    Let me remind folks at home, Many vehicles "early" in their lives had simple systems. Many cars had keys that could open similar make vehicles and start them. It isn't the manufacturers responsibility. We already have laws in many states that punish the owner for "leaving the keys in the ignition". Instead of blaming manufacturers blame society. Many people are raised to understand "if it isn't yours DON'T MESS WITH IT"

    We'd have 5th and 6th Gen reactors by now if radicals and Hollywood hadn't convinced everyone that nuclear is dangerous. Even the 4th Gen reactors we have now are fundamentally safe.. Not even a moronic Soviet nuclear technician could screw it up. But the upfront costs are high to build them so governors, etc were fine with letting nuclear go by the wayside. They save a lot over time but spending many billions all at once doesn't appeal to politicians who will be out of office before they are completed.

    @@kriswingert1662 Right...! It's still being developed, I realize that both UK, US, and other countries are attempting to maintain a fusion reaction. So far, nobody (to my knowledge has been able to keep one going for an extended period of time. Fusion would reduce nuclear waste and supply the power an industrial country needs, which I don't think wind turbines or solar can ever keep up with. I'm not afraid of nuclear power...if reactors are built and operated in a safe manner , which thanks to the US's safety standards, I'm OK with. Japan built Fukushima way to close to the ocean on a fault line. Not too smart. Russia hasn't really had a stellar safety record either. They seem to cut corners when it comes to that. But if we developed fusion in this country, I think it could be a viable source of energy. There is a certain group of scientists who claim we recovered an alien spacecraft from Roswell & reverse-engineered it so it could also produce power, plus space travel. This same group thinks it's our industro-military complex that fears the development of such technology for financial and political reasons.

At least here in Canada, only the base models came with a manual key to open the doors / start the vehicle. As a former KIA Salesman, most of those are fleet sales. Very few people actually purchased a bare bones vehicle, most clients purchased mid trim level or higher and would consider a used high trim vehicles over a base model with nothing (not even air conditioning).

    St Louis just has a lot of car thieves. I wonder if it's just another one of those Democrat run cities that has no bail so that they can steal, get caught and be out on the street to steal again in 8-12 hours. Democrat policies are setting up society to collapse. I don't know about you but I want criminals to suffer some sort of penalties when they commit crimes. Saw a video that said Canadian KIA & Hyundai cars were “required” to have immobolizer built in, so they don’t have this easy theft problem. Think it was government mandated but I could be wrong. so who is to blame here, US auto requirements, or KI-yundai for intentionally not including the immobilizers probably as a cost saver? seems like the latter.

  • @HeatherHolt

    @HeatherHolt

    Yeah it’s kinda both. I mean without the requirements, these companies will try and get away with murder. Like in popular baby foods like gerber, there are tons of heavy metals that are scientifically proven to cause lower iq, and there’s no requirement for the companies to let the customer know on the label about the metals or any “safe” amount allowance standards for baby food. Thankfully there are companies now who make sure there aren’t bad levels in their foods but the major cheapest brands don’t. There will be changes in the US soon that will require a label but what’s sad is, parents who need help paying for baby food (WIC program) are given a certain amount of free baby food jars each month but the ones they’re allowed to get are the ones that are the WORST offenders. Companies would literally get away with murder if they could and it was profitable to them.

Both kia and hyundai have this issue and most of their cars, especially the lighter colors suffer for it. Wife and I bought our teenage son a brand new Elantra, as a thank you for earning a full ride scholarship, and right after the 3 year warranty was up, the paint started blowing off on his trips back from college to see us. Hi there Scotty, you and my dad would have got along great because he was an old time mechanic, that built parts because they didn't make them anymore for his customers cars. He was a no nonsense type of a person and said what was on his mind straight, didn't take the micky out of his customers by charging sky high amounts, but he was a REAL mechanic, the kind that like old fashioned cars that are all metal and real and not the circuit boards that are in modern cars. You really cheer me up just because you go off on the same things that he would. Have you had the customer in that says they have a noise or a squeak but doesn't know where it is or the actual sound because when he gets to it, the car is behaving it's self? Dad had a few that would drive him crazy with their over active imagination. My car is 14 1/2 years old Honda Civic Hybrid and the only thing that is wrong with it is that it is too low getting for me getting in and out off, but i''ll keep going until i can't get out of it anymore. Have a good day flower, from Norah, Scotland

    Maybe the politicians in St Louis should start incarcerating car thieves instead of decriminalizing their sociopathic behaviors.

    This is one of the few times I've ever disagreed with you Scotty. People who steal cars need to be held accountable. It's not the manufacturer's fault a select few bad people want to steal cars

    I trust and respect Scotty so much, he's one of the few if not the only person who could make me reconsider my opinion that nuclear power is just too dangerous. I'm still scared of nuclear power but Scotty is such a sensible, well educated person that I can't ignore his views and must learn more about the benefits v risks of nuclear power. Thanks Scotty, you're a great teacher, and very entertaining too.

    Hey Scotty I have an odd question. I own a semi and found out the steering column is nowhere in the country. Has an extendable bottom shaft and bottom U joint is permanent. Does anyone know where to get something like that rebuild Incase bottom U joint locks up. You would have to basically cut the shaft and reweld.

    I agree Scotty 100%, it should be a total recall on Hyundai and Kia including Genesis without immobilizers. Especially the fact that they were sold as key fob with an alarm giving people the false impression that their vehicles are theft resistant. But in reality they're one of the easiest to steal with nothing more than a USB cord. Major corporations need to learn their lesson and stop ripping people off. It really pisses me off that Hyundai is trying to actually profit from their mistake by wanting to charge their customers to fix the negligence of not having immobilizer which Hyundai has already admitted that it'll cost a minimum of $200 in labor alone they could even wind up costing as much as $1,000 or more. Which is basically adding a more advanced alarm system and locking mechanism within the steering wheel which technically isn't really even an immobilizer. So they don't even have a real solution figured out yet and they want to charge the customers for their manufactures negligence starting October 1st. At least models from 2015 to 2021. In fact I don't know of any other car manufacturer that does not automatically include immobilizers in the key. Like you said even your 2007 has it. I'm afraid what's coming next is everyone's insurance going up that owns a Hyundai Kia or Genesis that have theft included in their insurance policy. US should make sale of them illegal until Hyundai and Kia agreed to put them all on recall at least from the year 2015 to 2021. Cuz supposedly the 22s and up have immobilizers automatically built-in.

    Yeah, it would be much better if they put in their cars everything Toyota and Honda do. Problem is that the cost of the car would also match the others, I bet you wouldn't buy a Hyundai if the price was similar to a Toyota...
