in the middle and working outward (stitch, fold iron) until the muslin sq is covered. these are later squared up and are wonderfully scrappy , especially when using random widths.

Your newest Ranunculus is very lovely! I look forward to an episode all about the Ranunculus as I've wanted to knit one forever, but haven't been a fan of the super over-sized design of it. Yours always seem to fit so nicely, though! Also, I believe you can use interfacing as a foundation for paper-pieced quilt designs as well. It helps to have a foundation to sew the strips on, otherwise the blocks will get skewed and not sew together nicely when you put your rows together. The quilt you showed was so beautiful and should be pretty easy to make.

Selma, you are one of my heroines. I truly admire your "strategy" for your crafty life to have a strategy and then let go, let it happen, let things come to "life". I am most sure that you can be very focused too and get things done in tight schedules. And it is sooo good to make a change where possible...My crafts tought me that too, only after i went in a job with creativity i learned that it does not work for me under pressure. Long story short...i changed job and craft with maybe a similar impetus and "yogic" focus and let go attitude...thank you for sharing your thoughts on that, it warmed my heart😊
