Timber Framed Barn Part 21 Main Framing Complete
In this video I finish the purlins on the lean to. part of it was using timber the same as the other ones on the building but there was one art that has a very large span. I could not get or mill timbers long enough so I decided to use some steel RSJ's and make them tie in to the timber.
Hope you enjoy the video.

Hello Kris, bit of a request. Could you do an update video please. When ever you mention the rain I always think yeah we have had a lot lately, wonder how his hydro system is doing and also the turbine with all the wind. Then you do drone footage I view your land wondering about the trees you planted and how the pond is.

From what you can see on the left of the video at a few points the wind turbine is laid down. Hopefully just for needed maintenance and not for repairs. Probably a good time to do maintenance since his hydro system is probably running at full capacity with all the rain.
I just want to take a moment to thank Dot for her great camera work.

Manhandling heaviest stuff with as few people as possible requires heavy planning and constant thinking ahead. I admire Your ingenuity as much as Your deliberation. May You stay healthy and successful!

Dan, on Escape to Rural France (yt), uses a mechanical lifter w a winding handle. It carefully lifts heavy materials up the chateau for him. Perhaps easier and no fuel compared to a tractor.
Hello Kris from San Antonio, Texas....i binge watched all of your videos and i must say you are a true tradesman. How you have learned and advanced your skills is just amazing. One note, you better put a ring on Dot before she gets away...cheers
Forget about the shop Kris let this be your dream home…beautiful work brother 👍👍
The shot of backing up the hill with the frame in the back was gold. Great job Dot!
The way Kris works is truly an art form of balance and symmetry. ❤😊
An "uplifting" episode. 😉 Nicely done as usual Kris.

Kris, your work ethic, and quality of work never fail to impress me sir! The things you have accomplished since starting this channel, and largely by yourself too, is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journy with all of us, I really enjoy everything you work on.
Kris you're engineering and problem solving skills are phenomenal. Love the content, learn so much from every one
Amazing! I really enjoy watching you build your farm. From the first videos of the roundhouse to this massive building. I can't wait to see what you have planed for your house.

As far as I know the plans for the house are still a bit fluid, depending on how successful the designs of the roundhouse, earthbag-workshop and this barn will prove to be over time. Don't know why, but somehow I'm starting to feel like it's gonna be something that makes the Taj Mahal look like an old shed...

Agreed, Dot is a star. We would love to see her day to day working with the animals and garden!
For what its worth, your achievements really inspre me to get cracking. Watching is very relaxing no american drama, just quiet excitement. Well done lad
It’s amazing to see the contrast of how weathered the boards look from the oldest to the new. Getting close to having a roof is very exciting Kris. I also agree with some of the comments about some updates on your projects around the property. Great work as always, way to keep after it, thanks for continuing to share!
Dear kris,I admire the way u figured everything and nothing stop u.may u have long life to continue enjoying all that is in your mind. All the best dear.
It’s still blows my mind how much work u do solo 😊😊 keep up the amazing work ❤
Farm animals can be picky about shelters...feel your sheep are going to be healthy - deflecting any weather lows (in such a strong structure if get storms, etc). Or during lambing stay connected to regular "work" living with a timber framed barn. Excited to see your animals use it 🐑
Congratulations on the watermill video a while back Kris. 1.4 mil views is incredible! Heres to hoping that 2024 brings more fortune like that!
💖💖💖💖💖💖What a monumental feat, today. WELL DONE, Chris.
Spellbinding! Fantastic, Kris. I was a bit concerned about you slipping in the wet weather. Here in Thailand, my area has had no rain in weeks. But when it does come it will be warm rain. Your Man Friday is a great asset and you work as a team. Let's hope for some dry weather for you. I love your videos.
As usual Kris you undertook a job that I was sure you would not manage with just the two of you - and as usual you proved me wrong. And as I always say - amazing - your work is outstanding and I look forward to the next stage(s).
Absolutely freakin' amazing -- I couldn't even walk away when you were putting up those RSJs. The bread had to rise a bit longer! The whole thing looks SO damn good too! Kudos to you and Dot for living the dream and being willing to film it and share it with us!
Hi mate ... retired carpenter. I used to build Barns and cricket pavilions etc back in the day. Enjoy every minute of your life my friend. You have a great life. Wishing you well, great work by the way. Just keep your tools sharp!
I never cease to be amazed at what skill you will acquire next, Kris. Each new episode is a pleasure to watch.
Genius method of using the clamps to guide the purlins on to the frame! "Soft days" are what an Irishman told me those kind of days are - just cold, clouds, and mist. We've been having plenty of those days in Tennessee too.
Precarious but kudos for getting it done, and to the old timer helping lift those heavy beams
Kris, it's Superbowl Sunday here in the USA. I don't know when the game is or who's playing. Instead, I'm very happily watching you build your barn. Thank you for doing what you do and bringing us along.
Hello Kris! Your videos have helped me so much with my projects - thank you very much! Love, what you do!
That’s some fancy tractor gymnastics!
Absolutely amazing work - this is ASMR for those of us who like to work with our hands - I could watch this all day :)
Such precision joinery! And then all the rigging and heavy lifting to put everything in place! You have a lot to be very proud of!
I am SUPER IMPRESSED!!! You got ALL 4 STEEL BEAMS up with MINIMAL HELP!!! Yes you couldn't have done it without the 2nd person, but you still did ALL the work!!! CONGRATS On this HUGE MILESTONE!!! Only 2 major steps (roofing and outer walls) before the weather is MUCH LESS of a factor!!! - I am SO HAPPY that I came across your channel!! YOU ROCK!
Such a brave man showing his welds on KZread!
You’ve come a long way from the very beginning. Well done amazing hard work. Thank you for sharing
Hi Kris. Great work on the barn. I love the way the wood colour has changed on the timber you have already installed. Hope everything is OK re the hospital visits etc. Seán in Armagh Ireland
INCREDIBLE....I'm always blown away...Cheers...rr Normandy, France
Better weather and later evenings, always welcome, always more productive.
“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world." Kris, salutations to a man out standing in his field, haha. But seriously, you are brilliant. May your site continue to be accident-free. Best wishes from Australia 🦘
Great job! The drone is a treasure, and takes vocal instructions. Also, the train accident, from missing couple of rail tracks, are not related to the barn ... it was brave decision
Awesome work! Great progress...Looking forward to the garden updates when it's time,,,
Many thanks, love to see how you manage the big bits of wood on your own. Some genius solutions.
Looking fantastic, it's getting there, what an achievement when it's finished.
Amazing achievement Kris. it's really taking shape. Well done.
❤ back again because it was so good 2 watch the first time.
Man, this barn is looking absolutely awesome! So insanely impressed to see what you've made, especially considering what you started out with all those years ago! Gotta say, tho, when I see that drill bit flex that much, especially that close to your face, it *really* triggers my Safety Susan instincts! 🤣I work almost exclusively with metals and HSS drill bits that would shatter under a fraction of those loads, so I assume it's made from a softer alloy or is treated in a way that can withstand it? (Also, fun fact: HSS bits are actually made of billions of tiny nanomachines that activate when a bit shatters, all of them working together to make sure every single piece of shrapnel flies directly at your face! Technology is amazing! 🥰)
Absolutely amazing job fitting and lifting those RSJ's up with the two of you! Barn is looking fantastic!
Looking amazing. It is remarkable what you have achieved. Step by step, no time wasted. Bravo. Phenomenal. ❤
That is one tough Old Timer.
Sir,you are a very clever man
Impressive work, as ever (Just a thought. I'm not a rich man but occasionally I will buy a pint for someone 🙂. I'm not seeing a Super Thanks button though. If you don't have it set up it might be worth doing to give folk the quick option.)
Looking good buddy! 👌🏻 can’t wait to see it roofed out. Keep grafting 💪🏻
All the heavy framework is in place! A great milestone
I’m really enjoying this build. You are an inspiration.
Thats real craftmanship.
MOST EXCELLENT KRIS, DIGGIN THE JOINERY AND SUPER KLEEN ARC WELDS. ROOFTIME... WOOHOO!!! BE BLESSED YA ALL, THE FARM LOOKS AMAZING.👌👌👍👍🙏🙏💪🪚🪚🔨🔨
Nice to see that you employed the tractor for safer heavier lifting.
I've got spring fever too. Nice to see Dot working on the garden!
Kris, great job, you are truly a very talented man.
Tremendous, Kris! Love the ingenuity and engineering for mechanical advantage: alls you need is a tractor, some rope and chain, a pully or three, and a septuagenarian! It's looking truly epic!
Great vid Chris amazing to see the barn progress
Told you it was a cathedral, brilliant build Kris and your ingenuity level is off the scale. 👍
The roof!!! that's a huge step and accomplishment! nicely done sir
Great Strides! Fantastic Kris, looks great!
Welcome back!! Great to see the work has restarted on the barn build. This is what got me watching your videos in the first place. As you can see it's one small step at a time that culminates in the bigger finished work. The choice of using metal purlins was a no brainier as it turned out to be the right way to solve the spanning issue. Sounds a bit cliche but can't wait to see the next video! Respectfully, Me southern AZ. (USA)
I really look forward to your videos Kris. This one had a definite "hobbit in the woods" start 🙂
Thanks Kris! Garden looks great Dot! Epic vlog! Appreciate! Looking great!
And the sun comes out 😊 Well done!
Well done Kris, I was just thinking, all the building has been done with you & Sam, you & Dot, or you & the old chap and not always in the best of conditions and never with the best of equipment, sometimes a bit scary to watch too, just shows to go you what can be achieved by hard work and determination allied to a lot of intelligence.
Been waiting for a new Barn video and you deliver as usual. Did not expect steel beems but it worked out well!
Hi Kris 😊 That barn is looking 👀 awesome 🙌
Amazing. Love the mix of metal and wood.
Great video Kris really enjoyed watching this ❤
Love how you're always looking out for your lady and keeping safety in mind, you're a true inspiration and I wish you the best!
Really see the scale of the building with your land rover parked inside the building..❤huge 😊 love your channel keep up the good work..And thanks for sharing..
Great video. Not sure if you have realised but now to can run a block on the beam with rollers. Great open space undercover with a block & tackle on rollers.
Well done, Kris, Well Done!! Impressive work.
Blue skies are nice to see!
Your videos are awesome. Cheers from NH, USA.
You're an absolute machine Kris 🤖
Every time I watch a video I am impressed. I know that when someone like you who is self taught and is kind doesn't need much encouraging or congratulations for what you accomplish, but you deserve it anyway. It is amazing what you and Dot have created almost out of nothing. I am 81 and love to see what you are up to every time a video appears. Best wishes from Houston.
Wow! What a beautiful building! I’m as pleased as you are to see it coming along so well. Your channel is a premium view in my opinion , for educational production value as well as entertainment.
I fell so much respect for you living your dream, and not only talking about it in a pub what you missed in live. Always a pleasure to see a video from you.
looking forward to the next instalment son
Yet another epic video Kris - very impressive the way you tackled getting the RSJs in place. Best wishes.
Great video as always, thanks!
Thanks for sharing your projects with us! I always enjoy watching you figure out how to accomplish difficult tasks with the equipment and resources you have - love watching you work with wood and steel!
Kris I have been watching for a very long time and you keep amazing me. You are so clever and talented.
Absolute joy to watch you work ...fantastic brain you have and such skills 👏👌
I dread the winter as summer ends. I spend all winter looking forward to summer. lol.
Great solution. Looking forward to seeing the roof go on.
Huge leap forward!! That was hard work and well done! Phil
Partnership at you and Dot exhibit is truly impressive. The way you work within your limits but pretty close to your limits enables you to achieve a beautiful system congratulations to the both of you
I really dont know what to say...other than inspirational and just admire your ability. Well done. Peace and love.
Impressed Kris ! Heavy Work, .... Heavy Work ! ! Looking forward to the Rafters, Boarding, Sarking, Cladding, and it's all finished ! !
Necessity is the mother of invention, and ingenuity, making the most out of what ya got to work with. Good job as always .
Nicely done. With the shed roof framed in you really get to see the beautiful shape of the barn come to fruition. Looking forward to seeing the roofing going on. Thanks for the video.
The temple construction continues! :)
