Oswald Wirth Tarot (Editions Aquilonia, France, 2019)

JULY 2020 -- This is the first, of a long line of esoteric tarot in the western esoteric tradition. Here you can see a facsimile of the original two tarot decks from 1926 and 1889, and the original book by Oswald Wirth. There are a lot of reproduction of this set out there. This set is one of the best by far I my personal opinion. (Mainly for the reproduction quality and the inclusion of the book, and how the whole package has been presented). Produced in France, based on original museum copies in Belgium. This edition is priced at EUR 186 plus shipping at the time of this video. It was EUR 144 plus shipping during its pre-order in 2018 (?).

"Joseph Paul Oswald Wirth (1860, Brienz, Canton of Bern - 1943) was a Swiss occultist, artist and author. He studied esotericism and symbolism with Stanislas de Guaita and in 1889 he created, under the guidance of de Guaita, a cartomantic Tarot consisting only of the twenty-two major arcana. Known as the "Arcanes du Tarot kabbalistique", it followed the designs of the Tarot de Marseille closely but introduced several alterations, incorporating extant occult symbolism into the cards.[1] The Wirth/de Guaita deck is significant in the history of the occult tarot for being the first in a long line of occult, cartomantic, and initiatory decks." (Wikipedia)
The last time I checked, this video is the only English language video of this facsimile edition on KZread. My main enjoyment of facsimile editions of older tarot like this, esoteric or otherwise, is for its historical reasons. Esoteric tarot per se has not been my main interest of late. (If the English I read out loud is a bit awkward, it is probably because it was translated directly from French in a certain way. Or, that I am crap at reading out loud without a rehearsal).
Honestly, it has been about a year since I acquired this set and my information about this exclusively French edition relies heavily on a conversation(s) I had in English through a Facebook account which I have long since deleted. So my memory of the details of this reproduction is a bit vague.
As for the Golden Numbers, I recall a conversation with someone about the triangle which formed once the box is opened. But, lacking in the ability to understand French, my info was second or third hand. It could very well the Golden Ratio that they were talking about, and not at all Pythagoras! Help a gal out here and comment down below if you speak, read, and write French, and / or able to to let me know about what golden numbers they were talking about and if my memory of the triangle of the case is correct...! (I could just do the math, but I can not be bothered...)
Here is their explanation
www.aquilonia.fr/2019/09/01/l...
Also, I suspect they have for sale an exact replica of how the book and cards were originally published in 1927. In this version, if I understand correctly, the cards were printed on a fold out paper inserted into the book. So they are not in the form of cards.

The loose page in the book are "Some lost words now recovered" translated roughly and in the blog accessible through the link there are pictures explaining the box which according to it is the most expensive thing to produce in the set (more than 3 times the cost of the book)!!! The theorem is represented by the triangle formed when used to display the decks and the Golden number is hidden in the proportions of the portfolio when closed (again, there's pictures on the link) www.aquilonia.fr/2019/09/01/les-secrets-du-portfolio/ Very interesting set

Thank you! I will have to read that again I think! (I have the Godfather in the background being very noisy!). Yes, very interesting! Thanks for that link!! -- PS: That explains the huge price discrepancy between the book facsimile without the cards, and the set which I have here.....!!!! (EUR 39 vs EUR 144 in 2019 and EUR 186 in 2020)

Foolish Fish Heh. Well now that you mentioned it 😅 I kept thinking how do I ensure its protection and avoid accidental destruction by its next custodian if I peel them off. They are such eye sores. Perhaps stick them on a piece of paper and stash that in the box.... Nice to see you here Mr Fish 🐠

@@NobodyHere That was my first thought. But you have to be sure that they are high enough quality to peel off without damaging the box. A piece of paper that you can store in the box and slide in the opening when/if you pass it on was actually exactly what I had in mind! :) You could even write your own explanatory note on the paper under the stickers, showing where they were originally placed...

Foolish Fish Yes that was my thought too. Surely if they had intended for these to peel then it should be made with adhesive which is peel-able. This reminds me that leaving one of those too long might actually be harmful since such adhesive could hardened and by then, more harmful when peeled....... Thanks for the reminder!

@@shelbygivens1648 Sadly, collecting special interest objects does require money. Same can be said about any special interest hobbies really. As long as one can afford a hobby I can highly recommend having one. Fortunately for collectors, in any field, there are always opportunities to recoup some costs. Although I would highly suggest NOT to consider collecting as a form of "investment". Because it is not. Speaking of the collection I have shared here, I actually wanted to delete them all as I have moved on to other hobbies, but I was asked not to. Thanks for watching and asking the question!
