  30:42 The head on Philosophia's sheild is pretty clearly the Aegis... the protective amulet made from Medusa's head, worn by Athena. It, like the Spear and Armor she is wearing connects Philosophia directly to Athena, goddess of Wisdom. How does the author get hydra out of that?

  The author is Christina Dorsini. She is the new owner of Il Meneghello and from what I understand is the daughter of the late Mastero’s partner who also has passed away. She was trained as an art historian apparently. But I have found her takes on art history to be slightly unconventional. I can’t speak to her qualifications or credibility. I have also left the tarot world a few years ago and I am not up to date with whether there has been any revisions to this text. The tarot world is rive with unfounded theories since there really isn’t any established peer reviewed procedures and no serious academia would want to touch the topic of tarot. So a lot of texts should be considered personal musings and not canon. Please do let me know if you find anything. Thank you for watching and commenting.

  @@NobodyHere Yeah, it's actually pretty frustrating when more actual scholarship seems to have gone into the creation of some of these decks and drawings than modern "scholars" are putting into the "explanation" of them. And more often than not there are these convoluted around the world explanations instead of what is just obviously right in the image. I can see why you got out of it!

  @@patreekotime4578 Sir Michael Dummet written some books about tarot that isnworth reading. There is also a blogspot page called Pre-Gebelin Tarot History you should check out. As a rule, check out historians, philosophers, or cultural scientists such as anthropologists or sociologists who wrote about tarot. Such as “The Cultural History of Tarot” by Farley that’s available for free as a PDF and the author herself recommended. And avoid authors with more metaphysical underpinnings. All the best.

  @@NobodyHere The problem seems to be on both sides of the divide as far as I can tell. The esoterists made up a bunch of bunkiss about Egyptian origins at a time when it was convenient to pass off any and all esoteria as Egyptian because heiroglyphs hadn't been translated yet. And on the other side of the isle we have this bizarre overcorrection saying that there was nothing remotely spiritually symbolic in the tarot before them. Which is strange because here we have a series of images appearing in the late medieval era covered in pretty obviously spiritually significant symbols. Had they been anything else other than playing cards the same historians would be having a feild day discussing the significance of these images and what they reflect about the ways these cultures viewed themselves and the ideas present in the cards. Or we see examples of narratives invented to support a thesis that are based on a few cards and don't seem to be fully supported by the bulk of the images themselves. Especially attempts to identify the artists who created certain decks are frought with problems resulting from the fact that tarot historians never seem to be artists or art historians themselves. A common trope I've seen is the "this deck contains a hat (or other common item) like the one in this painting, therefore this must be the same artist". A hat style may link a painting and a deck of cards to the same region and rough time period... or it may not at all. One would have to do a deep and thorough study of late medieval fashion (or in the cases of Sola Busca and E-Series: late-medieval armory) to actually make those connections... but even then... artists have created stylistic anachronisms in their work to make things appear older for centuries, so all you may discover is the period and place the artist wanted us to THINK the designs are from! And that is made more confusing by the general trend from both sides to try to date everything as early as possible for "tarot street cred" that sometimes feels just as ridiculous as the Egyptian sorcery stories. The deeper I dig, the more frustrated I am with much of the scholarship, especially on artwork with uncertain dating and arthorship. Even decks like Sola Busca that seem to have been nailed down to a specific date... can we be certain that the date on the cards refers to when they were published and isn't just in rememberance of an important historic date? The vast majority of 9/11 "memorabilia" merchandise was created after 2001, and yet that year is clearly visible and there are symbols on it that clearly relate to the events of that year. I just have serious misgivings about the methodology and assumptions and starting theses of a great deal of the research I'm reading.

To answer your question: I go by aesthetic only. I love antiques and crafts and I am fascinated by religions so this is a perfect combo. The other aspects of it is up to us to imbued the object with. That is too personal for me to have others’ attached to the items although I don’t mind it 😇

  The engraver Francois Isnard was active in Strasbourg c.1715-1760 [he died in 1765]. J. B. Benois was active between c1760s - 1780s, he was a witness to the engraver Isnard's will made in 1764. So this deck would date from between c. mid 1760s - to early 1780s. J. B. Benois succeeded his father David Benoist [whom Isnard probably made the woodblocks for], Jean Baptiste Benois was succeeded by the widow Benois & Son c1780s-1790s. J. Benoist from c1790s to c1820. Gebelin's description of the tarot is of the TdM type, Mellet however clearly describes an Isnard-based TdB which was published at his time by either J. B. Benois or the Widow Benois & Son, Carey & possibly Sarramond.

  This video was done years ago and the way I was set up, it was not practical to do as you requested due to lighting effects. It is also easier to show texture of paper in ways many others aren’t able to do when you do it at an angle. I am not entertaining requests and am considering deleting all my tarot videos. I spend a few years making them. But they are increasingly more trouble for me than they are worth.

  Yes. I owe this knowledge to Louise whose channel is no longer active. She was the first one I saw pointing this out and making this comparison. The last time I heard she met someone. I thought of her often and hope she is finding happiness 😁 Anyways the creator of Marshmallow has since explicitly stated that they were inspired by these older models. I think for the same reason they probably have stopped printing them? I can't remember. I have not been around in a bit and I am beginning to forget things.

  Non capisco come possiate definire fantastica la qualità della carta di AGM Urania dopo aver provato la fantastica consistenza di us games. Sono carte troppo sottili, che dopo pochissimo tendono ad imbarcarsi e a cambiare forma a tutto il mazzo. Altra nota negativa sono i colori, il blu l'hanno quasi eliminato dalla palette preferendo il giallo anche per i visi dei personaggi... Bocciatissimo

  Thin isn’t always bad. AGM Urania’s cardstock is thin BUT DENSE. Thin is good when dense because it means it SHUFFLES easier, and better, WITHOUT compromising the integrity of the cards because the CORE is strong. Warping or bending of cards HAPPENS TO EVERY CARDSTOCK IF YOU PUT THE CARDS IN CHANGING HUMIDITY AND TEMPERATURE LEVELS. This is the law of physics. Colour calibration be it yellow or blue or whatever is a matter of PERSONAL PREFERENCE. US Games’ edition of their RWS were PRINTED BY AGM until the 1970s. So if you love those US Games branded ones THEY ARE MADE BY AGM. US Games’ own printing is the start of the UGLY version of the RWS and started its reputation as the ugliest tarot deck known to humanity.

  @@NobodyHere I watched this video a month ago. That evening I searched all of the places I know of to search for used & rare books and found no copies for sale at any of them. I have want lists at some of these places so I added this book. When I got up the very next morning, my want list had turned up a copy of the book that had been posted late the previous evening and a week later I had the book!!

  This is such a wonderfully beautiful deck. I'm of mixed race (Eurasian) but my Taiwanese mother -- who traveled extensively over South and East Asia -- had the stronger influence over the family. There are so many things I recognize in this deck: the incense in the rice (which I still do), the colourful, earthy prints (which adorn our walls and made up our clothes), the bamboo tray from the Justice card (which we still use daily)... even the people I recognize in a way I have not in any other deck (or in most other media). I feel like I know those people, they could be my family. It's like my senses come alive when looking at the images, like the feel of South Asian humidity. Oh and the smells! The smell of monsoon season, of rice's steam, of incense, of batik fabrics! I could go on and on... Thank you for this journey through this tarot, it has been truly evocative. Given how limited edition this deck is, I doubt I will ever be able to find a copy for myself so I'm sure I will be returning to this video again to revisit a land which is so far away from me now (geographically, although -- clearly -- not too far from my heart!). I hope you are doing very well, with peace and contentedness.

  As far as I know, US Games Systems have bullied the market into withdrawing any English version of this form the market. They claim that this facsimile is “too close” to their 1971 copyrighted images of Palema Colman Smith which in fact aren’t the same as these images which were reproduced from what is known as “Pam A”. USG’s images have been altered, and then copyrighted. But due to their deep pockets, all they need to do os drag this in court for as long as possible to financially exhaust smaller companies. They don’t even have to win the case. So most smaller companies prefer not to fight USG. And they say capitalism is dead. Nothing wrong with capitalism itself. Anyway, try smaller European based eBay sellers. You might find some I am not sure. Good luck! PS: I am going to try to liquidate the rest of my tarot collection in a few years which will include a copy of this.   I carry a virgin mother double sided medallion everyday in my pocket. Made out silver. I have a very strong connection to it. I sleep with it under my pillow. Ever since the day i have retrieved it an took owner ship, i have had no nightmares or bad dreams. Couple days ago, i started to look for my first rosary. I looked on ebay an etsy. But have not found the RIGHT one yet. I want the material to be made out of silver. What is a correct rosary to own?. Does it have to have Jesus an mary on it ?. Please explain. I am catholic. But i did not go through the pathway like a devoted catholic would have.

  Hello. I grew up Catholic. But my theology is perhaps more Protestant. Not sure. My spiritual heritage is eclectic, and my social outlook is liberal. So. In keeping with those values and my own belief, I will say that there IS NO RIGHT ROSARY to have. They are only tools. Although I know some of my Catholic family members tend to treat time like amulets and magical items. WHAT WORKS for you is the right one. I do not like the Jesus Corpus on the cross, but it can't be avoided since that is the norm. My reason? He has risen, has he not? That is the focus of the faith, is it not? I will not forget the pain, the sacrifice, I don't need the body hanging there in perpetuity. It is more powerful for me to see an empty cross. What material? Whichever is nice to hold for me, in the eyes and in the hands. Whatever is easier to maintain. Whatever is longer lasting. More robust. You may have a different requirement depending on how you use them. I do not carry them around for example. But it sounds like you do. Do you need Mary? Again, up to you. As mentioned my theology is not very Catholic, so I am not very Mary centred. The rosary is often dedicated to her, so often she is at the centre of the Rosary. But although I do the traditional Hail Mary 10 times before the 1 Our Father, I prefer not to have her either, perhaps other things like the Sacred Heart in the middle, or other reminders. I am planning on talking more about the rosaries, but I have yet to decide if I am going to do so here, or on my other channel called Two Mice on My Bookshelf. Thanks for asking and for watching.

  None 😁 But if you are familiar with the Rider Waite Smith, the minors are pretty much the same. The major arcana is a bit different. But personally I think this is one of those best used WITHOUT any guide telling you what any of these might mean.
