After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

Love your homestead we are starting ours. About to get into meat birds.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video But if people pick up their dog shit from the yard and clean the garbage cans, we wouldn't have many flies but they don't,.and in my area there is many bow flies that kills onion plants.cheers.
Also those cups do work well for about a year but after that they usually need to be replaced. Those valves aren't meant to last long.
How can I get one of those hats?
Ummmm yeah that’s a nope. How do you even have any chickens left?
Surprisingly the bears haven’t messed with the chickens. Other friends in the area have had them destroy theirs though coop and all.
For those who have an Instant Pot, I put whatever number of eggs in with the trivet under them, cook them on low pressure for 3 minutes and allow it to release the pressure on it's own. The eggs are perfect every time. Super easy to peel as well. Oftentimes, I have 2 pieces total of shell from one egg!
Brilliant… so simple
That powder inside is instant yeast. Flies love sweet add sugar ,honey ,sweet juice etc. into a large jar water.1/2way up add 1/2 top of soda bottle turn the top part into the jar or cut the bottom half of a gallon of water or juice bottle. Tape or use putty to secure the top to the bottom of the jar or bottle so they could go in but they can’t get out that’s the key. I saved a piece of screen like a funnel and i use that.
Noway I thought this video would leave me in love with 2 piggy's named Henry and Olivia. Not to mention the cute meat chickens. ❤
Great informative video
Thank you, glad it was helpful.
Thank you for the always helpful and positive videos
You are so welcome, thanks for spending your time with us
Great job Mrs. Rocky Creek. Love your channel.
She has some skills. Thank you
My dad had an egg in a hotel in Nigeria that had a black yolk. The chickens eat insects. I’d prefer they eat corn than black insects
Black yolk 😮 that’s wild
If we set it to 2 hours max brightness, will it go back to "Induction" mode when that 2H timer's up?
I don’t think so. That’s one thing I don’t like about it. You can’t set a default. Unless I’ve done something wrong, I think it repeats the last thing you’ve selected each time
Happy 4th of July!
Thanks, happy Fourth of July to you as well 🇺🇸 🎆
happy 4th! how exciting i live in a trailer and all that space is great! prayers for Madisons swift recovery take care!
Thank you. She’s made small progress. Our house originally was just under 1,200 sqft but it seems like once my son arrived, we have stuff everywhere 🤪. Looking forward to some more space
I really enjoy your videos.
Glad you’re enjoying them. Thanks again for watching
Sending love and prayers for a fast recovery. ❤🙏
Thank you. It’s been slow progress but she’s making some progress.
I'm getting chickens in a few months and I find your videos informative and helpful. I will use this recipe. Your videos are inspiring and encouraging, which is exactly what this old lady needs. Thank you.
Hope your first experience goes well. This feed worked well, but sourcing the ingredients became increasingly difficult. If these are your first chickens, it may not be a bad idea to just start with a quality prepared feed until you’ve gotten everyone settled and then transition to a custom feed. Just a thought if you have a hard time getting all the items or it proves to be very expensive. Our local mill closed down after over 100 years, along with inflation, the custom feed idea has been hard to sustain
@@RockyCreekHomestead thank you so much for taking time out of your busy life to respond.
I appreciate that input so much. I will certainly use pre-made at first with the intent to transition. Especially since I'm a newbie and have no idea what I'm doing.
Hope your daughter has a speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing.
I hope so too, thanks so much.
Hey Stranger. Your looking great ;) Love the addition ;)
Thank you 🤗. Hope you’re doing well
These cups don't work that great. Just got some. On the first day two out of five are already broke.
Sorry you had a bad experience. We’ve averaged over 2 year life from each of ours. I’d recommend contacting rent a coop and explaining your issue. I’ve had good success with their customer service
To get them to eat Deer 😂 here in Sweden you pay more for Deer than sirloin. It’s delicious.
It’s crazy how things are so different in other places. I like it and could eat it anytime.
That's a shame that they haven't responded to you. Thankfully we haven't had an issue with our chickcozy door. To keep our chickcozy door on the mega run from getting any moisture on it from rain, we installed it facing inward. Something to think about if any more moisture issues arise...
Conveniently they responded after posting the video 🤣
Having control over how the chickens are raised and processed is the greatest value factor.
Agreed 👍
How much do you feed a 5 mo. Old pig?
For quite sometime now I’ve been doing 2 cups feed in am and 1 cup feed in afternoon
@@RockyCreekHomestead mine are still in a chicken coop/run so not in pasture yet. Need to get fencing up
I am willing to pay more for a product if it means better customer service. For example, we buy our home appliances from a local appliance store that services what they sell AND is the local parts supplier for the brands they sell. I pay more to buy from them because I know they will service the appliances.
I completely agree with you. Even the best companies can have a hiccup here or there, the customer service on the backside is key.
Pour it in your creek, don't you think there's chemicals in it that will kill or pollute the creek
I keep having bunnies die when they get out of the box. If I turn it will it help them live?
Oh man that stinks, my guess is they may be getting out and not able to get back in. I would recommend turning it on its side once they’re getting out on their own and I’d suspect it would greatly help
Dude, only a guy would say, 'if it's dirty sock it's not too bad!' Y'alls facial reactions are priceless. Poor Mrs. RC is not having a good time.
🤣 some of them were pretty rough. It was all in good fun and great laughs though
Stan, the homestead looks good. The food-forest is a great unexpected addition to your summer harvest and so hopefully it produces something for you. Little Man in PJ's and boots is awesome. I got home the other night to find our grandson in the pool with nothing but a smile! Oh to be young again. Take care, brother.
The food forest has been so neat to see grow. It’s like a mystery. Little boys are so funny and adventurous. Enjoy those great times and hope y’all been doing well.
Just ordered some due to this video
Hope you like them. They’ve worked well for us.
We have a chick cozy and love it. We have not had any problems but ours is installed inside the coop. Thank you for the update and info.
Outside of this water issue ours was great. Hopefully this will do the trick
so good to see you my husband uses flex and really likes it take care
It seems to be pretty neat stuff. Thanks, you take care as well
Thanks for the update! You'd think they would put some weatherproofing on something that's going to be outside... SMH. I think your solution is adorable! It looks like a little addition on the coop.
It has a little lip on the rubber gasket but it’s clearly not enough. If they relocated it on the underside it would probably help. Either way it is what it is. Hopefully this will help solve the problem.
I really enjoy your channel and am learning so much. Thank you.
Thanks, I’m glad it’s been helpful. That’s the whole goal here.
Love the idea of door closures.
What percent of protein was the feed you used on that batch of chickens ?
18%. Some times they got 16% layer feed if I ran out of the other. I’ve raised broilers solely on layer mash before without issue too.
@@RockyCreekHomestead I just finished a batch of crosses on 24% start to finish and had issues. Butchered just over 5 weeks all dressed over 5 lbs some were over 6 lbs. one died late others got wet belly that I caught and butchered before they died. It was a week long butcher process because of the 24%. I plan to reduce protein next time. Thanks
Thanks for sharing. I originally bought broiler feed when I got my first feed and an older man told me he always raised his chickens on the same feed no matter if they’re for meat or eggs. I decided to give it a try and it worked just fine. It does result in a slower grow out but I do think the chickens seem healthier as a result
Get to the point please.
😆
Big daddy hell nah love the name
Big Daddy 💪🏾
💀💀💀
Works great
You have to also factor in your labor because your time is worth money. Either way, you're food-independent and that can be worth more than gold!
Independence and better quality is always the most important. Thanks for watching
Awesome possum! My mom used to make these for my dad many moons ago, God rest her weary soul, so, I am going to surprise him with some, he's turning 90 in 2 days! Shoot, I better get on it......😅
I bet he’ll love that thoughtful gift. Hopefully he’ll like them. Thanks for watching
My chickens keep knocking the red cup part off and the water all flows out..
Oh man, I’ve never had mine do that. Sorry it’s not working out. Are they RentACoops brand? I know there’s a ton of similar looking products out there. Sounds frustrating
@@RockyCreekHomestead no.. they are a different brand.. but.. I'm glad to hear about rent a coop brand! Go figure. I just ordered more from somewhere else, but definitely going to order these if the next ones don't work!
What? No dead electrocuted deer...disappointed! 😅
Sorry to disappoint 😆
Great video! Glad I found you. Thank you for the information.
Thank you. Appreciate you spending time with us.
How can you pet that pig and slaughter it? I don't understand
I know that can seem odd to some, but I think it’s important to know where your food comes from and to give them the best life possible while they’re here. Being naive to the treatment of some commercially produced meat sources doesn’t change the reality of how they’re being treated. I don’t see a reason to treat an animal less just because they’re a source of food for the family.
Q tip is the QUEEN!!
She really is 😆
Was the Chicken egg bound?
I don’t believe so. She was isolated and began improving on her own after a few days
