Timber Framed Barn Part 12 Milling Milling And More Milling
The barn build is back on track after running out of timber. we will be starting back at the framing next week. we just have one more week of framing to do and then we can put the frame up.

I think what a lot of people might be forgetting is that he literally made that saw mill himself, using electricity from his renewable energy sources, which he all built himself. Bravo Chris !
It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s kzread.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.
The water wheel videos were the first ones I watched. Now I've gone back and am watching the rest of your videos.
It was nice of them to label the log "log" so there wasn't any confusion lol!

Hello Kris&Dot! A few weeks ago your greenhouse video hit my suggestions as I had watched a few Timber Frame projects by others recently. Looking at your channel page I found the first few barn episodes, watched them and then got Intrigued by your shop building. I binge watched the whole 79 episodes over a week or so, what a fantastic building! I haven't watched ALL your videos yet but will savor them in the coming weeks. I have the time to do so as I am battling terminal leukemia with it's attendant fatigue. I am a woodworker and electronics engineer forced to retire early, my interest in cool projects on channels such as yours keep me engaged and entertained. So you are doing me a great service by producing the documentaries of your life. Thanks from Portland, Or. USA!

Kris has designed a hydroelectric plant to help power his homestead and also built a windmill to generate more 💪. He built his own saw mill and a pile driver to put up fence posts. He is a very talented person! And he has Dot in his corner. Need I say more? Nope! All of his Playlist will help you through troubled times. 🫖📚🐈⬛🔭🕊🥧🐑🎩

Gosh I find these milling videos relaxing! Good non-complicated logic applied to the process, very nice and varied camera angles from the redoubtable Dot, and always a positive outcome helping towards the overall project goal! Great job!
So glad someone wrote “ LOG “ on that log 😂 would never have guessed it was a “ LOG “ in a million years 😂😉👍🏻.
What I like about your video is you don't just show us when all is going perfectly. You show us the side story, the adjustments, the required maintenance to make this a wonderful place to live! Love from Montréal One day, I will also live the dream!

Loving the inclusion of the milling videos as part of the overall process. Hats off to Dot for the excellent camera work too
I thought the bucket was crap when I first saw it. At the beginning of today's video I noticed that the area under your sawmill is astonishingly clean. After your comments at the end I am now Team Bucket. LOL!
Well done Kris for picking thru them logs and getting the best you can out of it. This project is very challenging and you and Dot are both doing a great job....
I always enjoy watching your channel, you and your lady have truely created a wonderful lifestyle, your lifestyle shows me a glimpse of a dream world I would love to build myself. Life can surely be hard sometimes and I do understand your frustration at times when things don't go as planned, but you always keep your head up and that path comes to you. Well done and thankyou once again as your channel takes me away to dream land. Always wishing you and your lady the best this world has to offer. M
Thank goodness for the spray painted description on the end of that long round wooden thing! I now know it's a 'log!9😂

Years of firewood included in creating timbers love it
Im glad someone wrote log on that log, so you know it is a log.
It was great to see "LOG" written there. Took all the doubt away :o)
Seeing others in high spirits is inspiring.
Incredible drive in this Human!
Being a smallholder myself I have to admire your drive and determination in pushing on through adversity. I’m astounded that you’re attempting a barn build of such large proportion, but know only to well that you’ll fill it quicker than you build it ! Keep up with the fantastic work, I have a hundred and one questions but I’ll contact you later when the barn is up, think you’ve got enough on at the moment. You have inspired me to build my own barn, many thanks for sharing your ideas and work.
Thanks Kris. It is remarkable how much I look forward to your project videos. My favorite KZread channel. -Also, my mother’s name was Dorothy.
Wow that sawdust bucket really is a phenomenon
Always funny when you prove the doubters wrong 😂
Dot is surely a keeper, treat her like a Queen.
I've seen so much people here commenting on Dorothy. She is much more of attraction than you new barn . I've learn a lot with your videos, Thank u so much
hard work there Kris, good to have two extra hands though, as allways thank you!!!!
It's nice to see there are still parts of England which look like England.

I can't wait for the water wheel. VERY EXCITE.
Ah Kris. The amazing thing is - even though I have seen you milling lots of logs over the last few months, it's the first time tonight that I realised that the first of your videos I ever watched was building that mill. It's still an amazing machine - built with love - and it still does an amazing job.

OMG I didn't realise that Kris had actually built that Mill!!! I should have known better now I'm going to have to go back and find the videos where he did that.
Must be an exhausting day after manhandling, and womanhandling, all those logs about. I love the feel and smell of fresh sawdust! Thank goodness someone labelled the LOG, I'd have had no idea what it was otherwise... :D
Keep your head down and move forward. That’s all you can do. We will be here watching 👍🏻
Brilliant machine, fab camera work. Ace video.😊
The barn is going to be fantastic... hard work...but amazing job by you and the carpenters
Kris, you are inspiring! Love watching what ever you are doing. Small steps over time equal a beautiful barn in the near future!
It's good to see they marked it 'LOG' to avoid confusion

DONT LET THE PEOPLE IN THE CEMENTS GET TO YOU👍👍👍 most of the are half the man you are.
I liked how you used a plywood template attached to end of log to identify the size of timber you were creating and centred on the preferred heartwood.
I like watching the milling stuff too... wow didnt realise the logs could be flawed in such a way.
Haha I’ve always thought that bucket was crap! But fair play! Point proven 😂
Looks so satisfying, I have only used a Peterson saw mill which can only do 8” beams , was a most memorable day

Ha! Serves me right for typing a comment half way through the video. Thank you for addressing a - very small - point that has bugged me for ages 🤣🤣🤣
Hi there. Love the vids and your enginuity! Small tip/trick is to cover the mill with turtle wax hybrid sealant spray. Especially the slide rails. Not only does it protect From rain but it makes it much more mud resistant and easy to slide I use it on every vehicle and machine on the farm. Especially the windows. As well as windows and mirrors in the home. Outside windows stay amazingly clean Pretty much any surface to improve glide and water mud snow resilience. Game changer!
Well done both, hard work bribnis it own reward.
They little Kubota tractor and your lovely assistant have been worth the weight in gold to your endeavours .
Bucket for the Win. 😃 Grt vid. Thx a lot. Love your attitude. ✌🏻
Hi Kris. I love watching your videos.
Just class, !! Was always wondering about that bucket 😂.
Really great enjoyable video Kris thanks chap !
Every video you put out is a gem in itself. Not repetitive at all! Question Kris: you are still receiving patreon donations? I don't expect perks in return or anything but your patreon page looks a bit quiet, hence why I ask. Just making sure you get access to funds to see this barn through (and more!). Thanks for being an inspiration and all the effort you put into showing us your work
When it bows up like that we call it 'timber-bound' around here (SE Alaska)!
so excited for that waterwheel project
Lucky they labelled that log for you. Hard to be sure what it is without the label.
Your bucket, on your saw mill you built yourself, milling your wood, to build your barn, you are building yourself. If the bucket does what you want then all is fine😊
Great video Kris and Dot. Always look forward to seeing what is going on at your place. Nice seeing the sunshine and not the rain. I never realized how much goes into timber framing and you record it very well. Thank you!
1:10 Best machine ever.
Another great video from you, thanks and keep them coming soon.
I can't tell you how cool it is to see how the old timers builded.
Really informative video! Kris, you have mentioned before - and briefly shown - log defects but this is the first time you have explained in detail and shown how the defects ARE defects and what the effect the defects have on milling structural lumber. Sap pockets; ring shake; heart shake - just some of what you taught viewers about today. Totally fascinating, even though I have seen every video during which you are milling. One of my favorite parts of any video is when you give viewers your pleased-with-your-work smile. That smile was on full display as you showed the beginnings of the water wheel project. So glad the project is doing well enough to earn the pleased smile.
Exciting and terrifying, a day in the life of Kris Harbour 😉
Haha...every time you do some milling, I'm thinking "Kris...the bucket...sort the bucket out". But like you said, one bucket full per cut, so it's actually perfect for the job. Project progressing nicely. Another month and your barn will start coming to life. Really looking forward to the build. Great work as always, Kris.
Something about cutting Round logs into square timbers is satisfying. Awesome job you two.
This video, more than any other for some reason, really made it hit home how much you do and have to do. So much wood processing and so much involved in maintaining the equipment and overcoming hurdles. Phew.
That would be the perfect time for a small PTO driven generator and a couple hooks to hang your welding cart on the tractor.
👍👌👏 Yes, Sir! I totally agree that the sawdust bucket works well! And not only that! In fact you seem to be the only bandsaw sawyer on utube caring about collecting the saw dust. All the others have piles beside and under the sawmills. It sometimes even distracts the rail system. And if the sawdust gets wet, it does rot fast and becomes quite slippery. 2) I would so much like to see someone making wood briquettes and/or wood pellets out of all the sawdust. Those products sell very well although they have become quite expensive. And if not produced for selling, one can use the pellets/briquettes for heating purposes himself. There are a lot of pellet pressing devices shown on utube. My favourite are the ones that make ~ 7cm diameter pellets (shaped like little cakes). I bet that you are able to build such a press (because of your ingeniouity and your machine park). Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you (including the cute cat of course).

Dear @@esthermae8710 👍👌👏 Yes, you are right of course. But look at the big pile he already has. I know that they use it for the chicken coop floor as litter. Sawdust can also be put in the compost etc.p.p.. But all this is not so interesting than making pellets. 😁 :-) 2) Maybe Mr. Harbour will have a sawdust storage box at or in the new barn? It must be kept dry or it degrades relatively fast. Best regards, luck and health in particular.
kris i think your doin a fantastic job wow wait till the barn is up the jobs you can do in there

I always look forward to your videos. We could sit and watch glue dry and it would be fine with me...provided you had some narrative about the whys and wherefores, etc. Yes! Got my finger's crossed for you.
Great job video. I have a very manual old mill....I feel your pain lol... I am fortunate I don't have wait for timber.....I cut them down as I mill them from our property. Awesome work bud!
I’m well jealous of your firewood, I’ve got to start collecting mine soon, when I have the time.
due is a modern Einstein.
As far as the bucket I think a linemans electrode bag would suit you a lot better for collecting wood chips and dust. You can get them in many sizes.
Love it keep it up as always 💘
Really excited about the water wheel, no one seems to be able to get them to work effectively, knowing how much you enjoy a challenge I'm sure you've done all the calculations and it'll work perfectly.
