After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

@Rocky Creek Homestead hey y'all, quick question. What's the most chicks that you've kept in the tote you showed in the video?

Haha that’s funny. I’ve had a couple friends planning to get chickens for the first time this year and have been asking me to make a video on the basics.

Awesome and thanks. We just hatched 11/16 eggs this week. I’m sharing the incubating basics next. That’s always a fun process.

I appreciate the simple tips! It’s my first year with chickens - got 10 barred rocks at 5 weeks old right now. I was hoping it would stay warm enough to get them out of the brooder soon, but it looks like we’re going to stay cold here in central Virginia. It does seem like the barred rocks feather out pretty fast though.

Congrats on the new chickens. Barred rocks are awesome. You’ll get lots of eggs from them and they’re super hardy birds. I hope your experience is a great one.

guessing you could put the layer-feed through the grinder for the chicks? and add more protein?

Hi there would buying 8 layer hens a rooster and an incubator to hatch chicks be a profitable business

I would say it could but it will take a little bit to recoup your investment. Once you establish a reputation as a breeder of good pure bred quality chicks, business can be steady. A local person here stays sold out. I think it’s knowing what chickens are popular in your area too. I have a video coming out in a couple days on incubating.
