Timber Framed Barn Part 15 Raising Continues
This week we have been carrying on with the barn raise. I had ben and sam to help (but not at the same time) and in 5 days we managed to get two frames up and do two of the floor sections. its much slower then using a machine or crane but its much more enjoyable. But we find its hours of preparation then just a few minis to put the frame up. It is all going together very well and it feels very safe.

Looks like Wales is going to get a new Cathedral let alone a barn, an absolutely fantastic build. 👍🤗

I am 80 and these videos are the highlight of my weekend, better than the rubbish you get on TV. great work.
I can't quite believe that all these years later, after watching the first bit of cob on the roundhouse, that you are not just still making videos, but that they get progressively more complex and ambitious, made possible by the experiences and skills learning that we've witnessed with our own eyes. If ever anyone wonders what they might be able to learn, and do, they just need to watch your channel from day one. Your growth is so inspiring to me precisely because it feels like such an achievable human experience - for me your channel is a showcase for achieving progress through consistent action and embracing mistakes. Such a privilege that you've shared it all with us, and offer such a solid example of what's possible. Cheers, Kris.
I’m 80, and can no longer do your type of construction because of health issues, but just watching you is so satisfying and enjoyable.

This construction really highlights the brilliance of Howard and his crew and the way they have cut such wonderful joints into so many timbers from plan.

Superb effort all round Kris. Please watch your back when shifting those beams at ground level mate all it takes is one bad lift and your build will grind to a halt. Use mechanical assistance wherever possible even if it means an extra 20 minutes here and there.

Little by little, inch by inch. By the yard it's hard, but by the inch it's a cinch. This big, beautiful work of art is coming along. Love watching the progress.

Kris's cathedral is coming on very nicely. It's going to be huge !!! And hats off to young lad helping out; doig a great job.
Hi kris. I have been working in the building and joinery work for many years, now retired I’m missing the joinery but watching you build the new barn is very therapeutic. In my mind you're a skilled young man and while you’re working on the barn your partner (Dot) is feeding the animals you both are a great inspiration. I love watching your videos so no matter what you’re doing just keep them coming. Keep well and safe. Regards David.
This is just amazing . Two men in the usual lousy British weather constructing a barn that will most likely be standing 400 years from now. Mt hat is off to you Kris. If i was not 70 and left that crappy weather behind over 40 years ago i would be honored to come and help. P.S. THE OLD TIMERS WOULD HAVE GIVEN THEIR RIGHT ARM FOR JOIST HANGERS . AS YOU SAID EVERY PIECE YOU TAKE OUT OF A BEAM WEAKENS IT ,I HAVE SPENT YEARS REINFORCING MY HOUSE FLOORS BECAUSE OF 150 YEAR OLD BUILDING TECHNIQUES.
Chris, firstly a huge well done. Ive been following you for years now. This is absolutely amazing what you've achieved!! Keep going buddy
You don’t do things by half measures do you, I have to say everything you do is mighty bloody impressive. Top work 👍
Another awesome video from you guys, the build is coming on leaps and bounds.
That structure will be around longer than any of us. Great project Kris.
I'm amazed by this project. So much forethought went into the design. Incredible work
Loving every minute of this build. It is looking beautiful Kris. Shout out to Sam and Ben for their help...glad you have good people around willing to help with the build. Can't wait to see next week's video :)

I take great pleasure in seeing your very fine work. So well and very skilfully done, it will surely be a great pleasure for both of you.
Excellent progress!
Kris, I haven't been commenting a lot recently, but I've been watching all the videos for this barn build. What an incredibly time consuming process! I was fastinated by the joinery videos with the guys you hired. I've always fancied myself a wood worker, but all that timber framed joinery is a whole new level. And like you said, watching the pieces go up is quite different from seeing them laying down in the barn. It's going to be an incredible building, and I can't wait to see more!
I love seeing this barn go up! Every 30 min episode feels like 10 minutes and I need more, I'm barn addicted now 😆 Keep the good work up, the barn its amazing!

Been here since the beginning, love what you’re doing. Hope all is well.
Amazing work you have done so far in the barn build and looking forward to the next episode!!

Great work, Kris! I’m proud to be a tiny patron supporter to you. I have watched you from me beginning. Really amazing. Cheers from Colorado USA.
My dad put up his first pole barn 40x80. I was born 1950 I was 4-5 years old. It stayed up till 2008. We used as dairy barm calf pens overhead bean storage and milking stalls. Later he added a lean to to one side and that held milk cows in winter. Plus we added 2 more large pole barns on 160 acres dairy farm. We used center to store tractors and hay. Never forget my dad climbing to top of barn in his 70’s like a monkey. Great looking barn. ❤❤❤
Absolutely brilliant Kris, it looks astounding, wow. All that planning/work etc is paying off. Really good lifting techniques. Well done and stay well.
Nothing quite like the feeling of looking at something and thinking "I have done a thing!!!!" Well done Chris and Ben.
Such a privilege to witness this all the way from the idea to implementation! Would love to see a cost breakdown in the future, keep up the great work! Already looking forward to next week's video 🙏
Half of me is gutted you haven't morticed those floor joists in, the other half knows the pain. Great work, great videos. Keep slogging!
Kris ... it shows how much time you had to put into this build to have things go together as smooth as they are. props to you for your hard work up front and it is paying off for you in the long run .... great job, can't wait to see it completed.
Kris, you and all your helpers should have a bloody good barn raising party when you are done! IIn 50 years you will be able to look at it and say "I built that". Bloody well done!
Beautiful. Very impressive. Absolutely loving this series
Ahh. Chris, its looking great! Bigger than I imagined! What a masterpiece.
Beautiful Kris. The accuracy of the manufacturing of components is so rewarded in the final assembly. The building site looks like it would 500 years ago minus the tractor and the Land Rover. Kind regards from Pete. Australia.
That winch is awesome! I have huge issues getting my oversize power poles in the ground, but I doubt I can build something that cool!
It really is such an amazing looking structure. I'm really enjoying seeing the progress being made with this project. Well done Kris 👍
I was wondering how the barn build was coming on, fascinating to watch the journey. Nice one Lads👍
Kris, Your work is impeccable. The time-honored ways of doing things are extremely gratifying from this end and am sure it is the same on your end. Thank you for choosing to do the entire job of creating, milling, carpentry with the crew you worked with in creating the truss assembly, and now the assembly on site. Saving money on all aspects of your dream makes things possible without draining the entire bank account. Your reward will stand as a hallmark to your skills and love of the "old ways".
Thank you for going back to 'your' way of doing things. You have nice friends that are helping you. I have a huge interest in what you are doing but due to a few shitty life things and a horrible accident I will never be able to do it for myself. Keep posting as much as you can manage, everything, animals, fencing, repairs, maintenance, I can't get enough. Thank you again.
You continue to amaze me Kris. That barn is going to be just incredible when it's done, and true work of handcrafted art and I hope you are as proud of yourself as I, a complete stranger, are of you. Keep up the brilliant work!!
The beauty of this building just amazes me. Thank you for filming the raising.
Brilliant! Shaping up to be "a thing of beauty" ... Excellent job!
I have waited all week for this episode. I sit here in awe watching the work being done and how natural timber is formed to fit so perfectly. The other thing that really makes me think of your ability is the machines you build to enable you to put the barn together. Ah well I have to wait another week for the episode.
This is amazing and the barn is going to be a work of art. You are a blessed man to have friends that are willing to help you build this barn. Friends like these men are rare and you should plan on doing something special for them to show your appreciation. When this barn is finished you really need to have the news outlets come and do a story or program showing just how amazing a structure this is and have all the people involved be there for the recognition they all deserve.
That little red tractor must get the most bang for the buck of nearly any piece of equipment on youtube, more uses than you could ever imagine!
Really appreciate you putting in the time to film as can’t be easy when you’re just wanting to crack on. Thanks, amazing workmanship cheers
I know nothing about building with wood but you clearly have a good grasp on all things woodworking
How satisfying to see your mental creation becoming reality. Thank you for sharing your work.
I am really enjoying this build like your workshops. It is starting to look epic. Can't wait for the next installment.
It's starting to look like a barn. Once everything is put together it's going to be a grand sight to behold.
Looking very impressive! Looks like you’re being as safe as possible! That’s Kris! That your help for me! Dots looks busy too! Awesome job!👏
Watching that coming together is pure pleasure. Well done Kris!
Really nice to see it being done in an old school way how things it should be done with some pride & workmanship.
I am loving the barn build. ❤❤❤from Michigan 🇺🇸
All I can do is smile and watch 😎 Brilliant build Kris . 😎
Who needs a load of people like in the film “Witness”, to erect a large barn? When only two people can do it with hard work and determination. Church windows as well, my imagination is working overtime, I very much look forward to seeing these. Great job and also taking the time to document a quality video diary 😎👍
My brother and I just finished raising my timber frame. You are correct, it appears so much bigger standing than when it's being cut or fitted on the ground. This will give you a sense of satisfaction every time you step in the building.
Good steady progress Kris, well worth the effort creating something that makes you smile for years to come and the hard work has faded although rembered but more importantly, satisfying. 👍😎☮️
You never fail to impress me with your skills fella! Would love something like this in my garden.
Good helpers anticipate. Tricky when you're not the one who designed it! You've got two good mates there! What a great addition to your farm this will be!
Incredible work as always! Many thanks for sharing!
Kris I think it was a wise idea with the metal braces for the floor, giving the whole structure a little more rigidity. I am sure this is going to be another fantastic structure on your small holding. I can't wait till you build your new house on site in the near future. Keep up the good work and please stay safe guys.
Wow what a great job- you guys amaze me with your skills! Can’t wait for the next few weeks videos- Great job with the videos also!!
Awesome. Absolutely addicted to this project.
Spectacularly good! Never did 33 minutes of viewing pass so quickly! Great job!
Loving seeing this come together now. Already see it’s going to be a stunning build when finished
Thoroughly enjoying watching this beautiful barn go up.. thanks for sharing
What an amazing project. I can't believe you have been assembling with just 2 dudes in the rain.
This type of building structure was developed over centuries to be able to be erected without the use of a crane. You have shown us just how it can be done with minimal fuss and maximum exertion.Great job and be safe 👍
Fantastic progress Kris - is a joy to see it coming along. Pragmatism wins the day in respect of the joist hangers, definitely the best decision under the circumstances. All the best 😎👍👌
Starting to look really good Kris. Loving the Joinery. Great job. Impressive. Well done Team. :)
Amazing job, a piece of art in the making. After watching each video I always get the urge to get some diy done. Well done all involved 👏
Wonderful build you've got going on! I am very glad that you have Dot, Sam, Ben, Tigger, and good neighbors! Having good mates makes the work go so much better. Blessings on you all!🖖🫖🐈⬛📚🇺🇲
Kris, what a beautiful structure. It's a tribute to your skill and vision.
Your capacity for hard yakka and thinking big continues to amaze me! Great going Kris.
I take back what I said last time. It's bigger than huge. And this is just one quarter of it. Beautiful workmanship and excellent teamwork.
It was time for this structure; as you said in an earlier video (planning) you needed somewhere to house the Landy, van, tractor & other machines as well as having somewhere for the lambing, hay etc. When plan A 'fell over' plan B has given us -- your followers -- some interesting footage to enjoy. Two guys building a monster barn! Impressive! Thanks again Kris for sharing your efforts.
Great video Kris, Always nice to see the wind turbine spinning away in the background 👍
Hi Kris. It is a great example of how media technology can warp reality. We see the work of days/weeks in just a few minutes and the impression is that it is easy to do so. Only when someone did such work himself the dimensions become clear and the weight of your challenges. My deepest sympathies and greetings from Dubai. Martin
lovin it from down under... smiles .. living vicariously here here ....
You are right....!! It is a beast...! A very beautiful beast. You have done such an outstanding job getting this thing build. What a great asset to you operation it is going to be. Good on ya Kris....!
Kris ,this is such brilliant, uplifting work you are so resourceful ingenious and determined.Just love it!
Each dowel hammered home must feel so good. It’s a huge building and achievement.
What an epic project this is! Hugely inspirational. Don't feel bad about the joist hangers, you've thought it through and it was a sensible solution!
Magnificent. Absolutely bloody magnificent! The scale, the design, the engineering, the build process with all but a medieval tool set. Hats off!
Well done an excellent hand built barn which will in centuries to come look how we should’ve built stuff.
Absolutely love watching you and the guys at work. Inspirational is to small a word. There is hope for the future. Well done kris. I am already excited for the next instalment.
That's fantastic, Kris. Your lifting contraptions are quite ingenious. You've saved yourself more than a few bob there by not hiring equipment. It all looks medieval and just goes to show that brain power and ingenuity can overcome most things. That's how they did it years ago and you're living proof that it still works. Well done you and your team.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series, Kris. I must say I always enjoy your content but this barn series is especially enjoyable, mate!
It is looking good Kris, Ben & Sam. You must be so pleased!
Looks so good! I know the feeling you have when you put something up and can stand on your own builded floor. Its so great. Keep going on with all that fantastic work.
Hi Kris I picked up on your video's about 6 weeks ago since then I have done nothing but binge watching I think I I have nearly caught up what a fantastic job you are doing.i think the health and safety will be on your back but I think you are doing a fantastic job and how you do it is your business 😊😊
Impressive, Kris. I imagine that barn will still be standing a couple centuries from now. 👍
A simple thumbs up is not enough for how this is turning out. I'll say it again, I'm glade you are doing this your self instead of having "pros" doing it with a crane.
your work ethic and craftsmanship .is just sublime i cant wait till this is done have a well earned break Kris .catch you on the next video.
Wow Kris! This really is a structure of great beauty. Well done, and God bless you.
Crazy what you've achieved. Good job mate
Looking good Kris. Can't wait to see the windows. Thanks for bringing us along.
