I just wanted to thank you & the entire crew there at Muffler Tech. You repaired an attempted theft of a 2007 Honda Accord CAT Converter this last Monday. You also applied the anti-theft option of roll-bar additions to the exhaust & also applied the anti-theft roll-bar additions to a 2007 Honda Civic SI. Weld rebar to the system along all possible cut points. It's not pretty but it's effective

Referees are presently authorized to issue exemptions to aftermarket on SULEV engine families while Honda struggles to keep up with the demand. Keep up the good work, the public needs to know how rampant this problem is. With Rhodium prices at bitcoin-like levels, this isn't gong away anytime soon

Thanks for the content, my wife's '03 Acura TL was hit this weekend. We are in AZ and lucky enough it's not SULEV EFN 3HNX03.2AYC. Any comments on good aftermarket converters for the Acura TL '03 I know MF has OEM and HM they state high mileage cars should get the OEM to avoid throwing CEL?

I have a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe, Group #5HNXV02.4VBP, which is covered by a current executive order. However, when I looked up one of the listed Cats, it said that they could not send them to California. Does that order only apply to states other than CA?

Mine was stolen last night..... If the county is no smog can I just straight pipe it? They took the front 90° with two bolts so I need that and some flex pipe and clamp it on and live with the o2 sensor on? Any recommendations on a kit or parts? Its an 03 non selv

With no smog required you could "straight pipe" it as you'll never have a problem getting your new registration. There are some inherent issues with this however. First of all you will always have a check engine light on. Some will say no big deal I know why it's on. Unfortunately it will always be on and you won't know if any other problems arise, that light monitors a lot of other systems. Secondly your car will stink. The catalytic converter cuts down on an enormous amount of emissions, namely Hydrocarbons which can have a heavy odor. Third your hurting the environment. And lastly, if you ever go to sell the car it will likely need to be smogged to transfer the title depending on where the buyer lives.

I have a honda civic 2017. Whats your best suggestion on cat protection?

Your car has the cat in the exhaust manifold attached to the engine, nothing to worry about on that model.

Hello Sir, My cat was stolen, my liability didn't cover it, I can't afford a whole lot at all, so someone suggested a straightpipe, the police told me they didn't care if I did it, in deep south Mississippi, Its a cheap alternative for me. Also if I got an aftermarket, I'm scared it'll be stolen too, cops told me cat thefts are heavy, what are your thoughts on a straight pipe on a 2006 Honda Element?? Thank you

What if my car is in California, but registered in Alaska? Can I just weld in an aftermarket cat and replace the 02 sensor to get the light off?

You can’t legally operate a car in California for very long registered in a different state.

I got mine stolen, 05 Honda Element LX. 😩 Question I'm assuming that mine can be replace with aftermarket parts? What about getting it to pass smog test? A machanic said that after market Parts has a hard time passing smog test, do u agree?

Someone just stole my Honda Accord 2007 2.4 cc Catalytic converter couple days ago during rainy day. 😙 My question is if I my Honda had SULEV then I have to replace the stolen Cat to the dealer only ? 😙 Still kind of confused. 😙 Afraid won't pass the smog check ? 😙 Can I replace with OEM after market ? Last month I was quoted from a Honda Dealership $1.6k with a possible wait of 4 months for my 07 Honda Accord catalytic converter !?$% This month they wanted $2.5k with a possible wait of 5 months !?$%

I'm in Cali was told 2500 I assume that's a baseline my poor Honda Accord 06 with 250k miles that bad boy was going to 500k easy. I changed the oil last minute all the time and it never gave me problems

It can’t hurt but I would not count on it making a big difference. We still get the non SULEV cars in with stolen parts.

How about a Honda Civic 2022 ? Can someone steal my cat ?

We haven’t seen a Civic this new with a stolen part. Your main cat on this car is in the manifold and very difficult to get to.

Great question. By California rules if the “sticker is no longer available under the hood” than you are supposed to use the CARB list of cats for your year make and model and treat the car like it’s Federal. In theory this means you can use anything on the list that isn’t rescinded. Here’s the rub, if you’re vehicle is an SULEV you still have to use the part that is made or on the provisional list as an alternative for that certification.
