I decided it would be cheaper to buy a pool as a ryijjy would be an odd item and I worried it would be crazy expensive. Let’s see what happens!!

Hi there Selma, I love your podcast,so friendly , personal and informative. All your tee’s are fabulous. Just a note about washing your ryijy , make sure that you have strong men around to lift it out of the pool, soooo heavy. I’ve washed mine flat on the deck using mild soap, the hose and draping on the railing after most of the water has dripped through the deck boards. Good luck!

Oooh, so many pretty things! And all those hugs and smiles and laughs. Sounds like a great time since your last podcast. I'm so happy for you! The social tee is my favorite but the Anker is a very close second. It looks fabulous on you; the color, the fit, the style all suit you well. Good for you for both the walking and eating successes. I can't leave my husband for long for health reasons, so have been working in the yard. It's desert here but still a lot to do and now I have all the dried grasses well away from the house. The fun part? Yesterday I reached back to scratch the back of my thigh and it was SOLID!!!! The other day, my upper back hurt so I did a forward bend and without trying, reached the floor. So I am enthused to continue. Yes, that documentary about food made us cut even further back on meat. We already skip meat at lunch and breakfast and have very small servings at supper, so now we're skipping that too at 2 suppers a week. Nothing has to remain perfect - just the best we can do. So well done!

It was a very impactful documentary I must say!! We already have been buying our chicken and beef directly from small local farms for some time but it made me think a lot about fish in particular!! Well done on all fronts mentioned!!

Love the Peacock tee. I haven't made the Anker Tee yet, but I think you could put short rows in the columns instead of the increase rows; I don't think you would notice that the columns are longer in the back or toward the front.

Another lovely episode. I was sad to have missed you. I was over from Scotland for knit city toronto. Glad you had a great time. I had to buy an extra suitcase for my fabric/yarn purchases. 😂🙈

Our weather has been so wet that I haven’t been able to wash any of them yet. I will do my best!

Your grandmother’s Ryas are beautiful! I’m going to offer unsolicited advice as I feel some anxiety hearing of your plan. Another well proven method is to take them outside in the winter, put them on top of some clean snow on a dry, very cold day. Scatter the light dry snow onto the surface, work in lightly, turn over, tamp, then brush off. I like using an old school broom for this. It’s large flat side for tamping and its coarse ends for sweeping. Repeat on the reverse side. Lightly beating while resting on the snow helps release dust. Yes, I know it sounds bizarre but it works. Immersion in water is a bit risky. Colour fastness is of concern. The other is how sound the fibres are after so many years. The sheer weight when wet especially of the largest one might cause damage when you are manipulating it. I’ve watched colour go down the drain of an antique rug in the bathtub. And have seen rugs with chunks broken away from pulling a saturated edge. Good luck Selma! If you are thinking of letting go of either please let me know!

Lovely knits. I’m with you on keeping it simple with the quilting and sewing clothes. I have loved making log cabin quilts with modern colors/style. I’ve sewn many simple clothes from the designer 100 Act of Sewing. She has a great book that includes some of her patterns but I’ve made her pants, one of the sleeveless dresses and one of the shirts -mostly in linen. I highly recommend! Starting on a Gansey for my husband on 3mm needles-I thought I bought a thicker yarn for it but when I checked, it’s a fingering/sport weight. At least it will be more wearable here in Southern California. The stripped sweater looks lovely!

Selma, what a very nice episode, thank you! You inspired me with the linen and mohair combo. I have some beautifull linen but the colour was a bit to pink for me, now I want to combine it with almond or chocolate mohair. And there is always place for another ranunculus 😂

Hello there I always cast on 60 with a long tail cast on (2 needles held together) and then increase in the first row after the ribbing. Hope that helps 😊

Hi Selma: What an awesome treat is to be able to start the day with knitting with you this Sunday morning! Yes, I have the same challenge with walking. After my freak accident five years ago that resulted in a fractured left ankle with screws and plates and physical therapy, I had another bout of falling and sprain other ankle and twist of the big toe of the feet with the fractured ankle on a cruddy street grocery shopping on last New Year’s Eve that left me very wary about falling again. I was lucky I was able to navigate going to Montreal last year for a little getaway. I had to be careful about cruddy sidewalks and streets. Going forward I would like to travel more because I hardly had any travel in my life, but I have to find places that don’t have so many cruddy sidewalks and street since the pandemic. I, too, am trying to start to incorporate reading and writing in my daily routines so I can spend less time scrolling on my phone. I, too, have been trying to incorporate whole grains in my sourdoughs and eat a more healthy diet since the pandemic. Love that you are enjoying quilting. I wish had a sewing machine that works. I have to hand stitch a toaster cover that I bought fabrics for because my sewing machines are not working, and I can’t get another at this time. I am knitting a third Salty Air and just finished my second Anker Summer sweater. They just fit so well! Thanks very much for sharing! Happy crafting and enjoy a nice restful summer!❤

Everytime I see the Anker, I want to knit it, but I think of all that purling and think hmmmmmm. Hmmm. Your cream might just be the tipping point for me. It was so lovely to meet you and Megha and Mel! I was the girl in the teal ombre dress. Also for every haul I watch, I always have that.... "Oh I *missed* that moment" (even though I had a huge haul). For you, it's the little walking yarn holder! I have a stationary version that works with magnets, which I enjoy, but I've been thinking about trying the walking ones. So many pretties!

This was such a happy episode and of course at the end with the Knit Toronto video I couldn't get the silly smile off my face. It all looked so pretty. I adore your Anker Tee and you look so nice in the white color. So Summery. I just completed my Tolsta Tee in the same cotton/cashmere yarn that you used for yours. I am so satisfied with it. I love the look and the fit. It's not too tight, not too loose but just right. So comfy and I think it will be a wonderful addition to my Summer wardrobe. It's being blocked right now. I have an intention that I'm giving myself til the end of the year to accomplish. All my life I have wanted to be able to do the splits. Since Easter this year I've been stretching almost every day and I'm definitely getting lower. I'm going slowly so as not to hurt something but so far so good. Hopefully by the end of 2024 this 66 year old will finally be able to do the splits. 🤞

Selma, your Anker Tee is beautiful and I love the pearly white yarn you chose. I do see a bit of candlelight in that color too, always a nice touch. Over this 2024 USA Memorial Day weekend, I have taught myself how to knit stranded colorwork (Fairisle knitting), have overcome lots of initial anxiety and worthless tutorial videos, have gone on to design a hat pattern for myself in stranded colorwork, and now I'm knitting the hat. In about 5 more rounds I will be starting the decrease section. From defeated to designing in two days.

Just found you and so glad I did. I’m from Australia and love Tash from Mostly Knitting. The peacock tee has moved up my queue. I love hearing from someone who has made a pattern I’m interested.
