    The law is not going to do anything about this other than give you a police report and tell you to file it with your insurance and then they are done! I don’t know if this thing works but there’s ways to prevent this from happening but it will require you to make some hard decisions and decide how far you want to take it

    Hi, good information. I have a prius 3 gen 2015 since new, cat never stolen, never replaced and it doesn't have those coolant lines at all. Just resonator, cat 1 an 2 and o2 sensor. Why?

    Doesn’t the cat do cat things and keep the cars ecu happy? Whether it has a sticker on it or not?? I get you are trying to get business for your shop but the eBay cat will work it’s a direct replacement just because you cross state lines the car doesn’t stop working.

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertechАй бұрын

    You’re missing the point. This is a video that applies to California and the other states that have adopted our rules. Just because a cat solves what the ECU is looking for doesn’t mean it has the correct certification to pass a visual test. Furthermore, the reason that the eBay and cheaper parts are less money is because they have less precious metal in them, they may keep the light off initially, but they will fall off their conversion rate much faster and will need to be replaced a lot sooner.

    Yes. And a new downstream sensor will not fix it. LEV cats don’t have the same conversion rate and the car’s evaluation knows this.

    Any system that stops the 'Bad Guys' is a worthy notion. Sad that the vehicle manufacturers couldn't figure that out, but they just sell cars. I have a 5th gen Camaro SS with and without the factory NPP exhaust option. I’ve had friends do the “fuse pull” method, which leaves the valve open full time; which is good, if you want the exhaust as loud as possible all the time. However, I also thought the factory vacuum actuated system was too quiet for my taste. I ended up getting a ‘Mild 2 Wild’ electronic control system wired up, so that I could open the valves with a controller.

    Just weld some straight pipe in place of catalytic converter. Since Police couldn't care less about the issue, why should we. What's more, the main catalytic converters are in place. Plus on hybrid car emissions can not be checked, so don't worry to much about it.

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertech4 ай бұрын

    It’s not that the police don’t care, it’s that they don’t have any teeth. We need to stop blaming law enforcement on these problems and start blaming the law makers. As far as welding a pipe in place of the cat, you may live in a state that doesn’t require it, but California does. And California has more registered cars than any other state, so statistically your idea is not only illegal, it doesn’t work for most owners.

    Is there any way to fit a gen 2 cat on a gen 3 prius?

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertech4 ай бұрын

    Yes, but it would take some fabrication and it wouldn’t be legal in any state that abides by the CARB rules. You’d have to bypass the coolant exchange and build pipes that made up the connection difference to the cats.

Even with the resonator back in its very loud, but bearable. I only have front resonators deleted now. My muffler guy said the centre resonator is actually a muffler that allows some mixing of gasses, so works a little like an x/h pipe.

    What happens when the after market cat goes bad. They are now banned in California so is there still a warranty?

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertech5 ай бұрын

    One of the problems with using this cat on a SULEV application is there technically never was a warranty to start with. The manufacturers of these parts did not design them to meet the correction value needed for SULEV, the state made the decision to make the parts legal for the provisional period. We informed our customer of this risk.

    Toyota should change the damn design or put some plates underneath

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertech5 ай бұрын

    Toyota (or any other manufacturer) had no idea this was going to be a thing. And even if they did, why should it be their responsibility? The cars don’t come with wheel locks or break resistant glass for other forms of theft, why should they have something for the car underneath? I’m not looking to be argumentative just pointing out that automotive manufacturers can’t plan for what thieves are going to do in the future. Your frustration should be directed at the government that gives or doesn’t give law enforcement the teeth to deal with it.

    The higher price comes with the use of a single word in the sentence that comes before or after describing whatever the item might be, and that word is “”Corvette””. although I do suspect a slight premium is added to cover the cost of all the free units that they flood the KZread influencers with to put a positive spin on their products.

  • @mufflertech
    @mufflertech5 ай бұрын

    Kevin thanks for your input! I’m afraid I have to challenge your position here. The word “Corvette” has nothing to do with price rather its the low production numbers and the complexity of the needed product to fit a mid engined sports car. Products for front engined Corvette’s were dramatically cheaper as they weren’t nearly as complicated to design which made them more accessible which allowed higher production which lowered the cost even more. Chevy has made a real mid engined contender in the sports car market, this unfortunately creates exhaust systems and other components that have a higher price tag. Thanks for watching!
