Cat theft is epidemic all over. In a prior video I saw you had a Mini up. What protection system would you say would be good for hybrid versions of them? CatArmor is Prius only. There was some Casey Honda armor mentioned in a group- but can't find. You did a Catstrap install....any follow up and what would you suggest they would work best on?

You’re correct that car theft is up and it’s a global movement. Fortunately not all cars are targeted. We have never had a Mini in for a stolen cat, best thing you can do to protect yourself on the cars that aren’t common enough for companies to develop products for is to maintain a low deductible on your comprehension insurance.

Kia sorento --- just had my CC attempted to be stolen. 3 separate cuts but they still couldn't get it. one cut high up & one on each side of CC. Used a sawsall but still were unsuccessful. had to have the 3 cuts welded shut. 78 bucks out of pocket. not bad but I'm one of the lucky ones. probably got spooked and took off. I'm sure they must have been making a lot of racket. thanks for video. sorento is a bit harder to get to than what you showed with the Sportage.

Just had my 90s dodge ram cat stolen in Portland OR. Hopefully it won't be an expensive fix.

You were so right. My cat was stolen while at work today in a very public place. I drive a kia sportage, the guy I was talking to with my insurance mentioned his buddy also drives a kia sportage that got its cat stolen recently. those types of cars tend to be highly targeted right now.

Thanks for this. Is there an alarm one can attach to the CC? Maybe a booby trap that shoots pepper spray in their eyes? What do you think of the Miller CAT shield? I’m considering buying a new Kia Niro but this is giving me pause.

Alarms in our experience don’t work. To be sensitive enough to work they false all the time. We use Miller shields all the time.

We have never seen one of those with a stolen part.

Stolen twice in 6 weeks on my Hyundai in my underground garage. Any suggestions on shields or cages to add as a preventative measure?

Even though these are starting to be more prevalent, there isn't a high enough demand for company's to produce a specific product yet. The best solution that we do in house is roll bar tubing welded to all the surrounding pipes.

I literally just had my catalytic converter stolen off my 2006 Kia Sportage EX V6 ! Help please! I have insurance to cover the repair but I don’t want this to happen again! Can a Cat Strap Cat Eye or alarm be worth it? Or a shield for my catalytic converter when it’s replaced, is that an option?

That’s cool. How do we prevent it from happening? My friend just got hers taken and she’s trying to figure out how to prevent it. The universal cat protector didn’t fit her car

Great. I have a Tucson. My son had his car (Mazda 3) hit this week. But I was told he had a resonator and not a CC. So they didn't know what they were doing I guess. I am keeping my Hyundai Tucson in the garage at all times.

What make and model CAT shield is best suited for a 2022 Hyundai venue

There isn’t a specific solution for your vehicle. You can try universal stuff like the cat strap.

We use custom bend and weld roll bar to the surrounding pipes to make it more difficult to cut.

QUESTION: I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. The MFers got my CC 12/2/21 in the parking lot of my apartment building in a large NW suburb of Atlanta. My mechanic says not to worry about a second hit because they don't want an after-market part, just originals, and know how to tell the difference. What do you think? Can they tell? Will they even take the time to figure that out when they're in a rush? The government needs to get into this one with harsh laws and penalties for pushers and those who buy them! It's comparable to the drug industry's organizational flowchart.

Your mechanic is correct. Most thieves will know. Think of it this way, a jewelry thief knows the difference between a Timex and a Rolex.

My girlfriend has had hers stolen twice in six months so I don’t think they care… Hyundai Tucson

Last night, our catalytic converter was stolen at my wife's job. She got off work around 9 P.M. Started our 2006 Hyundai Tucson SUV. Sounded like a loud race car. The Hyundai dealer said that it will be around $2,100 to replace. We're waiting for our insurance company to send an adjuster on Wednesday. Hopefully, we will only be out of our $1,000 deductible.

Yeah mine was a 2500 repair kia 2012 sportage..just paid 500$ deductible...

I guess I don’t fully understand your question. Do you mean how do you know if yours has been stolen? If so when you start your engine your car will be extremely loud. If you mean is it happening around you I would recommend calling your local law enforcement and asking what the reporting has been in your region.

What to do to prevent?? No protector for KIA this sucks!??

QUESTIONS: So, help me understand. It's not the pipe they want? The pipe blocks them from the part above it, and that's what they want? How can the materials used to make CCs be nearly the price or half the price of the car itself?? How do manufacturers even make a profit? How do the parts buyers then offer so little in comparison? Who ultimately buys these "precious metals?"

All great questions. No they don’t want the pipe. Kind of like the poaching of elephants, they don’t want the animal, just the tusks. Unfortunately they have to kill the animal to get them. The material used to make a catalytic converter that is the drive for theft is rhodium. It’s a commodity that has fluctuated to a high value recently and is under a global shortage. Manufacturing has risen in price on new cats at over 200%. They’re making a profit by raising their prices accordingly. I don’t understand your parts buyer question. The ultimate purchaser of the precious metals are catalytic converter manufacturers.

Yes, although we don’t see them as frequently as the crossover/SUV’s.

Minnesota here, unfortunately we got victimized twice already.. my gf's has 2009 Kia Sportage... first one 6 weeks ago .. got new one 700 dollars get it fix.. 400 catalytic rest labor .. after that decided to put full coverage on her insurance then scheduled for a car alarm... unfortunately the shop we made an appointment with is booked and we have to wait until March27th ! The 2nd happened again just this past weekend.. we don't know if it was friday/sat or sun nite.. but as she turned on it was loud again! Fortunately this time having full coverage .. her insurance will pay for it~ :) .... Perhaps I have to do a little more research/inquire regards of a little more security on her car aside waiting for the appointment installing alarm... making a cage for it? I see they're selling Cat Shields for them... but just certain cars only?

@@AL-vw7kx sorry for the late reply. Find a shop that can weld roll bar around the cat. Roll bar is extra thick pipe that is very difficult to cut through.

YES! a 2007 Sportage was hit in a nearby neighboorhood and my 2006 Sportage just had it cut out on Friday night. >:/ That one on the hoist in his video is a newer one so it seems like old and new ones being targeted. :(

Yes I have a Kia Sportage 2010.. mine has been stolen twice within an year...ps I am form the Netherlands. But my guess is that they work the same everywhere. Waiting time for a new cat is around 5 weeks here now..

really? You can't explain or show what you are doing to prevent thefts? If you want update they are using battery powered pipe cutters here in fl. no respect for "chain cutters" so what type of plate are you selling? what type of protection?

The police or the City knows who recycle cats. If its a cut cat, it is stolen.

As an exhaust shop we cut bad cats out all the time to replace them. A "cut" cat does not necessarily make it stolen.
