Timber Framed Barn Part 18 Main Roof Purlins
In this video me and Raf finish the main roof purlins and then I fit some blocks to the back of them for additional support. Thanks to Sam and Raf for the help. this would have been a very challenging job without them.

Wow the size of this project is stunning. Just amaizing work. I imagine distant relatives showing the videos of how it was built a 100 years ago. THis will stand for a long time.

It’s people like you that we should admire, not celebrities that just sit around half of the day. I think you underestimate the mental impact your videos have on a lot of people, personally I look up to you to help me keep motivated and do something with my life.

Thank you.
Made my day when I saw the notification popped up for this video.
It shows the kind of person you are Chris when you live on a big bit of land surrounded by fields and you still care about your neighbours by not being really loud on a Sunday and bank holiday. Your a really cool dude sir 👍 great work as always
Kris, as a new father to a wonderful six month old boy, your channel has not only given me a great way to relax but its also imparted wisdom you may not have intended. Watching your slow and well planned method of working with your hands, as well as the patience and grace you show yourself whilst dealing with failures or mistakes is incredibly applicable when it comes to my newfound joy (and challenge) in fatherhood. I've been watching some older videos while waiting for new content to release, and something you said while fixing the water damage issue with your lower workshop wall really sums up the inspiration I find quite well. " Over the years a lot of people have asked me, what if this, what if that ... And the answer is: I'll fix it. There's no other choice." From a viewer across the pond, thank you for what you do, I hope you keep doing it for as long as it brings you joy. Godspeed
that timelapse reversing up the entire track was quite the flex. well done.
You great grand children will be playing in this barn, due to its craftsmanship and quality of work. It’s incredible what you are building. The scale and complexity of the project is mind boggling. You are a very intelligent, creative and hard working man. Kudos to you and your impressive accomplishments on developing your farm.

Respect for you Chris for saying that you don't like to make too much noise on a bank holiday or Sunday. That is an old fashioned traditional value, rooted in respect for others, that is all too often sadly lacking today.
Look forward to having a barn dance in there.
This barn will stand 1000 years !
such a beautiful barn...enjoying your artistry so much. Kris you are a true gift...just seeing what you create. Thank you
The thing I hate about this channel, is when the episode ends you’ll have to wait for the next one😂 The barn is starting to look amazing. Great job!💪

Now this beast is starting to take shape, I am visualising the stained glass windows in situ, I know it’s a way off yet, but they will look sooo good. Congratulations Kris and team on making such a captivating barn construction series of film diaries, great job 😎👍
Looking great Kris. It's a building anyone could be proud of.
That's the beauty of wood all the wobbles are natural and add to overall beauty of the building less clinical more alive and breathing. Brilliant video. Cheers Mick
You have every reason to be proud of yourself, don't know if you are self taught or not but that barn is coming along nicely. Well done.

I believe he is all self taught. Its incredible what he is doing. Have you watched his greenhouse construction videos. It’s such a beautiful structure, including an interior, natural spring.
Reminds me of a Church . Awesome job Kris 👏 n helper 🌟👍🏻
Good day Kris, may suggest that you put a ball hitch on the front of your Land Rover, much easier to manage. Great job Dot and Kris on the videos!

He manages quite well with just the rear hitch as you should be able to if you’re towing a trailer.

That would be handy.
I loved that you said you were pretty good with trailers. I think I speak for everyone here, when I say that you’re pretty good at everything. The barn is looking great 🌈
That was some superb trailer reversing!
Kris I've said it before, you are living the dream buddy, jealous, but keep up living your amazing life.
Great job! Your videos have inspired me to start to think about mowing my lawns!
That barn will be there for centuries.
This building is absolutely beautiful. A hundred years from now people will be commenting on how well it was built and the building will be a example for people to see the workmanship of you and the other craftsman who contributed to building this amazing structure. It's got to be a great feeling knowing something you've built will still be standing and impressing people for many years if not centuries in the future. I would take the time to brand your name and the date this barn was constructed so future generations will be able to know who built this structure. Knowing people in the future will see the amount of skill and craftsmanship it took to build this barn and will be able to see who built the barn must be a wonderful feeling knowing you will be remembered long after you've passed on. My father once told me that if people remember you that you will never be gone. That would be a wonderful feeling knowing people in the future will remember who you were.
Fantastic skill s you’ve learned over a very short period of time Kris 👏👏👏👏👍
Incredible work a nd craftmanship. Well Done! Great camera work, story telling editing too!
If they gave a Nobel Prize for Craftsmanship this barn would easily win. Much respect for you on honoring your neighbors on a Sunday.
Great building Kris..! You can be proud of what you've done there. Good on ya...!!
I'm an oak framer and have enjoyed all the videos. For a moment i thought you were going to support the purlins with steel brackets. Corbels is the term for those blocks of wood you made. Which i was hoping was coming next. Very nice!
Fantastic build. Well executed.😀🇬🇧
Chris you are so talented and patient with this project. Your decision to erect it on your own schedule and time is always the best, sometimes mistakes are made when in a hurry. I do hope you can get the roof on before winter, would be a bad experience being so high and when wind comes up with the cold doesn't make for happy people. Great job, keep up the good work. Don't push yourself too hare as you need to rest doing that kind of "hard labor'.
It’s a great feeling when KZread tells me there’s a new video from you. Thanks, Kris.
Always looking forward to these videos 👍👍🇨🇦
Got to love our welsh weather! Fair play, that's going to be one hell of a barn! A thing of beauty!
Man, you sure do live in a beutiful area, i always knew it but you can really get a sense of it seeing the background in these barn videos
Love this guy's work..!! ...🖖
Another great video. You've got a Cathedral of Wood there, beautiful.
The van inside the barn (guessing it's Raf's) gives a good persective on how big this thing really is. Nice work guys, its a thing of beauty that's for sure!
👍👌👏 Extremely well done again and as always (video and work). I already love this sturdy barn building. With the green roof, it will blend in the landscape perfectly. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
More quality work. This barn is going to be fantastic!!! Get a tow hitch on the front of your landie. You’ll be amazed how much easier it to manoeuvre your trailer. Although, you nailed it anyway 😆 Stay safe up there 🫡
I rather appreciated this episode. Thanks Kris.
Nice job!! You sure do have some awesome friends who come to help you. You should have each one of them sign one of the beams in the building so you have a record of all who helped make your dream barn come true. Stay safe and well!
I just wanted to chime in here from North Carolina, United States. Kris you are awesome!!!
Your barn will be a masterpiece. The extra blocks for the purlins was a great idea. Be safe up so high. Till next time...
Haha! Loving your flex on your trailer reversing skills 😂 I have to say…I actually was impressed….having reversed a caravan many times, it’s bloody hard!!
Unreal, blessed, Hats off. Never seen the like, its alive.X) To take such principles like flatness and joinery fundamentals to such a level is truly awesome, I hope you write a book someday.
Need a tow ball on the front of the vehicles too. Then you can push the trailer when it’s more convenient.
Your project is fantastic as your work reversing that trailer in one go it's not for everyone 👍
honestly it's too beautiful for a barn, it should be a home
This one is my favorite project so far
Beautiful work Kris, well done.
Thanks Kris, you think you're building a barn in fact you're inspiring and tending the mental health of so many of us out here. It's stunning! You're creating a legacy, despite the Welsh weather.
Looks great 👍
Always enjoy your videos. The bard is looking so good. Excited to watch you work on the water wheel. Loads of hard work has gone into the barn like it was for the green house. Exciting to know how much closer you are to getting the roofing on. Great job Kris. And don't think we don't know Dot is in the back ground helping whenever she can. Great job too Dot.
I've spent about eight hours today watching your various videos, like this series and your hydroelectric series. I really appreciate your autistic attention to detail and how you over-explain everything. And then after you've over-explained it, you show us charts and graphs. Then you over-explain the charts and graphs. I love all of it. Don't stop. You're doing a thing I've always wanted to do. I am happy that you're able to do it.
BRILLIANT WORK.
Great effort, Kris and Raf and Sam and Dot!!! It is looking amazingly! Looking forward to your next installment! Thanks for your and your helpers work!
I'm really pleased to see you working in a generally safer way these days. A couple of years ago I cringed pretty often, but now you take a good sensible approach. Always a pleasure to watch you.
These videos are the highlight of my day. Love watching it come together over the months.
“Pretty good at reversing trailers” pretty good at bloody everything I’d say 😊
It's a piece of art, It's just too beautiful! I have always been amazed at everything you have built. I always look forward to your videos because I know that I am going to see something wonderful being created!
I was just gonna say you didn’t have to correct once when you were backing up. Nice job man. Love the build.
I love the "overengineering" bits you add like the blocks to keep the purlins from rolling over time. That ensures the barn is going to last forever. Besides being a great mate with a strong arm, Raf looks proper Witcher with his hair down!
Nice one, moving forward slowly and steadily
The barn looks amazing. God bless.
Great stuff. What a journey. I'd be moving in there when it's done. Looking forward to your water wheel coming into fruition ❤️

Will there be videos of the water wheel? I’ve seen teasers of it on this project but I’m so interested! The hydroelectric project is what brought me to this channel. But the all around philosophy and ethic is what made me stay ☝️
Not only intelligent but a damn good driver.
You must be extremely proud of yourself! And should be!
Looking great Kris and Dot I love it when a plan comes together well done to all involved
Building is so much like music - lots of math! yet lots of art & creativity. It’s been the opposite weather here in Louisiana- unbelievably hot and even dry. No rain. Never seen anything like it in the 22 years living here. Great work on your site. It’s always a good day when you put up a video!
A gold star for your reversing :)
Another super video thank you. 👍
Outstanding job. This will outlive you, Dot, and you're kiddos (when you decide to have them). :D
Fricking amazing, awesome job son. True craftsmanship at it’s finest. You are really mastering an awesome tradecraft. Something you can admire for the rest of your life. It is going to look absolutely beautiful when finished.
Kris you are an inspiration.
_PHENOMENAL_ ! _Real_ skilz to pay the bilz.
Your skills and abilities are indicative of wisdom through experience...I am impressed again and again as I watch your progress. You are an accomplished architect and a hands on builder. I truly admire your perseverance.
Looking good hopefully the weather will give you a chance to push on with the project
great job missed you ..

Kris, the barn is looking absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see it finished. It's gonna look spectacular.
Morning Kris and Dot x ill be soon starting out on my adventure soon and your videos are an inspiration . Thank you. See you in Wales soon 👍

There's so many dimensions to the whole "project" it's incredibly rich in its content I think Kris could go back and cover any number of things again. Like how's the pond and wilding around there, how's the hobbit house doing, hows the structure of the workshops, what plans for the future house. Just so much brilliant stuff to follow. And such an innovator and all round good bloke too. Plus a cat!
Worth the wait! Its more of a guilty pleasure whenever a definite shape comes together...isn't it! Thanks for sharing this project with us!
That’s one hell of a Sound Structure You and the helpers must be proud of it👏
Looking very nice. Y'all take care.
When you are finished the barn, Kris, you ought to hang your lifting frames on a wall in the barn somewhere and, in 300 years time, people will say "these are the original frames used to erect this building".👍👍
Hey good morning my friend how you doing today hope you're having a wonderful day I like what you doing keep up the good work in say hi to the kitty for us
👌😎👍 super boulot .
brill mate
Get a battery multitool mate, i dont know how i ever lived without it.
Hello Chris. Love your videos. Just an idea. I took down a more than 100 year old oak barn in France 50 year ago, and was impressed by their way of doing those blocks you put up. Their strength was a 2 cm deep slanting notch ( from 0 to 2 cm the length of the block), nesting the bottom nose of the block, and cut into the beam they are fixed on. They were nailed with a wooden peg that had no work to do, just holding the block from movement side to side. I am concerned about those screws you hold them with. They could maybe split the blocks in time? You are doing inspirational work. Thanks for sharing it with us. All the best.
The return of Raf!
I'm not an expert on period building, but that looks very Anglo Saxon. The shot of it on the hill is amazing. It's not just a building. It's a work of art.
