I’ve RESIGNED from my job of nearly 20 years! Hardest decision ever!

***********ROCKY CREEK HOMESTEAD****************
After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

Thank you for service in law enforcement and thank you for sharing your homesteading path ( also community service ). It is a positive contribution that doesn't require a bulletproof vest.

I agree 100%. I left after 29 years for about the same issues. When you can trust the drug addicts and dealers more than your own administration, time to get out. I just felt bad about leaving my fellow offices and the people of the community I served. Good luck to you with your new job.

Unfortunately there’s truth to that. It seems more and more if it’s not on camera then your word means nothing. I’ve had people respond to aid other officers and forget to turn their cameras on and then I’m supposed to counsel them. I get frustrated because when you’re rushing to aid an officer in need, body camera doesn’t always pop in as priority one. It’s just weird times and a time when my mindset isn’t lining up as much any longer

My husband left the FD in Cary NC after 17 faithful years for the same reasons you did. He, too, loved what he did, planned to retire from there, etc. But they turned on him in an ugly way all because of politics. My hat is off to you, sir. Stan I appreciate your honesty. I have followed you since the beginning. 5 years ago I had ambitions to leave my career and become a LEO. My wife and I had some financial goals we wanted to accomplish first. Once we met those a year and a half ago I applied and tested at big city PD here in Indiana. I got accepted into the academy and was excited and proud. One of the best experiences of my life so far. However… It became very clear I was going to have very little time with my family. 6 days on middle or Night Shift and rookies picked up the OT. I have a 3 year old. I don’t want to miss these moments I’ll never get back. We also were told over and over again about the possibility of being sued in civil court and prosecuted criminally even though we followed all of administrative procedures. It came down to politics and the prosecutor not being on the same side as law enforcement. So before going out to field training I made the decision that as much as I want to serve my community it’s not worth the politics and my family well being. I can serve my community other ways through volunteer work.

Stan, happy for you and proud of you, my friend. I can only imagine how difficult this decision was for you and, like you said, I'm sure there will be 'difficult' days ahead with the transition but, you know how to make it through difficult times and you've got a great support system with Mrs. RC and the rest of your family. Prayers for courage and wisdom for you as you continue this journey towards the family business. As I have told you before, our daughter, son-in-law, brother, uncle, and cousin are all LEO's and it has drastically changed over the past 3-4 years and it takes a toll on a family to live with all the pressures that come with working in this field. Like you said, you could go on for an hour on the topics surrounding life for LEO's and that would just begin to scratch the surface of the issues involved. You're a good guy and you will always serve your community simply because of who you are. Years ago I heard a saying that says, 'stand for something or you'll fall for anything' and I think we're watching that come true in our country in many ways. The good thing is that you have stood for something and you will see God provide for you in different ways. I'm a firm believer of where God guides, He will always provide. Blessings, my friend.

I really loved it and wasn’t doing it for the money either but I could see back then things were going downhill and it just didn’t make sense to keep putting my life on the line everyday just to wind up getting sued for doing my job. I had to pop on my laptop to respond to this one! I found your channel about 2 years ago, from homesteading, I didn't find out until probably months later into following your channel you were a fellow brother. Finding that out made me instantly feel more connected to you, and I've been following ever since. I gotta say, I did not see this one coming from you, I was truly shocked. I completely resonate with what you've said in this video. You absolutely have many more years of experience and skin in the game than I do, but it doesn't take long for anyone in this field to figure out how much the pendulum is swinging against law enforcement -- in more ways than one. I work for a state agency vs, a municipal town/ city, and I can say it's not much different here. Pay discrepancies, not being backed by your own administration, no support from state officials (politics) for proper pay/ pension. It's truly so disheartening to see how such critical jobs are put on the back burner. People are walking away from what were once highly sought after jobs (like you mentioned when you first got on!) I have hope things will change, it's getting to a breaking point across the country with staffing shortages, security and safety risks, that eventually things are going to have to get fixed to retain officers. I wholeheartedly support your decision to walk away, everyone has to do what is best for them and their families. I wish you so much luck and happiness in your new endeavor. I'll be right here still supporting!

Appreciate your support through the years. It’s been neat seeing some glimpses of your career. I still have a huge passion for the profession and if I didn’t have this family business opportunity I would’ve continued the grind to retirement. I’m leaving my service years alone so If I needed or wanted to get back into the field I could continue on. I’m very confident I’d get hired on by just about any agency around. It is very disheartening to see how the profession has been tarnished by a couple bad seeds and politicians. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and all those continuing the course. The one silver lining is there should be promotional opportunities for many younger officers and those who shine will hopefully have opportunities earlier than normal. I know it may have been a shock because I try my best to keep politics and opinions surrounding anything that could be associated with politics out of my content. I thank you for your service in your department and your continued support. Stay safe

Unfortunately some people don’t realize how bad it would be without police. One day some localities will realize it. I thank you for the words of encouragement

I agree with you on concerns and why you would want to stay..but I agree more with you getting out of law enforcement. As a nurse that admits kids ages 4-18 to a behavioral/mental health facility the children live in bad to horrific environments. I have wanted to quit almost daily. It does weigh on you heavily. And I plan to retire by the end of January 2024. I stay because I think maybe I can help one more child deal with a bad situation or see they are not alone and things can get better. Or make a DCFS report for them and pray it is followed through on by a concerned and loving worker. Of course the children are not perfect but none of us are perfect. By the beginning of February someone else will need to carry that burden because I will be 66 1/2 and need to take care of myself…for my grandchildren. I wish every police officer could get out of law enforcement..but that is unrealistic. I also wish every nay sayer and Politician would open their eyes and see how much law enforcement officers are needed and how much they do to help our communities. I know that is unrealistic also. I wish you great success in your new journey and prayers to accept that you did the right thing for your family. First and foremost God expects you to be there and lead your family. And by doing so you will be given opportunities to help your community in other ways. Have a Blessed Week.

I’m not sure how you’re state operates but I know our mental health system and processes are very flawed. Unfortunately it is my opinion that law enforcement has had the mental health problems dumped on their lap. I can’t imagine what it’s like for the workers such as your self who help them once they’re admitted. Thank you for your years of dedicated service to people.

@@RockyCreekHomestead I believe the mental health system is very flawed everywhere. And I agree law enforcement officers get it dumped on them. Some are horrible and tear the hospital up..punching holes in walls, punching staff and other patients. The Veterans I took care of for 12 years at the VA are very different from the general public I admit now. The veterans learned respect in the military. The general public have no respect for anyone not even themselves typically. It a love hate thing. You love people and want to help but hate the lack of truly helpful services.

I understand what you saying but the reason everything' getting harder on the cops y'all have The thin Blue line and y'all will stick up for that gang no matter what officer safety it used to be public safety . I have seen the black and white flag and the police department with a grey line through it which is the clans flag but that officer said that was there playing in the color their uniform but it's the same flag that the clan uses. I can remember the cops when I was a kid and we always talk to the cop you can't now

I think your statement is painting with a broad brush and isn’t fully informed. There’s no doubt some people become officers who have no business being officers. I can speak for the many men and women I worked with that we are interact with our community on a daily basis and are actually very well supported by our citizens. I have conducted and reported internal investigations that resulted in termination of officers who didn’t conduct themselves with integrity and honesty. It’s unfortunate you’ve had some bad experiences but I respectfully disagree with your perspective

My grandfather and his brother were Canadian mounted police. My grandfather never liked the politics back then and changed his career to Pharmacist. My now FIL was also a mounted police officer. He has mentioned the lack of funding and training has gone to hell in a handbasket. I have a cousin that is an investigator. I was driving home listening to the cbc radio and constable Jack Henzie was being interviewed about the Highway of tears investigation. I damn near drove off the road lol. I had no idea this was my cousin with the same name as his dad, my grandfathers brother. I thought it was a ghost lol Any way lol I've herd stories about how things are not what they use to be. I finally met the cousin on the radio at my grandfathers funeral.

Wow that’s wild how that came full circle. Law enforcement unfortunately is one of those things people don’t want or understand a need until they are who needs it. People don’t understand how much true prevention we do or what we deal with that they have no idea is within their living area. Sounds like the desire to serve runs deep in your family.
