Another thing I need to get done this week. Planting garlic. I planted some Egyptian walking onions and some Louisiana bunching onions in a raised bed (for green tops and some small shallot type onions). Im retiring the end of November so I will then have to step up my gardening game next spring. Im looking forward to having the time to spend at home and planning my spaces better.

Yay to retirement! Well deserved. I’ve heard of Egyptian walking onions but haven’t tried them. I hear they’re very hardy and spread a lot. Have you grown them before? I find smaller onions are easier for us for cooking and we seem to use more often. I may need to give them a try eventually.

I plant garlic all the time and all over in the garden. I use it as a deterrent for mice, voles, cabbage moth worms, aphids, caterpillars I'm sure there's more. I never planted a bed of garlic 😎 (well I tried once) I just bang it n all over and just the organic from the store. I bought seed garlic once and planted a patch, it never grew idk what happened to it, I think my ground is to wet for to long in the spring from the snow melting. I have had the store bought garlic come back the next year, not all of it some here some there. 🥰

I’m curious to see how this goes. May be a success or may be a big dud. Someone recommended planting some in corners of beds with other plants. I may try that too. It could be a backup option and increase our chances of success. Still much to learn about it.

Stan, I'll be excited to see how the garlic turns out for you next year. We have never grown it either and have always wanted to so that we would have a stash on hand since we use it quite a bit in cooking. Great to see Mrs. RC joining in on the fun of planting. We are in fall clean-up mode right now with lows in the 30's for this weekend. I keep hearing that it could be a rough winter in our area (KY). Hope all is well and we'll see you in the next video!

It was nice getting her involved. We had an afternoon where the kids where with grandparents so that freed her up to help some. I’m hoping for at least a couple good snows this winter. We haven’t had a good snow in our area for several years. I don’t want anything harsh or crazy but a good snow or two is always a joy and a great ground rehydration.

Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I sourced all my ingredients for the homemade feed from the local mill. Unfortunately they shut down after over 100 years of operation about a year ago. Sourcing all the ingredients at a reasonable price became difficult. I’ve been using a non-gmo feed manufactured by a mill about an hour away from us. They’re called Sunrise Farms
