Timber Framed Barn Part 13 Timber Frame Complete
After a couple of weeks away from the barn while I finished milling we are back for 3 days to finish the last parts of the frame. It all went well until it came to moving the timber. I was let down by the lorry driver so I needed u trailering it all back in lots of trips. it was a bit of a hectic day but thanks to some good help we got it done. its now back at my lace covered over and ready for the next stage.

I'm impressed with the level of teamwork required to get all these hand carved joints from multiple people to all fit together. The story of how it was done is just as impressive as the structure will be.

People in tech, especially, think teamwork is hard, but it was figured out millenia ago. We just dumb now.
I’ve been considering why the quality of your videos are so much better than mainstream TV productions when documenting DIY matters and concluded that the essential difference is that yours are produced by skilled practical people who know and understand the problems associated with creating complex projects. Whereas TV producers are trained only with recording visual techniques and often know little about the processes they’re recording. The absence of distracting music and unnecessary commentary is a feature of your video’s with attention to detail where it matters is the hallmark of your work. This series from planning to the erection of the finished result is excellent and entertaining throughout. You engage with your audience very well without trying to compromise on imparting essential information. In short your work and that of Dorothy is inspirational and no doubt will encourage many others to take on their own projects.
You know Chris I have watched you for years and have enjoyed all the wonderful things you have accomplished you really are a cleaver talented man but watching this wonderful series you have all done on the "magnificent" barn build has been a real joy, just watching all of you very calm talented men work happily together made me so happy and longing for the next episode Thanks so much for sharing this build Chris :)

Absolutely spot on Linda. This series has been shining example of skill, talent and hard work by everyone involved. I really felt your frustration with that lorry at the end Kris - I've had issues with similar cowboys in the past, it can really put a downer on things. I'd have been in bits just lifting one of those beams so I'm in awe of what you accomplished.
When We need an Ark, these are the guys for the job, :) outstanding workmanship.
WOW, the Craftsmanship that I have been watching, during the many video segments, making the many Beams, Braces & Complicated Joints of this Barn to be built, is Awesome ! Kris you really found a team of amazing Carpenters !
Not long done the roundhouse when I started watching this channel, it gets better every year and this barn is going to be epic.
18:52 Chris enjoys plumb bobs so much ( to stay primitive) that he sabotages the modern levels by dropping them on the floor ! Bravo Chris, stay true to your roots !! LOL !!!
After all that planing and hard work, it's finally getting close to completion. You must be anxious to see it being assembled 🙂 Can't wait to see the final result!
The skill and patience of these guys is so impressive.
Despite everything that’s was thrown at you you got there. Bravo! At least it didn’t rain! 😊
What a project. This will be one of the last buildings left standing when all the people are gone. So well built!!!
Gosh, the psychological impact of having that Lorie fall through and then the added physical challenge of moving the entire building by hand, is quite a test of will. Congratulations on that Victory!
My back hurts just watching. 😂 Good stuff as always.
You must have saw dust for the loo to last a couple of generations now.
This barn build is epic, can't wait to see it completed. If the barn is this good, I can't imagine how wonderful your timber frame house will be when you build it...
978 views in the first 13 minutes! Shows you how awesome this channel is! Thanks Kris :)
It's a privilege to watch you build
Absolutely massive amount of work now behind you- job well done- can’t believe how much time this would have taken 100 years ago. The team you assembled were some of the best craftsmen I have ever seen. This type of construction is a dying art. Thank you for preserving this for future reference. Hats Off to the entire group!
Balls of steel my son! what a project! 👏
Seems that every job you gave out of hand went wrong, the poor made pegs, the scrapyard truck... 😵💫 At least the framework will be great, because you were at hand with the guys! Thx for showing! 👍👍👍
Brilliant work again, great problem solving skills! My back is aching just watching you stack that timber, take care.
Enjoyed it. enjoyed it you say, I cannot get enough of it, this is unreal, I wish you were on for an hour every night, I wouldn't bother to do half the editing, I would think everyone wants to see more and more, Thank you so much. I hate ads so I will be getting money to you somehow!
Great neighbor to lend you the use of a barn like that.
I find it funny as in 'Haha', that your instincts are very often spot on from the get go....as soon as another plan comes in sideways...your plans go awry! You ended up transporting it yourself with help, thank goodness. Those men at the barn have been fabulous! But shame on the Crane Lorry fella! Good luck with the build m'dear. xx
Very impressive! I have also been watching your channel for some time, always very impressed with your many talents, cannot wait for the build to come together!! Congrats on this step you all deserve it!
I really appreciate you sharing this barn build with us. I think we all enjoy watching excellent craftsmanship in progress. Outstanding work gentleman.
Smoking 🚬 in a sawdust filled barn. Reminds me if those grain elevator explosions. 🥳💥
Inspiring. Love this Kris. I work a desk job but this looks like a dream job. My dream house is a country timber framed house I build surrounded by gardens. One day, Lord willing.
Such a joy watching master craftsmen at work, no fuss, not rushing just keen to complete a good job. Just wish I had an ounce of their ability and patience. 🤗👍
The greatest wealth is health. It's good to know that barn will still be there in 2323. Great work Kris, the other carpenters and Dorothy. 🙂❤
Amazing workmanship all round a joy to watch
Thank you for the videos. When the barn is finished, how about a topping-out ceremony, live, via video conference. It puts its hat on the whole thing. awesome work. I'm happy for you. Greetings from Old Germany, Frankfurt.
Kris, what you are doing is fantastic, truly wonderful and you are living your dream (and many others dream as well) but what really impresses me more than anything here is the skill and craftsmanship of you and the team from Timber Roots. The average age of the guys is probably late 20's, possibly early 30's and its just remarkable to see that level of professionalism these days - I come from a die manufacturing background and my trade is a dying breed - hopefully woodworking will survive for many years to come using all the core skills which have been around for thousands of years, supplemented with modern tools but the core competency is still alive and doing well - great job.
You guys are mot just carpenters you all are true craftsmen. To minimize cracking treat the ends of the post with anchor seal
Cannot wait for the barn to go up. Good luck Kris.
From a tent on 18 acres, this is progress. Congrats
You need one of those log dollies , to move heavy timbers around, save your back 👍 Major woodcraftsmanship skills there❗❗😎😎👍👍
Hard work done by All, cant wait for the barn raising.
Ken you are one hell of a man and mechanic.
Love it, can’t wait for the “ barn raisin’ “
I wonder what the sliver-counter would say.... 🤔. 😂. Thanks for the video kris!
Stunningly beautiful workmanship … a thing of exquisite beauty
Fantastic work, guys!!! Looking forward to your beautiful barn! Wishing you a quick and full recovery of your overburdend back!
You let nothing stop you. Good man.
Stunning workmanship gents, can't wait to see it raised. Please do some time lapse of the project!!
Wow! Kris, yourself and the very , hard working crew have accomplished so much is a very short perioud of time! You are just about there! Barn raising time, weather pending and the creek dosn,t rise! Well done, Kris! You are are going to have a wing/ ding of a barn raising! Time for a bonfire and a big celebration 🍾!😀

A question I have is the swelling and shrinkage of the timbers.I think you addressed this earlier in your video, s.Any way ausum, job!
Congratz on 500k subs, doing a wonderful job !
So a nice long Amish summer day is coming up when everyone is coming together once more to put it all in its upright state ...? That will be a very pleasing clip. Looking forward. Thanks for sharing.
That is some timber frame crew! Glad I watched, as I'm building a shed and will be stealing that spline concept used to connect the beams at the post.
Brilliant work. Can't wait to see the barn go up.
Your property has come so far since the round house. So awesome to see all your projects. This barn is gonna be amazing. I’m in the planning phase of building a green house on my property next spring! Congrats on the frame being done!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Evening Kris. It’s been an absolute pleasure watching you & the team building what must be the most amazing barn build ever 👍🏻 Hopefully we’ll see Dot when you’re putting the barn up👍🏻
WONDERFUL.. TAKE A BREAK BRO. BE GLAD YUR NOT 60...LOLOL. I REMEMBER THOSE YOUNGER DAYS BUILDIN HOUSES WITH POPS, AND NOW IM PAYIN FOR IT. THERES NO WAY I LAST BUT A FEW HOURS ON A JOBSITE NOWADAYS, BUT IT SURE WAS FUN!!! THAT BARN WILL SURELY LOOK PROPER ON THAT HOMESTEAD RANCH... LOOKIN FORWARD TO SEEING THE STRUCTURE GOIN UP. ENJOY BE BLESSED.
Must feel a big relief that you were able to get out of the barn before the deadline. You have done an amazing job Kris, you and your boys ❤x
You are truly an awesome guy. Thank you for sharing your journey!
It's nice to see that the carpenter's profession hasn't died out
Nice job. When we built timber frame buildings here in the Pacific Northwest (USA), we used paste wax (cheap) to cover the end grain. The timbers dried out more gradually and we eliminated nasty cracking at the ends.
Better than anything on TV. Always enjoyable watching a project of this magnitude come together. And such old school skills on display. Thanks for the video.
I can't help thinking you all are going to be long gone before this building fades into history. Incredible project. And it's yours to use with pride.
These guys have gold in their hands! 👍👍👍
What, I have to wait _three weeks_ now to see the next bit? You did such a whopping job right at the end to move it all, you deserve the break!
Your videos have always been so interesting and a joy to watch you turn your talents into such wonderful and ecological projects!!!! But these barn build videos have been so so interesting, watch you basically harvest the wood and the seeing all of you guys craft the building in ways that are so ancient, the knowledge that this building will out last any modern construction and will look so beautiful as well…. I applaud you and all the guys, you truly are a talented group…..
All the comments are (rightly) praising the amazing work but all I have to say is that Nye is buff 💪
So looking forward to watching this barn be assembled 🎉
The quality of the workmanship is a joy to behold
Sweet! On to the next phase ... It's gona make great watching putting that barn up XO
Congrats to the timber team for not letting Kris on his own but helping through out the challenges.
Thank you Kris. The craftsmanship is amazing with the timber as well as the video. Just awesome!!!
Kris, Thx for another compelling video diary on this amazing project. Must say you found gems in those Timber Roots boys, true craftsmen. Hate to be one of those "you should" advice types but your wonderful lifestyle depends totally on your physical abilities so protecting your body is paramount. Rest is highly important and you would not regret using a back brace for heavy lifting as it will take a toll, protecting your lower back now will pay dividends down the years. Slow & Steady, wins the day every time 😉
This make me realise I will never build one🎉
They did such a profession job on the frames wow they look amazing. What a barn it will be for the next couple of hundreds of years to come. Good video Kris can wait to see it go up and you get the roof on asap before your weather turn bad.
Well done Kris - phenomenal effort and achievement!! Please, do take enough time now to get your back/shoulders fully recovered before you put any more stress on them.
How utterly exceptional! I just loved watching the ancient skill of timber framing while thinking way back to the pre electricity. Pre power tool days of saw pits and sweating armpits! Such superb work Kris congrats to you and all the team.
A true craftsmanship work of art . I was cringing watching you lift the beams .Weightlifting belts are dirt cheap .
Nice of the guys to let you film them. Must be difficult concentrating on the work with a camera hovering around plus the question. Professional team 👌
Careful with your back Chris, take care of yourself so you don't injure yourself.
What an awesome stack of (blood, sweat, and tears) crafted timber there! The lorry-let-down must have been SO frustrating, but you man-powered on. Awesome work.
So lovely to watch a team of proper craftsmen at work. Can't wait to see the final assembly.
It’s awesome you’re looking healthier again. Lots of hard work as taken it’s toll. I’m delighted to see life back in your face dear friend.
That is gonna be a massive, beautiful building. Can't wait to see the frame assembled.
Awesome content Love all the hard work Everything seems so heavy it’s no regular 2x4. 4x4 8x8 . . . Everything is so massive
Can't wait to witness the raising of this barn. Should be like the biggest IKEA build ever. Wonderful work.
Looks great. Can't wait to see it going up.
This is just totally magical and mesmerising; the whole thing. These guys (and you, Kris) are doing things that make every right-thinking, aspiring "maker" want to act and want to do things in some similar, wholesome, traditional way. I'm not sure I could ever achieve your level of tenacity (I'm 60 so it's kind of a given) but I'm damned sure I've achieved your level of appreciation of these wonderful young craftsmen..... and, as a bonus, they're such nice guys :o) The whole lot of you are deserving of HUGE admiration and NOTHING that you ever post will go unwatched or unappreciated by dedicated followers like me .... and, no doubt, the other half million + out there! :o) Bravo all round! I DO have projects coming up and I WILL be using some of the techniques you've shown us over the years .... but, mostly, I'll be trying to live up to your amazing example..... please e-mail me a large package of your enthusiasm and I'll use that as a starting point! GO, GO, GO! :o)
Another great video and I'm really looking forwards to see how you guys are going to get the barn up.
Impressive stuff. Those guys should offer their labour to the French to help with rebuilding Notre Dame.
Appreciate watching the craftsman ship!
can't wait to see it going up! I imagine it'll be like those Amish things you see in films! haha
I can't wait to see it all go together! The frame is going to be massive and beautiful as all your projects are. Great job to you and your team!
It is nice to see craftsmanship and the old way off construction still exists
What an epic amount of precision work all coming together! Congrats to you and the experts for a job well done so far, and I can't wait to see it going up! Hope your back gets a break for a bit -- those huge beams were no joke for just 2 people to sling around.
Well Kris. If it doesn't work out as a barn, it could always be used as a substantial and extremely attractive multi-storey car park!. Absolutely awesome build.
Really exciting to see how this is coming together.
looking foward to the building thank you Kris - supercool!!!
What an amazing job you all did. Do make sure not to have the plans inverted or you'll end up with a pretty good ship!
Hi Kris, just a line hope your all well and things are good, realised we mainly comment when you've posted, so this one is just to say thanks and take care.
Watching this build from the beginning I would say that this barn will be standing for over 4 centuries. It's going to be a beauty. Kris should let me people tour it to see this barn in it's early stages and how beautiful it will be to see. Wish I could see it. Jane,, Philadelphia
great to see such good craftsmanship thanks for sharing
Looking forward to seeing how you locate the posts on the footers, see how accurate your measuring has been. Amazing project
I could see you struggling to unload. Got that Tshirt. Good effort.
