I really like the ankers sweater and the minimalist cable cardigan :)) currently, I am knitting the spill the beans sweater by drops garn studio, also knitting an i-cord on a mitered squares baby blanket for my grandbaby, and just started the sofie sweater top by drops... and now I need to knit 2 cowls for 2 girls bc I gifted my zumba instructor a crocheted cowl and her daughters love it! LOL luckily, I have some of the same yarn :)) God is good!

Loved the podcast and loved the Sting footage. I have a DVD of a private concert he gave at his home in Tuscany on 9/11. The disaster had just happened and rather than cancel, he performed. I think the world needed a little Sting at that point! It is haunting, but in a good way, if that makes any sense. I just added the Granit cardigan to my list. Exactly what I was looking for, and I can't wait to cast on.

Hi from Australia. Love ur podcast. My suggestion for BFL yarn is CABLES!!! As an example, if you compare Merino & BFL fibres (under microscope) the merino fibres are crimped, so has little zig-zags all the way along & both longer and shorter fibres in terms of staple length. BFL staple length and fibre length is longer and the fibre is coiled & forms a little spiral. Result is different properties for each and good for different things. Merino is generally soft and if a garment has cables as part of design, pattern/cables will generally soften as a result of washing/wear etc. BFL cabling is very distinct in comparison and will continue to attract/draw the eye. So my suggestion to you for your BFL garment is the Artisane Cardigan by Sandnes Design published in Sandnes 2308 DIY (Vol 1) held together with SG Tynn Silk Mohair (as suggested by pattern). Check Ravelry for pattern details. Whatever your preference, please take advantage of the properties/scope available when using this yarn. Looking forward to your next podcast and final choice with this project.

Great video! I like the second sweater. My daughter teaches ESL. She lives in Mexico. -She is Polish and Irish. She loves the Spanish language. We call her dictionario . She constantly tells us which spanish words are only used in Mexico. What words other Spanish speaking countries use instead of the word that Mexico uses. It's muy interesante ! I enjoy your videos , I live in NJ close to Freehold , Where Bruce Springsteen grew up. I really like Sting. I saw him in concert in96? . At the Garden State Arts center 20 minutes from my house!

I vote Ilya pullover. What’s on my needles - a fairisle vest for my husband (who promises he’ll wear it). It’s in a book I have had on my self for several years. Folk Vesttsd buy Cheryl Obnerle. The one I am making is Lichen Waistcoast with Palette yarn from Knit Picks in similar colours as in the book. I have a stash of yarn to make the same pattern in blues. That is all I have as active but so many ideas with the yarn purchased that I could not mentioned here. I have finally bought some samples of Holst Garn in Super Soft and I am making a scarf for my hubby too. I new love of mine. I purchased some Titicaca and I have a swatch done with some fine J & S cone of yarn I have in a denim color. So little time and so many ideas. And I’m retired. 😮 Just another fanatic knitter here in Ottawa.

Kim and Jonna are running a Petite Knit KAL, so you would be in good company with the Ankers. That being said, the Ilha looks lovely too and I have now added more sweaters to my wish list. Lol! The new yarns you mentioned look wonderful. I will pretend I didn’t see them- must knit my stash, must knit my stash, must knit my stash. Lol! Have fun on your travel adventures! Thank you for yet another wonderful episode. I loved the segment on trying to choose a pattern for your lovely wool. I go through this process every time I acquire new wool. I actually liked all your options and have a number of them in my 'favourites' on Ravelry, but I think I came down on the PetiteKnits "April" Cardigan, so neat and classic, or the Kate Davies "Sarkle". I'm sure whatever you choose it will be lovely. Best wishes from Australia.

I’m knitting my first Ranunculus! I remember seeing the Police perform in December 1980 in a circus tent pitched on Tooting Common in London. I don’t know how we weren’t all crushed to death when they opened the tent flaps to let us out at the end. No health and safety then. My feet didn’t even touch the ground - terrifying. Good concert though. 😅

All of your possible sweater choices are beautiful and would look beautiful in that yarn. But I think that the Ilha is so similar to the Ranunculus you are wearing that you should do one of the others. I know that the yarn weight is different, but you have quite a few ranunculus sweaters with a similar yoke, so if it were me I would do one of the others.

Sting still sounds great and must try and get to see him one day. I am knitting on 3 projects, a cardi Flower Power by Anna Johanna, for my sister, which has had me tearing my hair out. I have to frog all the colour work that I’ve have done as it looks huge😢 Not the patterns fault but my own. Also taking part in MKAL by Stephen West, and of course always pair of Vanilla socks to take along on outings. Think the Petit Knit jumper would look lovely in your EK BFL. Hi Selma. I'm currently working on a test knit for NZ designer Libby Johnson who has Truly Myrtle knitting patterns. This design is Coorie a shawl with a plaid effect from stitch detail & colourwork rows. We are heading into summer & I currently have the Ilha pattern at the head of my queue to make as a tee in a linen blend. Your Erika Knight yarn is glorious. My vote is the Ilha Sweater followed by the April Cardigan. Thank you for sharing some of the Sting concert. He still sounds the same all these years later. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Agree on the stripes, if I just knit without thinking that I have something to do when it is colourchanging time. It looks way better by doing nothing.. At least in my knittingworld. But then again I am completely flabbergested by people making big issues about purlstitches. Never had issues with pearlstitches. In hundred years there were no issues by purl stitches working flat. I would think, that people could consider they learned the purlstitch the wrong way, but that would be the easy way…..so probably not going to happen☺

I empathize with your feelings of joy and sadness, comingling at the Sting concert. I sense that I am in the same age range as you and I have to say that more and more I am seized by a kind of nostalgia that is more grief than anything else, perhaps because I feel the past so distantly and yet so viscerally. Not sure if it's an age and stage thing or a post-covid outcome... FWIW, I've been philosophically grappling with loss/death/decay my whole life (and my life is very lovely on balance, this is just how I roll). These days, however, that wave of sadness can sometimes overwhelm. xo

Right now I'm knitting the Koyamae by Joanna Ang in Nutiden Önska and Kidsilk perlrose. It's a joy to knit, because it feels so squishy, cuddly and fluffy. I've already knit the Ilha in a dark caramell colored wool I have on a cone. I enjoyed knitting it very much, even though I kind of struggled with the recommended way of constructing the neckline. After quite a bit of back and forth I ended up doing a usual one with one right one left for a few cm before doing a italian bind off. I also really love to wear it. Even wore it on cold evenings in summer. Sometimes you have wool and almost immediately know what to cast on and sometimes the decision is really hard, because you just want to knit all the things with it. I can very much relate to that. Also, if I want an easy knit, I usually prefer pullovers to cardigans... and like you do aswell, top down to bottom up. Thank you for your wonderful podcast! Unfortunately I don't comment as much as I should, but it's always a pleasure to watch. Have a good time with your travels coming up soon! Love from Germany, Andrea

I really like the minimalist cardigan but I was hesitant to make it because it's seamed. I'm looking at the options myself. I just finished Morning in Engelberg out of Erika Knight Wild Wool. It is boxy and I cropped it a little. I will definitely wear it. You might want to take a look at that pattern. It's got some texture and interest, but it's quite an easy knit.

Love the Sara vest and yes, those stepped shoulders were not good and that’s when I learned how to do Kitchener. Love all your ideas… impossible to choose! Sadly no projects this week. I’m catching up on all my recent knits that got kicked to the curb because they need to be modified in some way (sleeves too short, body too short, bind-offs too tight, unfinished linen lace scarf). This will happily close out all my summer linen/cotton knits so I can’t finally move back to WOOL❣️

Hi, thank you for your episode! I hope you enjoyed the eclipse today in New Mexico, I think you are very near the perfect location to see the Ring of Fire. I think your yarn would be beautiful in the 2109-08 Kelly sweater or the Thea Colman. I realize the Kelly sweater is not like any of the choices that you made, but I think you would look fantastic in it.

Hello Selma how wonderful to see you again. Always very interesting listening to you and seeing your beautiful knitting. Just a quick question Selma - do you ever knit a garment in the flat mode and not the round? I’m an old school knitter and I do knit socks but I prefer jumpers and cardigans etc in the flat mode. I love everything you knit and love the sweater you are wearing - very comfortable and such a beautiful pattern. Thank you for your great podcasts Selma - I really enjoy them 💕

I wish I were going to your NM retreat since it feels like my state doesn’t have too much for knitters. However, I will be in Rhinebeck! I’m working on my last sweaters for that weekend: The Field Day Cardigan by Ozetta and the Moonset Tee. My vote for you is the Ilha. I have in mind to buy a lot of yarn for vNeck cardigans. One I love that doesn’t get much attention is the Vodka Straight Up by Thea Colman.

Ah thank you for the little snippets of Sting. :) Your footage of the foggy lake reminded me of a trip to Vietnam. We stayed a couple of nights on a very basic house boat of a huge lake, and the early mornings in the fog were just magical. I'm all for simple knits at the moment, but I have bought wool for an all over cable jumper: the wool is a gorgeous irish donegal tweed in the wildflowers colourway. Neutral main yarn with the most lovely colourful tweedy nubs. I havent done cables for years, but how hard can it be eh?!

  • @littlebigknits

    @littlebigknits

What a treat it was to sit and knit along with you on this blustery fall day here in Calgary (I'm working on my first Felix Pullover). You certainly got my attention saying that the Lamana Como could potentially be your new favourite yarn depending on how it wears. Very curious about this outcome, as it reminds me of Ulysse... which is a desert island yarn for me. The fog swim and loon encounter sounds absolutely dreamlike and mystical. GORGEOUS footage of the cottage and EweKnit. OMG! I must go there wow wow! Thanks for sharing so many beautiful options with the Erika Knight BFL. For what it's worth: I think the Granite Cardigan would be a solid choice in its classic simplicity, while allowing the gorgeous yarn to steal the show. Speaking of stealing the show - STING! He's still got it.

Just so you know, I’ve knit with the Erika Knight British Blue a few times and I love it but just one thing to say: you need to knit with at least 22 stitch gauge or it will pill because it is a brushed blueface leister…😘 PS I’m currently knitting the Isla sweater by Emma Wright in said yarn. I chose the project because a) designed in the British Blue at 26 stitches(!) and b) I have the pattern already in the Knitting magazine. In my case it will qualify for the MAL as my husband bought me a sweaters quantity in 2019 that I still hadn’t knit…😂

I think the Ruta would look great in purple looking forward to seeing you knit that. I agree the snooki does look good in cream. I live about hour and half from Barcelona. It was 26 degrees today everyone is still in summer dresses and very light trousers. If that helps your packing decisions for Barcelona Knits. I was just down in Barcelona last week I went to yarn shop Miss Kits and bought one of their Steve West MKALS kits which was Belle Amie yarn. Would love to go to my first yarn festival but currently tiring my best to clear my needles before starting the Steve West. I just learned how to split for sleeves and now I can finally move onto the body of my LePouf cardigan. But I did cast on the Winter League sweater by Two of Wands.

Hi Selma, I hesitate to add another option for your blue yarn, but you DID ask... I am knitting the Joanie cardigan by Flossi. It's the dainties v-neck cardigan, with a nice little cable detail at the sides, and a split hem. It was named after Joan Hickson, who played Miss Marple, and oh! does it have that vibe.

So much choice ... I quite like the Soss cardigan, do you read Norwegian ? The Anker sweater is a great one, I made one in burgundy and it is a go to. I just finished the Happy to see ewe cowl for the PEI Fiber Festival, going back to my short sleeve Vanilla Affogato by Thea Colman, just in case the temperature is warm in the classes. I would say that if you are really looking for simple yet looks smart with the stitch definition of that yarn (I also have used it and loved it, but it was a mitten with a slip stitch tree motif...the Spruce Mittens by Kaitlin Barthold...I am JLoVolco on Ravelry if you want to look), I would say go for the Granite Cardigan. I think the first few round yoke patten options you showed may look very similar to the ranunculus you are wearing here. That cardi also looks so polished and a classic wardrobe piece. I do love the Sarkle as well though! I am finishing up my Llif vest for Rhinbeck...well as an option depending on the weather. I have another and some socks to finish and an Agi the sheep....haha we shall see how far I get in the next 3 weeks. Thanks for the concert...gee I saw him last in '93 also...yikes 😂
