Timber Framed Barn Part 7 More Milling And Temporary Workshop
Its the last week of preparations for the timber framing. I have milled all but 4 logs from the pile and we now have most of the timber we need for the frame. I also milled lots of 4x2 for the temp structure. I managed to get the temp structure frames up but the weather turned on me so I will have to finish it when the weather improves. The guys that are helping are coming to start in a few days so I need to get moving!
Enjoy the video.

Closing in on half mil subscribers, brilliant. In my book Kris' journey is the most entertaining channel on YT, better than Netflix. Remember mate slow & steady wins the day.

Downright spoilt this week with 2 videos! Thanks for treating us!
I always admire your ability to both complete these projects and document the process! Keep doing you 👍
Don't worry about another week of milling; I find the process fascinating, and I am sure I am not alone. Good luck!
Great to see the Barn going up. I'm always amazed with your "figure it out" and "get it done" attitude. Thanks for the extra video!
You are every living every man's dream! So knowledgeable about what you are doing and also you put the effort in! Unlike 99% of people you know what you want and HOW to do it, your also human like the rest of us by hitting your shin on the forks 😂😂😂
Only an incredibly brave soul would embark on such a large project, using only your own resources! The world needs more people like this.
I admire what you are doing. Wind power, hydraulic power, milling your own lumber, raising geese. Simply amazing .
This man should be made in charge of all public building construction. He's got more go in him than the entire civil service

Your depth of knowledge and sheer grit is astounding! Never boring. Thanks!
This is true self sufficiency. Need something? Build it. Broke something? Fix it. Keep up the great work Kris!
when you skinned your shin on that fork I felt it! Ouch!
Can we all just appreciate the care that went into editing the video to make the loud noises of the sawmill etc quiet, so we are not having to dive for the volume control.
To me this is one of the very best youtube channels. No BS, straight down to business by an incredibly talented, skillfull and ridiculously hard working individual. The average/typical youtuber would have made a big thing of the damage Kris does to his to hand (towards the end of this video) and they would use it as a clickbait caption & thumbnail. You never get this kind of nonsense from Kris. Because it's self filmed and self edited, this is why people like me will watch and who no longer even own a TV. Just imagine if a TV production company was in control of making Kris's videos with no doubt someone like Kevin McCloud saying half way through a given project, "I'm really not sure of Kris made the right decision here..." Yawn!
I'm unreasonably proud of you! Watching from the comfort of my chair as you've built a forest, a house, shops, a pond, brought power, animals and videoed it all! I'm happy for that day I watched you throw some tires in a circle on the ground and build a sweet house on them, I made a great choice following your channel. Thank you very much for all the time you've put into this in a way you can share it and think of how your children's children will be able to see how it was started. :)

This is the greatest content on youtube by far. I've been riveted to this guy for years & watching him grow is phenomenal.
This video's story arc, the ever present threat of injury from the wood, the mill or the tractor. Its like a DIY thriller episode.
Hi Kris, I remember making a comment when you 1st built the sawmill, about the need for wire brushes or scraperts on the rails, to stop the build up of saw dust and resin. Also, it's a good idea to add some washing up liquid to the water feed to lubricate the blade.
Brilliant! We're building a house and have decided to build the shop/barn first for the same reason you put up your temporary shelter. We need a place to store timbers, supplies & tools under cover and a place to work on cutting the frame for the house. Your tractor and the mill you made work wonders to help you do so much of all of this yourself. Really admire you son. Keep on with it!

I've put little snow plug-kind metal sheets in triangle shape in front of the casters to prevent clogging with sawdust. Had brushes before but they clogged as well (esp when wet ...) Scraping beats brushing by far. Stay safe. P.S. This little tractor astonishes me time and time again ...
That splinter in the knuckle makes you realise how vulnarable a human body can be, especially if pushed a bit too hard. You're doing an awesome job Kris, but keep an eye on the priorities of being healthy and happy, and Dot as well. All the best to you

First time I've seen someone play Jenga with a tractor. 🙂 Fascinating to watch a haphazard pile of logs turn into an orderly stack of lumber. Progress takes time and patience. One step at a time you keep moving forward until the journey's done.

Often I find myself in a situation that i just can not motivate myself to move forward with the task at hand, then i ask myself ' What would Kris do" and before i know it the task is completed. Thanks Kris for the inspiration!!!
It’s nice seeing you back using the sawmill. I enjoy your mortise and tendon projects. Evan individual joins no need to skip ahead I always enjoy a visit. A week project could spread into a month of material and no one would mind.
I know nothing (and am usually not interested) about machinery or engines or welding, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying your welding projects. I’m binging to catch-up from my hiatus, and went back and watched you make your table. Think I’m going to go WAY back and watch the making of your sawmill, lol. Thanks for posting and sharing. Glad you had the help putting the temporary bldg frames up. Very impressive work getting that 200 x 250mm out of the mill.
You and your team/family/comrades keep meeting milestone after milestone! Awesome Fortitude!
The sap is what dulls the blade the most an makes it sticky. Add dish soap to your water. Should help with the bind. An dulling of the blade.
I love your work. You can take the less desirable wood and laminate it using screws and water resistance glue it would make super strong beams that you could use in places that are unseen glue laminated beams are far more stable because they don’t twist because the different grains oppose each other

Kris take a look at the Woodmizer LT15 it’s got a string assist to move the saw down the track. It’s what I use. Also I think they have silicone pads as pushers in front of the wheels to remove the sawdust from the track.

Kris you legend, sometimes i have to remind myself that for the most part this is just you and a cat and a camera. May the weather be in your favor for the upcoming work!
Weather is such a big factor when doing any outdoor construction. It's enough to make you tear your hair, rend your garments, and smear ashes on your forehead! As a home owner, gardener, and the lady who must make any repairs to said home, yard, and shed, I can truly relate to having cruddy weather getting in the way of getting tasks done in a timely manner. If you want an easy video idea: something I'd really like to see is a full video of you milling a log: how you pick the log and why, how you get it on the mill, orient it, choose what wood to make from which part of the log and so on and so on. If not completely unedited, at least with a timer so we can see how much time it actually takes. Cheers, always a pleasure to see your progress!

Kris, you made a comment about having trouble pushing the saw forward when cutting. There are a couple of guys that use Automatic Transmission Fluid on the rails to lubricate them. They lay a layer of it on the rails and it helps make it move easier. I enjoy watching the sawing process and can't wait to see the pieces turn into a building. Be careful when flipping those huge chunks of wood. I'd hate to see you get hurt.
Good luck and hope for good weather! Hope your finger heals well. Enjoyed the video, as always! Thanks Kris
Nice project. The mechanism to turn the wood is very good .👍 and subscribed
Kris buddy hope your day goes good!
Use a HDPE plastic cutting board to make way scrapers to keep off the sawdust, a V shape cut into the plastic can glide very close to the ways without adding friction.
