Kris Harbour Natural Building
Kris Harbour Natural Building
My goal is to buy some woodland in wales in the UK and build a house with natural and re-cycled materials.
I spend most of my time at the moment making things that will be beneficial for the future projects such and a water wheel/turbine a wind turbine, woodworking benches and holding tools.
i would rather make something with my hands than to buy it. there is nothing more rewarding to me than to make something and see it working. its a real privilege that i can spend my time doing what i enjoy.

ah! a bathtub!
I saw some american farmers freeze drying there excess eggs, salsa, ever thouht of trying that out guys? handy for long term storage.
brilliant work!
How much was the land?
Great job, very cool 👍
Love your simple design!
If you used an inverter dynamo you could use or redirect all the energy you create. A cheap generator might be from a gasoline powered inverter generator. Fundamentally, the waterwheel is at best 40% efficient. I’ve taken a liking to the cork screw turban which takes advantage of the twists and fall in a whirlpool fashion I just see that you wheal can produce more than you need, and the extra can be shunted to heat water.
Wouldn’t a keyway be a better power transfer method? I had a grain milling machine fail in the exact way and I was surprised that it was welded in the first place. 🤷♂️
Hahah, I just watched further to see you’ve moved on from welding the shaft… very good 👍🏻
Hello Kris, I am from Salinas, California and have a question- when are you cutting the pins at each joint? I would think they may create a few issues and safety concerns?
Boyz In Da Herd
Ohhh shit!
I hope this is just for the 2 of you. Touching it with your hands is nasty. He's running a drill and then touching the mash. Yuch!!!
Gotta be careful with that jacket hanging over the machinery @10:54 it made me nervous lol
Just done some maths, that is I divided 6939400 W by 136402h to get an average out put of 50.87 watts per hour, seems low see it was showing an point in time out put of 688 W. Is my maths wrong or is the hour count wrong / being read incorrectly? Perhaps it is 13640.2 H (444 days running) which would give an average output of 508.7W?
Surprised you didn't rig some hydroelectric on the spout of the juice press.
Kris, you are a credit to Engineering responsibility. Pity that multibillion pound companies can’t or won’t do the same, as anyone who ever bought a new car will attest. As costly as this may have been to you in terms of monetary loss, you will reap that back in spades from new customers who will choose your experience and knowledge over price. Good on ya !
Amazing and so impressive. What a gifted man! This is what all men should be doing with their time not wasting life playing video games etc. Real man!
Love your work. I might have block and tackle set up have fun 🤗
That's super impressive and also inspiring!
how did you get permission without an agricultural business? N. Somerset council denied my application for a similar set-up (smaller land) because my business made less than 5k profit a year then they changed my land use to leisure. I am very tempted to just ignore them and carry on anyway...
This is what we call a propa man! In a time when men get confused at everything and are afraid at every moment, it's good to see we have some real ones left
Integrity. Well done. I’d hire you and I’d recommend your work more now than ever.
A popular you tuber, Mustie 1 has a saying, "We do it right 'cause we do it twice." Sometimes even a mechanical genius make a blue.
This is so DAM SICK
I am shocked that nobody has been after you for diverting water flow in this manner.
2 layers of what? ive listened to you say it five times and I have no idea what word you're using hexian? hessian? what?
oh you mean burlap, okay cool
Can you stop saying "I built this..." I've YET to build anything. You have done more work than God himself. Bravo.
Hello, what wood do/could you use for the dam ? And do you put a liner underneath ? Thanks
So it's only giving out 1kW of power? Wouldn't it be much easier, cheaper, and more reliable, to use solar panels? £60 for a 400W panel nowadays. This is a shining example of why wind turbines and water wheels can't compare to modern solar panels.
What is the name of the grey material you put on the wall? Thanks
Dude!! You are Awesome!! I would so love to live like this.
Thanks man. I am currently building a round wood pergola based off of your hard work & research. TIf you get a min, Check out my pond build and see why your building style will fit so well in my plans. Thank you again, sir!
Amazing, never integrate with big towns or cities again. Unless you speak a different language from English & you dont mind being the only white face. You've made the best decisions.
Cheers mate 🍻
6900wWh over two winters is excellent. The productivity of that little turbine is remarkable when you consider I get about 3900kWh per year from my 4.1kW PV array. I would love micro-hydro to complement our solar PV, the long distance to our little stream, and relatively low head available would make it a real challenge though.
Have you thought about putting up a time lapse camera to monitor the intake visually ?
what happens if you put alternator both sides? will there be much resistance that it would generate lesser power? how about build custom cooling on the alternator since your also surrounded with flowing water?
Do you have any microhydro that run on a farm dam rather than a flowing creek? The area I'm looking at gets enough rainfall overall to sustain a household, but it's too high in the catchment to give a continuous flow so I need to store the rain in a dam when it falls and run it through a turbine from that just like a miniature version of traditional mega hydro. I'd love to see other people working through the issues with a system like that before I buy the land and start building!
Great vids, I’ve just subscribed and really enjoying them. I’m no expert, but I’m not sure copper grease is too clever in bearings?
On your next generation, could you have a couple of folded tubes welded on the generator side to protect it when it is upside down on the floor? They could also double up as carry handles.
I tip my hat to you Kris, you are inspirational
I have worked in heavy industry for years as a mechanical engineer and saw this too often!. Welding on shafts is to be avoided if at all possible. En24t is what we used on heavy conveyor drums and even when welded with the correct procedure have failed over time due, if welded, to fatigue propagating at welds. The Best solution is a keyed shaft and hub with a jib head key each side. The jib of the key can be tacked to the hub.
The fenner locks you have used are also great when done and tightened right 👍good job all round
An honest man is worth his weight in gold. Oh and concentricity is a tough one ;-)
Good for you that was a big accomplishment absolutely love it
In a living are you're away from all the crazy people
I hope the government doesn't bother you like the government is bothering the Amish here in Pennsylvania
i come from an amish family, so i’m very interested to hear u expand on what you mean by this.
Great work mate! You deserve to be happy
Damn, nice SS welds.
Your skill and integrity is commendable. Well done Kris.
Well done son!
